I should probably say, as of yesterday, I'm pretty sure the Pact of the Blade Warlock isn't going to get Weapon Masteries for free.

Given how invocations are being worked and changed, I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a feat that allows you to grab weapon mastery, so they can likely grab it. Having said that, you can choose which cantrip you empower, not just eldritch blast, putting the invocations on say booming blade, could make for some fun shenanigans even if you don’t have weapon mastery out right.

@@roninhare9615 That's a pretty good call, and lines up with what we know for the branching Pact Boon options. We also know the Warlock will have "Lessons Of the First Ones" Invocation to grab an Origin Feat. Weapon Mastery and Magic Initiate will (hopefully) be origin feats. Very stoked for the Booming Blade silliness, that and Green Flame Blade hold a special place in my heart since the 4e Swordmage.

@@RookiesAndRulebooks also! Don’t forget, True strike is likely a blade trip now too, however it’s weaker, with the big difference being you can use it with any weapon attack you make. Meaning you can make a true strike with a long bow. I’m sure there are more nifty things hidden in the book they haven’t shown, thus far I’m happy with most of the things I’m seeing from dnd2024.

5:06 Something interesting about Cleave is that you can add your rage damage, or damage from a spell like Hex or Hunter's mark. Probably one of the strongest if you have friend who pushes enemies close to each other 7:04 Correct me if I'm wrong but I think you could technically activate sgain if you action surge (Maybe you can attack six times at level 5)

They will have suggestions on how to bring those across. Tashas subclasses will probably be simpler than Xanathers, but for the most part, you just move the 1st level subclass abilities to level 3.

It pulls a lot from the pathfinder branch of d&d and 4e. As such, it's not for me. I don't like fiddly bits, and the fact that it's assigned to weapon, not a class option means more mental burden, and typically upon the dm. The ability to swap masteries on a long rest makes choice of which weapon a bit pointless, because you typically only have 1 weapon, maybe 2, equipped ever. Swaping midbattle still requires either an action or a bonus action, so having more than 2 masteries is.... Dubious in its usefulness, and if drawing a weapon is just a free action, then that changes weapon uses and the action economy DRASTICALLY, (although manageable, and i don't think anyone really bothers qith the fact that bows/crossbows have a loading function which also affects action economy). Consider JC said he swapped between 3 weapons as a fighter shows me even the creator seems to ignore a fair amount of rules.... Statuses, while cool, can be a bit too powerful, including a weapon that allows prone EVERY SINGLE ATTACK, or to a lesser degree, advantage/disadvantage every time. Push on the other hand and cleave, are great mechanics, offering up extra damage or movement, which can free up players to move further away and avoid attacks of opportunity. Nick is also awesome for freeing up a bonus action/allowing 2 strikes, and would be interesting on the rapier, rather than vex, though make it a bit overpowered even if flavorful. I think they put a little too much balance on this new ruleset. Masteries COULD work if they had more to do with interacting with PLAYER action economies, (though a stun effect with a save wouldn't be bad either) and movement for both sides.

Hey 5th ed types. Weapon mastery was a thing back in second edition. Hate to bear the bad news WotC has added nothing but stupid hot takes to D&D.
