    The reason why exposed carbon fiber on Hyper cars is SO damn expensive is because EVERY SINGLE body panel has to match the carbon fiber wave and pattern, it's a VERY hard thing to do, with paint you don't have to worry about any kind of imperfections, but if there is a little thing wrong with exposed carbon fiber, you have to make the whole panel again.

    I was wondering too if it’s difficult to properly preserve the composite pieces because composites degrade in sunlight similar to plastics. If there’s not a strong UV protectant on there, those panels start looking a little rough after a few years… but I suppose most of these cars aren’t outside much lol

    There's no way the diamonds weighed a total of 2.5k. It'd basically be dust already. My guess is they used 1000 diamonds between .2-1k. That would put the paint in the $1-2 million range. Although, saying it takes 1000 diamonds could also mean they purchased the dust like Nolan said, significantly reducing the price. Alternatively, they could be lab-grown diamonds. Which would offer the same quality at a 30-50% discount. My guess is the diamonds alone cost $500,000-$1,000,000

  • @Garriffic

    @Garriffic

    11 ай бұрын

    Chat GPT didn't understand what Nolan asked, which was for the price of 1000 * 0.25ct diamonds. So, if they only needed 250ct of diamond dust to paint the car, I found a vendor that sells 5ct of diamond dust for $40 USD. That would be $2000. Even if they needed 1000ct of dust, it would only be $8000. I guess they could have sourced expensive diamonds to crush, but they wouldn't have been diamonds that were already cut, polished, and graded (which is where much of the cost of the diamond comes from). I wouldn't be surprised if they really used $2000-$8000 in diamond dust with an exorbitant markup, which seems par for the course with the auto industry (especially the hyper-luxury segment).

I'm not mad that I can't afford it because even if could I wouldn't want it. If somebody told me they spent that on car paint I'd ask how they managed to afford it when their mentality is that of a childs. People don't have to be impressed by wildly expensive stuff when you reach a point where the expense is giving you nothing tangible of value beyond what normal high end car paint would. It's like flake gold used to decorate a cake. It's all sh1t in the end.

When they got done with the job, they would throw what was left into a gallon paint can. A while back, we found the can and opened it up. It was a ranbow of liquid glitter! The exposed carbon option costs so much primarily because they have to make sure that the panels have to absolutely perfect since it cant be hidden with paint. The other main factor is that the stripe patterns meet right at the centre to form a "V" pattern right along the centre of the whole car n the stripes technically continue in the exact same direction through the different panels. So they have to spend alot of time aligning n calculating the expansion before the raw product is put in the autoclave. Add the cost of ensuring the tint remains uniform throughout the length n width of the car n that equals to hundreds of man hours just on the exterior. Most of the cars tend to have the effects carried through to the interior as well n in cars like the Koenigsegg n Pagani these patterns match on minute things like strut braces, engine braces, engine cover, the spoilers, mirrors, n even on elements that will be visible only if you really were to take panels off the car. On the McLaren P1, the exposed carbon option was worth it because the cars with that spec usually command at least 5-600k USD over the "normal" painted cars.

    Is it me or does the audio sound really deep and vocal? Like listening to a radio broadcast. It's so...soothing. I never knew Nolan and Zack had such lovely voices.

    A vintage car with a wild paint job that was very expensive would be the 1929 Ruxton Model A, it had a rainbow paint job with fish scales in it to make it effervescent.

    Amazing CGI on the ad Donut, I legit thought Justin had another gig and yall were showing a clip from it, then the ad starts and its like "oh wait, this is an ad. 😂😂 For real though I thought back in the day Justin did some presentation or something about automotive paints or something lol. Excellent job Donut. I became a fan a few years ago and havent looked back. All of you are amazing and may you all have much success and joy.

    Diamonds are actually super easy to grind up. They rate 10 on hardness scale when trying to scratch other materials, but they're actually super brittle so you can easily smash them with a hammer.

    If I recall correctly the bare carbon price from the Jesko is also due to that they perfectly line up the carbon strands from panel to panel and it is completely symmetrical side to side.

    A few years back i took a tour through the Lamborghini factory. One of the guides asked our group which particular colour is the only colour we don't allow you to paint our cars? So our whole group said colours like pink, gold or smt like that, but it was actually ferrari red😂 It was obviously a joke, as we also asked what they do with their leftover pieces of leather (ofc looking for a free souvenir) and they replied by saying that they send that to ferrari so they can make their seats out of it
