In my practical experience of working with diffusers and mixing in activated sludge the course bubble diffusers provided DO levels to 4-5 and provided better mixing and a lot less maintenance due to clogging that fine bubble diffusers sometimes experience. The location of the diffusers as well as the geometry of the tank are key elements of design to the design of the aeration tank.

I would say heterotrophs. I see your comment was 3 years ago; Was the question multiple choice, if so what were the choices? I’m working toward class 2 as well
