Pretty sure in some packages you can get them as green apple so it's somewhat package-dependent but I associate green apple with the sour and especially the double sour packs. It shows up as lime whenever I picture them in my head.

As an American who grew up with that other kind of smarties I can simply use context to figure out the meaning of homonyms.

I feel that skittles thing so much. It was utter betrayal when skittles replaces lime with sour apple

Just a little thing here, I don’t know if skittles still does it but they have skittles dark side or something along those lines and I used to get them all the time because they put the lime back into it with a lot of different flavors that are really good

The switch from lime to green apple was genius and you know it!

What's funny is that fermented US Smarties would have basically 0 flavour. Smarties in the US are compressed Dextrose which is used by brewers to boost ABV because it has no taste.

I remember Brians knife trick fail from it being sent around in email during the early 2000s, made me so anxious as a kid, very distinct memory

Fairly recently they reverted back to green skittles being lime and it was fantastic. Green used to be the best, then they ruined it and made it the worst, and then they fixed it again. Though fun fact is all skittles taste the same but just smell different which is where the difference in flavor comes from.

I was so confused this entire video, because in canada smarties are similar to M&Ms where rockets are the flavoured powder pill things. Altogether very good and entertaining video.

So, I made a caramelwine by caramelizing sugar and diluting it down into a wash. It actually turned out to have some interesting fruity notes after it was fermented. I used ale yeast, though, not bread yeast.

I can't believe that Brian likes the lime flavor! When Skittles switched it back to lime I started avoiding the green Skittles, they taste so much worse than the green apple flavor, and everyone I've asked agrees.

Hey so a potential reason that some of these are still SUPER sweet is that many preservatives inhibit yeast multiplication leading to incomplete fermentation.

Quicker way of doing the Skittles drink......takes a cheap bottle of vodka, pour in a couple of bags of skittles (crushed up or blended), screw the top back on the bottle of vodka, now put the bottle in your dishwasher on the hottest clean setting (without adding the usual cleaning agents) et voila.....skittles flavoured vodka!

Their arguments are like every argument between nerds I have ever seen. Nerdiness is universal.

We did this in my highschool organic chemistry class, made alcohol from sugar sources. My friend and I made ours from jolly ranchers and pixie sticks. Got a pretty high (flammable) proof too.

Yeah, it's a constant thing, whenever a video featuring "U.S. Smarties" comes up there's always someone from Canada or the UK going, "Hey those aren't the REAL Smarties." Meanwhile I've never seen a single video where someone actually shows U.K. Smarties. I'm beginning to think it's a myth, like "drop bears" or something.

In Saudi Arabia compounds, they make exactly this, but distill it until it is 80 some odd percent alcohol (to make sure it isn't toxic) and then add water to bring it down to somewhere more like 40%. They call it Sid, Uncle Sid, or Sidiki. It tastes fucking aweful, but when you're in the desert where drugs (including booze) is punishable by death, you drink what you can get your hands on.

As someone who does make his own booze, I love these episodes. I always wondered if this was possible, but never was brave enough to try. I wish i could have been Cory for this one. :D (But i will totally do the sugar/water thing. With citric acid as ph moderator, it could taste delicious.)
