    @@MrTricksterWins It does depend, Up to speed is just a "the more you know" about the history of specific cars while Hilow is entertaining because they do explain the things that you do from a poor man's build to Rich man's build that can beat super cars with enough money. The thing that is amazing about this show is the struggles and problems they have to go through which is why it makes the series great.

    My wife and I had our car die in traffic earlier today. We got it off the road, And I came back with some tools. I didn't have any fuel pressure. Belatedly I put a half gallon out of the lawnmower gas can in the car. It started right up. The gas gauge showed 1/4 tank, but it was actually empty. At least it was a cheap fix.

    A good note to add is that the ideal Air:Fuel ratio (stoich) for e85 is 9.8 vs gasoline's 14.7:1. So for the same amount of air moving through the engine you want at least 50% more fuel injected just to not be lean..This means larger injectors are required to hit the same power number as gasoline at the top end. There is also a decent power gain from the additional fuel pulling a lot more heat from the intake air to evaporate, like water/methanol injection.

  • @presinald

    @presinald

    They added 1300cc injectors which just sounds absolutely insane to me when I've only had small NA engines on pump gas so they did cover that in the Hi car. Wish they showed any tuning involved, I assume they worked with the dyno guy to get a new map down but yeah unless they have a genius ECU would have loved to see the process of getting a nice E85 map down.

    Just be aware that the idea that ethanol is better for the environment is not really true when you get into all the externalities involved in creating it. The amount of corn used is absolutely massive and all that corn requires large amounts of mostly petroleum based fertilizer to grow and it's then harvested by mostly diesel powered equipment. At the end of the day I think that ethanol mainly exists as a subsidy for American corn growers to give them a consistent inflated market to dump their product on. The emissions from burning ethanol in an engine aren't really any cleaner than hydrocarbons assuming it's a modern engine with a standard catalytic converter.

    Hope you went through a few full fuel tank cycles with the same e85 to ensure the ECU adjusts the timing to its fullest. Also, it should be pointed out that lowcar might've gotten one less hp, but it's a 20.9% increase compared to high car's 17% increase from 405hp.

  • @mm6705

    @mm6705

    What do you mean? Like if they didn't drain the tank? IIRC those subaru ECUs do not adjust timing on the fly when flashed, or otherwise. Thats what the tuner is for. I also winced that they didnt talk about rescaling the fuel tables with updated numbers for the larger injectors. Depending on the jump in fuel flow and injector type, you can do catastrophic damage to your build... Also...E85 is RARELY actually 85% ethanol, even the summer blend. I think over 4 years of daily driving an E85 car across multiple states, the highest I ever saw was 81% it was usually 75-79% at the sensor.

  • @juandig

    @juandig

    @@mm6705 I did not consider the flashed ecus. I was thinking of subarus adjusting their timing for knock correction from factory. I had a noticable difference when I filled up 98 octane vpower coz I usually use 102 octane. The ecus take a few fuel cycles (filling up and driving it empty) to adjust properly.

    Build it correctly the first time is the best advice I’ve ever given on this channel I built my fox body👈 with the factory block that came in the car to 600 wheel (over the forbidden 600 flywheel) horsepower with a Paxton supercharger almost 15 years ago and I drive her hard and she holds together and it’s put on 20k+. When I built it I put the absolute best parts that were available in the market at the time in the motor and it works I’ve only opened it once and that was to change the Fel-Pro head gaskets out to Cometic because when we were putting the engine together the first time we could not get a hold of Cometic gaskets

    For those of you in the comments who don’t know (like me a couple weeks ago), wheel horsepower is different from crank horsepower. It’s different because the power at the crank is unfiltered, whereas at the wheel there is some loss. The power loss is common and there are various levels of it. Here’s bhp vs whp for various drivetrains FWD: 1.1/1 RWD: 1.15/1 AWD: 1.2/1 AWD Loses the most power because it has the most moving parts. If we were to apply the logic, and given that the WRX comes with AWD, then that means… LoCar: 393 awhp = 471.6 bhp HiCar: 474 awhp = 568.8 bhp Of course these numbers are not exact because some transmissions transfer power more efficiently than others, but this is a general rule of thumb. Also, if you look at Nolan at 13:29, you can see he want’s to be on HiTeam at that moment when the turbo spools in HiCar.

    There is a video I can’t find that has some guys taking a stock old Chevy truck, early 90s model I think, and all they did was add E85 and tune. The stock numbers were pretty lame but just with the E85+tune they almost tripled the power. Obviously the entire drive train would destroy itself quickly if they drive it like that, but it was impressive. I think they upgraded the injectors and pump also. Wish I could find the video.

    I tell Ya, after over 30+ years of working on cars I really Prefer just Driving my 2020 Subaru STI and mentoring people and watching other people work on Cars. 👍😁 I love the Hawkeye WRX/STI, personally it is the 2nd best looking STI, Right after the 2000 Subaru STI, Sadly never came to the U.S, but I have the 2nd best think a 2000 2.5RS which looks completely the same except the 2.5RS has Fog Lights. I really love rhe fact that I only put a Downpipe, K&N AirFilter, Modified the Air Box, a Cobb Tuner and had my 2019 STI Pro-Tuned and made 400 H.P. Crazy how far the Tech has Come Since the Hawkeye STI. One of the best Parts about the 18-21 STI Is the Stock Transmission will Handle 1000HP. Unfortunately some A-Hole ran me off the Road and Totaled my 2019 STI, Thats why I'm driving a 2020 STI Completely Stock, expect a K&N Air filter. Still have 310 HP Stock. Still Plenty Fun in the Twisties. 👍😁

    I don't know if you have it on there or not but please install the coolant 4 mod and IAG oil pickup feed. They are mandatory. Especially if you don't want to blow these cars. Engine up another three times or ever many times they've blown up. I own a Hawkeye STI so I'm pretty experienced and the reason you probably had so much bad luck is cuz you got to spend as much as a turbo kit on stuff. Subaru should have put on the car to begin with before you add any power but those are the two big ones. Take it or leave it, but don't be surprised if it blows up without those two mods especially

  • @michaelfortier7726
    @michaelfortier77268 ай бұрын

    little correction: the stoich ratio of E85 is much lower than gasoline, meaning you can stuff in much more fuel for the same amount of air, so the end result is you have more energy available per revolution, even if it is less energy dense for an identical quantity. The added fuel cools the combustion making it less likely to detonate, so you can add boost and timing, so more bang from that as well.
