Weather Report-Teen Town
Музыка
...with Jaco Pastorius. If you want to see what is bass about, you ought to see this video. Sorry, I meant, you MUST see this video.
"Teen Town" is one of their most famous songs, and I think that this fame it reached is not in vain, because the quality of the whole group is magnificent.

The TV program wanted us to cut the performance a bit short, because before we played this tune, Manolo and I did a great Percussion solo...so there you go...But JP wanted to play longer I guess. Hahaha. 1976 it was recorded at the Midnight Concerts...

nice one alex .
The most amazing thing about this video is Zawinul doubling everything Jaco does while providing a harmony on the Rhodes. The man was amazing.
This stuff never gets old.
Jaco's performances never fail to bring tears to my eyes all the while I am grinning like an idiot. His playing never ever ceases to amaze me. No one will ever come close.....
I keep waiting for Miles to stroll on stage with that beautiful red horn and mute. ❤ great clip. 🙏🙏
Jaco and Joe rip - two of the very finest we will ever see! AWESOME!!
This was the song that got me into jazz
The whole tune is impeccable, but let's talk about that battery of percussion!!! Holy moly.
I could spend days listening to this... amazing...
Saw then live in my teens and I am now 51...fantastic...!!
its simply insane how fast he plays it and yet still has clarity in each flippin note! what a guy- my hero!!!
I cant belive that mainstream America was even exposed to this high of a quality of music on network tv. The 70's were the shit.
This is Pure magic it just won´t get any better than this.
Hearing this album changed my life. For the better.
I wish this in better quality because this is best version of the song. Jaco and the rhythm is just on it.
the energy is phenomenal!
Jaco is a legend !! one of the greatest!! incredible song i think all the bassist need to dig on Jaco Pastorius
well, not only one of their more famous songs, but also written by jaco... can't you tell? it's so AWESOME!
brings a smile to my face, pls bless me with your skill bass God!
I cant even play this song full speed yet and here Jaco is playing it faster than the recording with ease. How I envy his skills
This was THE first video I ever watched on KZread, and here I am watching again in 2012 :)
If you ever had the great experience to be at Weather Report concert, It was truly an eargasmic experience that you never wanted to end. We did'nt cheer because we were afraid we would miss something. Every note, rhythm, phrase was something you had to experience live. This is and was music at it's highest level.
the legend..........Jaco. That's incredible !!
You're absolutely right. It's really incredible how tight they are. The way Joe Zawinul doubles the bass line at times is so cool and the sound of his synth blends in really well. Not only that but this is all live!
Rest in peace Joe. Your music changed My life. Forever thankful. Rodrigo
dude...that smile that jaco gives while playing that line....that's the pinnacle of bad ass
Thank you Jaco and thank you Joe for all the amazing music. Rest in peace... And thank you Alex, Manolo and Wayne for still being out there kicking some serious arse.
People who make this kind of art are never really dead.
Joco was awesome. One of my most favorite base players ever. RIP brother.
Dear Alex, I hope you read this. You are one at the very top of my list of first influences of drummers. Your trademark is keeping the pocket tight while simultaneously inserting those funky bass drum riffs (triples, etc.); it's part of your genius in the world of modern drumming. That interplay you and Jaco particularly shared, when you'd accent certain notes he'd play, I appreciate so much. To me, it expressed the comraderie, mutual passion and synergy between you. As a drummer himself, it's apparent that Jaco dug your style very much, to want to record and play off of what you gave. Drums and the bass in and of themselves are very dynamic, powerful instruments based on their inherent natural properties. But your God-given swagger paired with Jaco's is spiritual harmony. You are one of the most underrated drummers out there, yet one of the most masterful. May God bless and keep you.

