Hey, everyone! Just a quick note: Not everyone will pick what _you_ may think are the best components for a given budget. Everyone has biases, unique use-cases, and stylistic preferences. Some may weigh aesthetics a bit more than you might. To others, performance alone is king. Ultimately, it is _their_ money. They can spend it however they wish, so long as it is _in-store_ and on _PC components._ I understand that many of you are simply expressing your opinions and hypotheticals, which, of course, it totally fine. Just remember that not everyone will see things the way _you_ do. Gear Up allows us to step into the shoes of multiple builders with varying budgets and opinions. There is no single right answer, and that's why I love filming these and picking the brains of our contestants. Thanks a ton for watching! 4 more episodes are on the way!

I know I made a comment about the choices on the last one but I did add that as long as they were happy with it...because that is what really matters. I wasn't attempting to be overly critical. I like the choices on this build, even if I may have been tempted to check out their 5800x3D bundle instead of the Intel, but man, that price savings is hard to argue with either way.

sad that you have to say this
Part of me was hoping for a 5800X3D CPU drop in + a big GPU upgrade, another part of me wishes he stayed with the 7800X3D* (edit: 7700X) bundle. But the price to performance (and balance) of the 12600KF + 6750XT can't be denied for $700ish. Given his previous rig's specs, this was a HUGE upgrade!

Same. The boot drive will become a major issue in the future (going from an AMD build to Intel), and also will likely be the first thing he replaces.
@williehrmann

I'd have gotten a low end AMD CPU if anything but never an AMD GPU. 4070 super would be 10 times better. Without proper raytracing he could have stayed at his old build and not missed much anyways. My friend has a 6950xt and he can't even turn on mild raytracing in games like Diablo 4 so the 6750xt would be absolutely unsuable for me. 700$ was really unlucky If I'd hit 800$ on on that show with that rig I'd just go 4070 ti super and nothing else. I was rocking a 3770k with my 3070ti just fine so a ryzen 5 1500x should be fine for like 1-2 more years if paired with a strong GPU.

PROTIP: The Microcenter bundles include the price of their suggested motherboard, but you can actually swap it with any compatible motherboard and still get the discount. This is great if you want to min/max, as with the 7700X bundle, you can go with an mATX B650 board for like $110, which saves like $70.

@@animalyze7120 what a distasteful take. generally speaking, smaller coolers are recommended in the enthusiast space, so I don't even know what you're on about. I hope he knows how to do that, or ot was like that purely for camera.
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the shop All the PCs were fixed, there were no flops; The thermal paste applied to the chips with care, The components stayed cool, even on just air; The children were nestled all snug in their beds; While visions of sensible and budget friendly PCs danced in their heads; And Greg with his vacuum, a meticulous chap, Not about to let any dustbunnies take a long winter's nap, When from a motherboard speaker there came an audible beep, Greg walked over and took a peep. He opened the side panel quick as a flash, Trying to determine the cause of the crash. The RGB fans gave the room a beautiful glow, He immediately knew the problem was not lack of airflow. When what to his wondering eyes did appear, A DIMM was not fully seated, that much was clear. He pushed the module back into place, careful and quick, Wondering if something so simple would do the trick. But still, no post screen came, He wondered if a faulty processor could be to blame. "Hmm... an i3, an i5, an i7, and i9... It's just for testing purposes, any one will do fine. I'll place the good CPU carefully in the socket! And I'll ground myself first to make sure I don't shock it!" With the new processor in, he gave it a try, Still no post, but he did not cry. Back to the drawing board, he was at a bit of loss. But then he remembered to clear the CMOS. No jumper cap, he pulled a bit of a MacGyver He touched the two pins with his trusty screwdriver. He pressed the power button, and this time around, Right into the BIOS with no unpleasant sounds! He took a quick look, just to make sure, All the components detected, and he heard the case fans whir. A fully functioning PC now sitting on his table, he ran Cinebench just to make sure it ran stable. With a working PC, his viewer's Christmas would be merry! Greg shares his wisdom to make PC repair less scary. He uploaded the full video and never once cursed, but reminded us all to try the simple things first. A job well done, he loaded the PC in his car, He'd return it tomorrow, the viewer didn't live far. But the night was not yet over, he had somewhere to be, Off to Microcenter, full of glee! He walked in the store, prize wheel in hand, set up his table, the display was grand. The lucky viewer walked up, and gave the wheel a spin. Eight hundred dollars, that's a big win! He reflected on his PC and asked Greg a question. A new motherboard, CPU, and RAM, what a sensible suggestion! They worked together and upgraded the outdated PC. Some good performance gains with a nice upgrade path soon came to be. Greg thanked his viewers, and the store's employees, and walked back to his car, enjoying the night's breeze. But I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight- “Merry Christmas to all, and to all a be quiet!"
