I just want to thank you for your videos. I got started in leatherworking solely due to having seen your video on how you follow the pattern for the holster in 3:10 to Yuma. I knew my dad would love having that holster for his favorite gun. It was difficult, but my dad was in love with the end result and I was very proud of myself for finishing it. Since then I've made a handful of other things and am so glad I picked up the hobby. I think a lot of the credit goes to you for having uploaded these videos and showing how fun and rewarding leathercraft can be. Thanks so much for sharing ♡

Thank you for calling it a Cartridge, and not a bullet holder. lol so many people really don't know that the bullet is, it's only one part of the whole cartridge, it's one of those things that makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck when they say stuff like that. also great job, looks awesome, amazing work!!

Very interesting to watch you use some of the same techniques as weathering scale models. This piece turned out just great it's ready for a movie set.

Excellent tutorial. One slight point of disagreement. The edges of actually very worn out old leather become naturally very soft and almost burnished with actual usage even if they weren't originally. So I would suggest actually burnishing them a bit, maybe a classic "glicerine soap and piece of canvas" burnishing instead of using the wooden burnisher - just with no dye (despite the current fad of dying edges in darker tones or even black).

GREAT VIDEO! My only problem with this, is that no matter how much I want an aged holster rig (or jacket, or sheath, or axe hanger, or whatever), after putting all those hours into it and making it look awesome, custom, and nearly perfect, I can’t bear to do everything required to properly weather it and make it look fifty years old and well used…. It’s like the Fonz trying to admit he was “wa wa wa….. wa wa wa…. wrrrrRRrrrRRrrr…. wrrrRRrrrRRrr….. wa wa wRRrrrRRrrrrrrr…..” well, you understand…. 17:48 That is Master Sergeant Robert “Bob” Ross, United States Air Force, Retired….

I know a guy that took a new, beautiful cowboy rig and put it in a cement mixer with pea gravel, and let it run.......Looked like he wore it for 15 years as he conquered the West...

Where can I get a cutting mat this big ??

Have you ever thought of making larger patches with a resist that can be peeled off at some point and modifying the dye with a strong dose of red as your final topcoat? The sharp lines could mimic the accident that happened to the belt when it fell into runoff mine contaminated water. Also, have you considered diluting some of the bluing and using spatter details of that?

This belt is something I made up. Will Ghormely used to sell a cartridge belt pattern and the basic structure came from that IIRC. The weathering techniques developed from my attempts to recreate the work of the late, great Chuck Burrows from Wild Rose Trading Co.

Dries out leather? I'd say the opposite. I haven't experienced either of these effects. Do you mean saddle soap? People frequently repeat that anecdote.