Thank you so much for your kind words my friend, they bring joy to my soul and its true every thing you're saying, I brought Jaco to the band and then he wanted me to play the drums, because we used to be room mates and jam all the time while in our room and any how the rest is history…I do not duel so much in what happened, but I do stay current not only on my playing but mainly giving the Glory to the one who gaved me the gift of music…GOD uses me all over the world sharing my gift and blessings lots of new musicians with the experience i had…still recording a lot of music. Blessings to you my brother in Christ.-aa

Alex Neciosup-Acuna Hi Alex, I'm a drummer, good friend of Manolo and i'd like to tell you how much your drumming is so unconventional and it's one of the reason if it is one of my favorite... The notes you play on songs like Havona, are just making the spaceship trip more intense, and no drummer could duplicate those notes, cause nobody or no drum school in the world teaches how to play this way. It's a blessing that you went from percussions to the drumkit to produce the best album in the music history to me : " Heavy Weather ". God bless you dear Alex !

Alex Neciosup-Acuna Dear Alex, so glad to receive your response. My apologies but I was only able to read it today. It's not common to have the kind of musical kinship with someone as you apparently did with Jaco. Although the two of you played different instruments, it's as if it were two people playing drums, given that Jaco's applications in his bass playing to me sounds at times like something I'd play on drums because I do at times play a part that a bass, a guitar, etc. would play in order to color a piece. I found the history you shared with Jaco quite interesting and think that Weather Report's experiences should be captured on the silver screen especially for the young people to see so that they come to know what fine gifts each of the group's members had been blessed with. One other thing, Alex, my friend, I happen to be Ms., no Mr. (smile). Peace and love.
0:16 ..he is happy!!

