    I'm from Africa, my rabbits feed on so many varieties of fresh leaves 90% of the time from 2 weeks of age and only give them hay during the day and their poop look fine, never had a problem. We breed overseas rabbits as well that'll even eat meat at times and still grow big and healthy and reproduce. What could possibly explain the difference in feeding habits from these continents ? My does give birth underground and I try to emulate their lifestyle in the wild as much as I can. I like your content

    @@TheRabbitryCenter Some get to be caged (mainly the aggressive ones) but depending on the weather they get to play in the field or seek shelter when needed. Basically, the pregnant does are placed in a secluded area filled with dirt soil where they can dig deep enough to give birth but not get out of reach. Requires much trust and patience as I get to wait for two weeks before I meet the kits.

Do you have trouble with bloat in your rabbits when you wean them off. I was talking to a breeder recently who said a lot of people are having problems with it. They recommended starting the weaned rabbits on mostly grass hay with just a little bit of pellets when first weaned and then gradually adding pellets.

    When Nursing a litter. I feed her 8 oz.-16 oz. in the morning and 8 oz-16 oz. in the evening. If she still has pellet left I'd add less. I have a general idea of how much pellet should be in the feeder after looking at it day in and day out. So it just depends. When the kits get bigger 4-5 weeks I start adding an 8 oz scoop for every (2) kits. I never fill the feeder up because as you probably know pellet doesn't keep. It gets stale after 3-4 days all the uneaten pellet turns into a stuffing crust. When she's done nursing and back in her cage I keep her on a strict 16 oz. a day diet where she will lounge around and relax and slowly get back up to kindling weight.

    I'm sorry to hear that. Try cleaning the bowls and bottles and cages. Make sure feed is clean and your water is fresh. Your pellet protein level is at 16% at least and double check the hay isn't dirty or moldy. If you still have trouble try introducing new blood and new breeders to get better results.

    We originally had several designs we were using. We field tested different tote setups. We had totes with boxes, totes without boxes and we tried raising them in the run and then finally arriving at our system we now have. The mama doe makes her nest in the kindling tote and after kindling we give them 10 days to get a little stronger. Day 10 we move them to the grow out cage for the next month until they get weaned. This makes it easy the keep the kits healthy and safe. Plus, it makes it easy to sell a rabbit when they aren't running around it's a whole lot easier.

  • @TheRabbitryCenter

    @TheRabbitryCenter

    4 жыл бұрын

    I bred one of my solid white bucks with a rabbit that has different color genetics. She's half red and half blue. Her litters are full of colors which we really enjoy. Also when customers take a look they have a variety to choose from. We find this works better than providing just one or two choices. Most people who contact us for a rabbit just want a cool looking rabbit. Some folks want a traditional solid white, blue, black, red for shows but that's a rarity. Farming any animal takes time and I personally like to mix colors and experiment because it makes it all a little more fun. The ARBA(American rabbit breeders association) doesn't recognize rabbits that have mixed colors calling them steel but most of my customers don't have any affiliation with the ARBA.

    @@TheRabbitryCenter I was just trying to get of building a lean-to haha. I was more worried about the heat in the Summer with them being in the garage. I was going to put a tarp or tray under the cages in the garage, but I do suppose the smell would be over bearing after awhile. Thanks I appreciate your help

    those cages are too small to have two rabbits in. your rabbits will get very sad if you keep them in those conditions. also where is their water? do you not give your rabbits water? Its sad to see how you have your rabbits in those conditions. also change their placements wire bottom cages can give your rabbit soars on their feet, which isn't good for them. rabbits should be living in good conditions not in horrific conditions. your rabbits will freeze to death if you keep them outside
