I foster pregnant cats, cats with kittens and kittens on their own for our local shelter. I love helping them grew and get them ready for their forever homes. I get them used to being held, use the litter box, not to bite, like getting brushed and get used to being around dogs or anything else I can think of they may have in their new Forever Home. I'm lucky that I get new kittens every 2 -3 months but it's sad that so many need a home that may not get one

Few months ago I got a kitten and it never shut up, even after beating its ass a few times it kept it up. So I took it to the woods and tossed it, good luck to that kitten.

OMG! Yess! Kittens should be weaned at around 5 weeks old. I recommend Kitten Lady. Shes a professional kitten researcher, and knows tons about weaned kittens.

I agree that 3 weeks is too early. We have a stray litter that we’re bottle feeding and they’re about 4 1/2 to 5 weeks old and only a couple have any interest in food. One just wouldn’t suckle anymore and just chewed on the nipple and tried to bite my hand lol. He obviously was ready for food. They were pretty sick when we got them (mom abandoned them and just wouldn’t care for them anymore) so they may be a bit delayed.

I have 4 kittens with a young mother and started at about 3.5 weeks introducing them to the 2nd step weening formula. I figured that would be an easier transition than canned wet food. I started with syringe and they generally hated that, but they didn’t understand the concept of a saucer. Into week 4 I could get 2-3 of them to eat from the syringe because they discovered it doubled as a teething tool. It’s now week 5 and I have 2 who are regularly willing to drink the weening milk from a saucer and 2 who refuse. One of which still refuses the syringe as well. I know we’re supposed to go at their pace, but I do worry for their mother because she herself is only about a year old and I don’t think she’s producing well. They’re also causing tissue damage with their teeth which I’m worried will lead to mastitis. I’m really only taking care of them because they showed up on my porch, so I can’t afford to take them to a vet until the 12 week mark when I’ll get them fixed and adopted but… am I doing it wrong? Should I only be trying to give them canned wet food? I thought weening milk was what you were supposed to do

Also I can’t leave the saucers of milk out without monitoring because their mother comes and eats it. She’s so smitten with the weening milk that I’m now having trouble getting her to even eat kitten kibble… it’s a mess

They are probably just use to moms milk. I would definitely try mixing wet kitten food mixed with formula, as cats are carnivores. You may have to put some on your finger and let them lick it off at first. I'm about to be going through the same!

This is crazy, I am experiencing this almost exact thing right now. They kinda need to start eating ASAP at 4-5 weeks old because their mom is feeding them less and less because they fight at the nipple so bad it's hurting her but only 2/5 kittens of mine are interested in food with 1 of them being actually very scared and stressed by the food saucer

I’m waiting on my kitten to stop weening. Can’t wait for my new baby. Already named him Batman.

My Cat’s kitten is 15 weeks now and still nursing. And the mom has no problem with it. Kitten also eats plenty of solid food throughout the day. I’m worried she’ll still be trying to nurse from her mom well into adulthood.

I have a four week (possibly going on five weeks) kitten that will eat wet kitten food mixed with the KMR. But she won't lap the milk on its own, only drinks it from the bottle. Is this okay or should I stop giving the wet food until she laps the milk?

I have two kittens about 4.5 weeks. One kitten is going to town on wet food. I have moist kitten kibble out too. The other kitten has no interest in food. I have been dipping my finger in the wet food and bringing up to her mouth. No interest. She's nursing still. I also haven't noticed them pooping. I assume that they are somewhere in the room I have them in. They're peeing fine. I would assume that they are going properly because they're eating. Maybe mom is still cleaning them well they're with her. I love them so much, I want to know they're okay. They play and love attention from me. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

I have taken in a homeless cat who produced 3 kittens. They’re now 5 weeks old. One is eating kitten soft food but the other 2 aren’t interested at all. If I put various dishes of food down to encourage them, then Mum cat eats it all! I’ve tried putting a tiny bit on their lips to encourage them but no luck. I don’t want to separate them for feeding only yet so am waiting to see what happens. I also have special kitten kibble down too which the Mum doesn’t gobble up! I have been worried that they’re not weaning but I realise now it may be a bit early for the 2 babies.