Looks like those masks from the Purge.
Amazing and Excellent. Weather Report at its Best. Hartley C.
Jaco is just out the box on this song. Hahahaha! A joy to listen to. Jaco was a pure soul who was all about the music. Wild. Just wild.
You were an integral part of this line-up. Thanks for being there and now taking this bow.
jaco's contributions are enormous, he is the only musician who's sound you can still hear pretty clearly on the radio, in the elevator, waiting rooms, on new age recods, in jazz, pop, funk... on a DAILY basis. There is no other like that... his bass sound and the way he played it was an part of what he did in music, his compositions and bandleadership , he'd just sing or play the parts to everyone, no musicpaper, no scores... he knew every part of every song for every musician in the big band)
I bought the Heavy Weather album (CD's hadn't been invented yet) in 1977. I was 15. It still sounds great 30 years later. It's a shame so much new music today is DISPOSABLE, like diapers or empty Gatorade bottles. Keep looking, young gun. There's a lot of great music back there. KZread is a big help, bringing back lost stuff I thought I'd never see again.
I love the effect that has on the tone color. They blend so well.
I am surprised, there is no comments. Dude thanks for this. I am in heaven..
He's not arrogant, he just loves to play. And that's why hes so good.
The man was nothing short of amazing.
Most definitely one of my favorite songs, by the best bass player ever.
i remember them opening for johnny winter back in the 70s. we all enjoyed that show alot
you can tell al these guys are either super happy because theyre so amazing or blazed out of their minds haha
The best version I have found yet, and probably the best I will find. amazing!
Jaco was a true master, to play this kind of stuff live with such a groove is simply virtuoso.
Take notes young people, you're witnessing greatness!! R.I.P. Jaco P.
Jaco Pastorius plays a sunburst Fender Precision Bass with the frets filed off (almost like a fretless bass) and that's partially how he got his awesome mellow bass sound. In this concert, he plays his bass through an Acoustic 360/361 amplifier that has an 18-inch folded horn speaker cabinet. This amp was one of the best ones around back in those days. A few years later, I used its successor, the Acoustic 371 system, which consisted of an Acoustic 370 amp with an Acoustic 301 speaker cabinet.
grande marco na historia do jazz fusion no mundo com este grande baixista e esta super banda dos anos 80
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this. I have been waiting since 1982 to see footage of Jaco performing, and this is the first time.
THE MASTER!!!!!!! No one will ever touch what he did for the instrument!
This is Jaco at his best. Absolutely awesome!!!
They tear it up !!! what a bass line !!!!
re: 'Mutron Bi-Phase' HAHAHAHA!!! I had one of those! I bought it at Manny's in NYC, summer of 1975. That gadget was EVERYWHERE in the 70's. Love Boat, Charlie's Angels, a LOT of fusion/jazz music, and every lame disco tune. It served me well until I unloaded it a few years ago.
Fantastic - love this tune.
What I would give to be at this gig. Thanks for poasting and God Bles!!
Jaco's performances never fail to bring tears to my eyes all the while I am grinning like an idiot. His playing never ever ceases to amaze me. No one will ever come close.....I would like to mention that Teentown was written about a local teen club that many bands including mine played at in the mid 60's. Jaco never actually played there. The club closed long before jaco even took up the bass.
The best guitar bass of the world. Jaco I love
R.I.P Jacos Pastorius!! You are the best base player who ever lived!!
this never gets old
Incredible!!! Great video! Jaco....wow!
Come on, nobody can say this ain't groovy! When the bassline kicked in... I was blown away. Funk FTW!!!
Thank you for posting this great video! Very enjoyable!
Nice to see Jaco smile all along...
this was back in my time loved weather report!! ty for posting
for all you young lads, the acoustic 360 consisted of a preamplifier head connected to one or more powered cabs... each cab was a folded bass horn design with a single 18 inch driver, which was actually pointed backwards inside the cab... the blue band covers the back of the speaker, while the black grids are the mouths of the horn
jaco, joe, wayne you guys make me cry. always the most brilliant ever.
AMAZING. JACO LIVES FOREVER
He (Jaco) opened the door that allowed all the rest of the electric bass players in the world to walk through. A true GIANT of music in the 20th Century. Jaco lives, in all of us who loved his playing and his music. He's been gone almost 25 years, he died in 1987. Wow. Gone but NEVER forgotten.
They're all such amazing musicians, Im particularly enjoying the percussionist on the hand drumsin this video. Good stuff!
Just UNFREAKIN BELIEVABLY AWESOME Thank You , Thank You Thank you Bloody !
Jaw on the floor!!!.....show me anyone close to this today! Jaco was a just awesome...
Rimarranno nella storia. Grandissimi!!!!
jaco is the best bass player i have heard ever. even though the synth covered him up it was still pheonomenal
I'm absolutley stunned by Joe's passing. So suddenly. Thank you Mr. Zawinul for the incredible WR music. As a musician he's become inspiration for me in the last year or so. Disovering WR this past two years has been an adventure.
Love this piece!!!!
This group is formidable
That's just a legendary jam thx for the upload pls keep em coming
God Jaco knows how to put a smile on my face every time I listen to him (:
@Bloodyfountain; Its apparent that Weather Report as we knew it will never be again , but to be able to see these moments in time captured is sooo special . This was the beginning of the pinnacle of W R. Just think..... For this album something very rare happened... POP N JAZZ WERE ONE IN THE SAME . EXTRODINARY
This is the best version of Teen Town in my opinion, very cool vid.
No encuentro ningun musico que interprete los SILENCIOS como este tipo..!!!! Grande Jaco !!!......seguramente estaras tomandote unos mates con Zappa......
elktro music from the 70's beautiful !!!
OMG. Jaco is a freak on bass. Its incredible!
What an incredibly cool song!!!
Looks great, sounds great. Thanks for sharing!
Wonderful musicians, amazing music! / ¡Maravillosos músicos, impresionante música!
The way Joe Zawinul doubles Jaco's bass line is incredibly tight!
This friggen Rocks! Love Jaco.
They are all extremely good musicians. Jaco stands out on his own, though. Doing things no one had done before (or since). A tragic life, though. Bought the vinyl the month it came out in the '70s. Listened to it scores of times.
My god, the tone of Jaco's bass is just unbelievable! Then when Zawinul is doubling him up on keys. Jesus.
One of the best players to have ever lived him and victor wotton up 2 of the greatest ever
This feels SOOOOOO good.
Weather Report were at the peak of their powers during this period and I managed to see them in London, wicked.
i love it when the hand drummer gets up and hits the big drum at about 1:35. classic.
FANTASTIC.........................
Jaco was/is the best. Not only he had/has more technique that any other bassist, but also he has/had a unique taste to play and compose music.
I saw them both...never been the same since
i love how easy zawinul tosses off the right hand, walking with jaco's bass line.
fav. fusion/jazz band ever
i get so damn happy of this. love it!!!
