I ordered your new Book you mentioned above. Now I understand the concept of the pattern design. You use either double strand of the pattern yarn or thicker yarn than the background. Now I understand how the short slots work. When you open the sheds, it looks like two sheds. This video helped me understand where you put your "pick-up" tool to lift the pattern thread(s) needed.

Thank you so much for showing how to start right from the beginning, and explaining very clearly how to start weaving. I was getting desperate, not knowing how to secure the weaving end to my body!

Stoorstalka make the 9 pattern slot heddle. The curved shuttle is also available. They ship world wide but have a dedicated outlet in the USA. This is the web site. stoorstalka.com/

Wonderful tutorial, as ever. Could this be woven on a Sigga? It looks like it should be possible (guess which heddle I have at present!).

No I am afraid that it cannot be woven using a Sigga heddle. It can be woven on an inkle loom or a standard heddle. Look at my other new video kzread.info/dash/bejne/nW1-ysZxYNCoo7Q.html to see how the pattern is picked out using an inkle loom. happy weaving Susan J Foulkes

For purposes of weaving the 5, 7 and and nine pattern threads from your book, do you only need the sunna 5 kit or do you need other sizes as well?

The Sunna 9 heddle can be used for 5, 7 and 9 pattern threads. The Sunna 5 kit is ideal for children but can only be used for 5 pattern threads. Happy weaving Susan

If I purchase only oneSunna Heddle, which would be best for Sami Bands and 5,7 and 9 pattern thread bands?

Kathy Fennell hi Kathy. The 9 pattern slot Sunna heddle can be used for five, seven and nine pattern threads. It is an excellent way to start. Enjoy your weaving. Susan

@@durhamsilkweaver Thank you Susan. How do you know wide the band should be and then weave straight selvedges?

  • @laceandbits

@@kathyfennell5477 The threads will tell you how wide the band will be - the warps should all be touching so you only see the weft at the edges - she shows you this near the end at 8.07. The answer to your second question is to look at some of Susan's other videos where she shows the pinch and pull technique in more detail (here she's concentrating on the patterning so she only says it in passing) and then practice, practice, practice.

Can your pattern books be used with the ridged heddle loom? I have an AshFord Sample loom, and I was thinking I could use it to make some straps.

HI yes they can. However you need to ensure that the heddle is as far back on the loom as possible. If you are using an Ashford Knitters Loom, use a heddle which has the largest number of dents per inch. I have used a 12.5 heddle. Thread the heddle according to the diagram in the book. Wind the warp onto the back beam as you would normally do, using the heddle in the heddle slot. Keep the warp under a loose tension by tying it onto the front beam. When weaving, I find it easier not to use the heddle supports but to place the rigid heddle near the back of the loom so that it hangs freely on the warp threads. You need to have enough room to be able to move the heddle up and down freely. I prefer to use a narrower heddle and not use the heddle support on the loom. I hope that this helps. Enjoy your weaving. Susan J Foulkes
