Hey Arnold is one of Nickelodens classic 90's early 2000's cartoons, its an animated masterpiece with Helga G. Pataki, Gerald Johanssen, Grandpa and Grandma, and arnolds absent parents that appear in the jungle movie. Follow this grounded reaction video to this new york kids show that is hilarious and great. Spilling The Milk watches and watched HEY ARNOLD is much more adult than we remember

Y'know what the interesting part is? ....If you really think about how Helga sees Arnold, where she hates him when he's around, but is secretly in love with him from afar. That makes her one of the earliest examples of a Tsundere.

No, it is so well known of a fact (that it's even a bit in Lucky Star and Ganshiken), that tsun tsun + dere dere refers to transformation arc from uppity to down for it. Helga doesn't have that arc. You're basically saying that Godzilla was one of the earliest examples of Frankensteins. Taking the modern mistake of MISUSE of the word itself, and even in the confines of that mistake not getting it quite right. Because Frankenstein doesn't MEAN a monster, even if you mistake the Frankenstain's Monster as "Frankenstein".

@@sboinkthelegday3892Lucky Star came out a whole eleven years after Hey Arnold. Not that the prior comment made much sense either but yours was practically just as nonsensical. For instance, Evangelion, a show which boasts possibly the most recognizable tsundere in pop culture came out in 1995. Asuka Langley is without a doubt the character that popularized the trope.

Japanese dub would make this even more perfect.
A weird thing about that canceled series is how it was going to be about Helga as a high schooler and she got exactly what she’s been asking for from Hey Arnold, her parent’s attention. What’s even sadder is that her older sister Olga went from the perfect A+ school girl with limitless opportunities to a ruined and home dependent adult who can’t find work, she literally became her mother without the alcoholism.

@@georgeprchal3924 I think the backstory for the 180 is that Olga wasn’t able to find success as a part time actress and had too many failed relationships that steered her away from her dreams. Probably an example of how big dreams don’t always work out.

@jaidora I’m not lying when I’m saying this, but that’s the same situation as me!! I was a good student who was really well-full of opportunity. Then come adulthood and all of a sudden I couldn’t get a job or no stable entry into a workplace… I became near-homeless essentially with no end to this hell. It’s a terrible, terrible thing to live.

@@jaidoraI always figured it was one of those, high achievers with boundless potential but never really thought about herself or what comes after. She did it all to impress her parents and to keep up her appearance of a perfect girl. Meeting expectations because that is what she believes she need to do. And in turn, never had a chance to dream or think past graduating and going to college. Sure she could go and try to become a successful woman, but she soon realizes nothing makes her happy. Now with no one paying attention to her or giving her constant complement like before. College is where you learn to hopefully achieve your dream career. But I don’t think she had any. Which is why I assume she went to stardom. For the attention. And why she had so many failed relationships. She want someone to give her constant affection and love. But she choose poorly and these relationships never lasted. May be going a little too deep but this has happened in real life. Never met someone like this myself but we all heard of stories like this.
I remember when the series left on a cliffhanger and how disappointed I was that we never got to see him reunite with his parents. Then Nickelodeon actually let the creator return and make a movie that gave it the ending I always wanted. I legit shed a tear because a part of my childhood got closure.
Arnold's chill, somewhat melancholy vibes felt so unique for a kid's show. its hard for me to think of another show I watched growing up that felt the way it did.

I know, especially when Arnold had 5 voice actors throughout the series. I do like the first 2 voices for Arnold because they both sound soothing and chill. I do have to get used to the 3rd VA for Arnold in the later seasons because he does sound deep spoken and hard to hear but eventually I will get there.
Apparently Eugene’s birthday is Friday the 13th the guy is literally born to be unlucky.

The best moments of the show: Helga on the Couch, the Christmas episode, Arnold's parents backstory episode, and the parrot episode (you'll know why when you get to it). Hey Arnold was great because it was a simple show of kids just being kids. The stakes weren't that high, yet the show had heart and emotion. You felt like these kids were the kind you wanted to hang out with back in the day.

There are two episodes about Arnold's folks back story. The parents day episode and the Journal episode.
This show was educational, just watch Helga's backstory and family interactions... and learn the meaning of pain.
I think the Jimmy Neutron series was directly influenced by Hey Arnold for its dynamic between Jimmy & Cindy: *1)* Aggressive, often temperamental blonde hides her secret crush on the protagonist behind a facade of animosity. *2)* Protagonist has a distinct, oddly shaped head. *3)* Protagonist lives in a neighborhood full of colorful, often eccentric characters. *4)* Protagonist is uncommonly smart & mature for his age, but still a kid who makes mistakes and learns morals. *5)* The blonde's secret crush is almost discovered several times before she finally admits it face-to-face. Yes, I'm well aware that most-all of those tropes were probably done before Hey Arnold, but it is an interesting coincidence if The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius' creators weren't at least a little inspired by Arnold and Helga.
Arnold would’ve definitely filed a restraining order against Helga if he ever found out the stalker s*it she did.

I still can't believe Nick made The Jungle Movie 15 years after the show ended. It was such a good way to finally end the show on a high note.
I'm so happy you guys check up this show... I haven't seen it as a child but much later. Is wild how good it is for and from the late 90s
I like we all think it’s supposed to be New York but according to the creator it’s supposed to be Seattle!
Damn, theyre getting into my childhood shows now
A lot of people love comparing Arnold with SpongeBob (alongside Phineas and Molly McGee, for more modern examples) in the sense that they are incredibly kind-hearted beings, so you know you’ve f*cked up if you piss them off. I see Arnold as one of the earliest examples of an animated character who tries so damn hard to keep composure and tries so hard to not go over the edge.
Reacting to Hey Arnold in 2023 is the equivalent of reacting to George Washington's war journal
This is legitimately one of the greatest cartoons ever made in America.
This show was and still is amazing. The songs, the stories, the fact that they have several dangerous characters (stalkers in Helga and Brainy as well someone in need of therapy in both Mr. Jolly Olly Man and Curly). Just fun all around

Eugene is the original Bad Luck Brian
its super weird watch hey arnold in english. In the latin dub Helga has something i would describe as the most deep and unique voice for a girly-girl character in any cartoon, i have her lines burned right in my brains but in the original she's just generic child voice #4 and its really strange for me xd arnold has a deep voice in latino as well , but sound more like a normal teenager, so its not so weird like helga's case
@Santoryu90

I wouldn’t really call Helga a girly girl character and in English her voice comes in her own a bit later in the series. Also most of the kids in Hey Arnold are supposed to be like 9-10 years old not teenagers.
Please watch more of this show!! Loving it so much! Hey Arnold! Is a hidden gem from Nick that more people should know about today.
16:34 plot Twist... Stoop kid is the little brother of a drug dealer and isn't allowed to leave his post keeping an eye out. Moments after Stoop kid chased herald... a rival gang showed up and without Stoop kid to warn them... his brother and everyone else died in a drive by

I'm gonna add context to this, one of the creators of Phineas and Ferb, Dan Povenmire, worked on this series, which might've give him the inspiration from the characters designs from the show to create his own (like Isabella for example)
The Stoop Kid episode is a fucking classic.