Mom Cats should wean their Kittens by weeks 4-6. But really it's on the Cat whenever it decides to do it. Around the same time Mom Cat will begin training their kittens to hunt by bringing dead animals followed by live animals.

My baby is 8 month and still try to suckle of mum cat not sure what tor try anymore keeps me up most nights as mum cat comes to me to get her away she was never good at telling them when they were babies any help please

I was given a kitten at 1 week old. The mother took pride in her for 2 days and then mom/ baby disappeared. Baby reappeared without mom after 2 days. The last that have her to me has her for about 2 days before I took her. Miracle (kitten) is now about 10 weeks and still shows no interest in regular food. Vet doesn't seem worried yet. What do I do to help her?

I recommend watching kitten lady’s video, you could mix in a bit of food with his kitten formula and bottle feeding him. Then you could mix kitten formula and food and put it in a plate, if he won’t eat it, try to feed him with your finger as they associate your finger with food. Wait till he is ready! I recommend starting the weaning process at 5 weeks old for him. Always supplement with a bottle for the first few days just to make sure he’s full. Hope this helps!

Do not feed them and start weaning them at three weeks of age you should do this between 4 to 6 weeks but preferably five weeks of age. It is incredibly dangerous to do it so early as it can be dangerous to the stomachs and can cause fatal

My cat has abanbon them and there 3 weeks

We found a kitten that was abandoned and was less than a week old. Still had the umbilical cord. We have been trying to offer food on plates and she won't touch it. She's going on 6 weeks old. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe she still needs milk, if not, try wet food, you make it at home by blending some steamed unsalted chicken ( leave some of he cooked a chicken juice) and some dry kitten food , and belnd until its a paste and serve

The kitten would have been less than 4 days old. You needed to bottle feed her with kitten milk replancement.

Didn't really need the information (interesting as it is I've no intention of ever breeding cats, there are too many poor babies without homes) I just wanted to coo over the kittens! 😻😻😻

U never know when u pick up a stray and they end up having babies...that just happened to me...here for info, and the cute faces!!

I have one question I have mom and 2 kittens, the kittens have just turned 9weeks old and although they eat dry and wet food mom will still let them suckle. Is this ok and will she stop feeding them eventually?

she'll stop but it's fine even if she doesn't as long as she's being fed a good *kitten food*. I once knew a cat who was 7 months and still feeding on her mum. as long as everyone is well fed and healthy shouldn't be a problem

Mother stops nursing their kittens at around 8-10th week. Feral and stray cats may not leave their kittens, they can continue live in a group, she will just stop nursing them and teach them how to hunt.

No no no no no no nooooo. There is so much wrong with this video Pease.. everyone... DO NOT WEAN YOUR KITTEN/S BEFORE AT LEAST 4 weeks. A more comfortable age is 5 weeks as long as the kittens are healthy and eating good. If the kitten is having a hard time nursing or feeding formula then you need to wait to wean when they are eating better. Also... if you are bottle feeding... DO NOT give them straight solids. You need to make a slurry with about 1/4 can of wet food per full bottle to start with . Feed that to them for a few days and then SLOWLY introduce solids= wet food. When they're eating wet food, you always want to have formula on hand to make sure they are full. Just for the love of kittens... DO NOT feed them before 4 wks. 3 wks is wayyyy to young(and my personal opinion is the same for 4wks.. I prefer 5) their stomachs are not ready at that age to be able to digest it.

My 8 month cat is kneading on me for milk. He kneads on my belly.

Actually I don't think it's safe to wean kittens until their 5 weeks of age. Not all their teeth are grown in until then and it's definitely not safe to wean them at only three weeks!?
