The best quality leather bags usually run between $350 and $500 anyway, and are NOT brand names. There is no need to spend more than that. When Henri Bendel closed it’s doors, a part of me died and I never recovered.

In resuming your well put, expert assessment if the informed consumer of luxury goods is actually aware is paying for “status” and not quality-then is money well spent- but taking your assessment as a teacher, who my salary puts me roughly in the middle class, I’d rather pay for quality leather good, without the status attached to it. ❤ I have HARA handbags and Monik handbags- far from luxury, but made of high quality Colombian leather and hardware. Mmhhh LV canvas is renowned for its durability. LV is originally a trunk manufacturer and they started using a special combination of canvas at the end of 19th century to differentiate the brand from its competitors and make their products hyper resistant to wear and tear. LV to my knowledge brags about their canvas and not their leather. It would have been more interesting to take one of their leather bag (because this one is clearly sold as canvas) or even better do that exercise with Hermes which is selling it self as the ultimate luxury brand in term of leather bags

Been trying to learn leathercraft as a hobby and possibly part time second job for like a few months or so now. Watched 3 of your dissect videos. First was a "short one" without much explaination of why you do things, thought "this guy is a maniac, he destroys stuff, just cuts it, burns it, etc.", then I clicked on your profile, watched pink puff bag and realized how there is a purpose in it. And now I realized how much more I learned just by watching those 3 videos. Custom makers on youtube that "teach stuff" don't mention things you do. They are in their own "makers world" while your video seems to have deep insight on actual production side companies use. Now gotta go watch some more and expand my horizons even further. Thanks a lot for your work.

I am so glad I found your page…SO GLAD! I get into these little ruts where I watch influencers promote these “designer handbags” and sometimes get suckered into really wanting to purchase an LV, Dior, etc. Just starry eyed about these bags and not even having enough intelligence to really think about what I am spending my money on or why I will put down so much money on one single bag or tiny accessory piece. After watching ALL your videos, it was really eye opening and it clicked in me exactly what is going on. First thing I did was unsubscribed to all those influencers. With the knowledge presented from you, I will move forward and only purchase quality and not status. I’m disappointed with my past purchases(which was not much), but still I am disappointed. Thank you for you and sharing your knowledge with everyone. Keep up the great work! My husband thanks you too! Lol

I just can't help but think that Tanner is a genuine full grain leather Whisperer. I remember in 1985, I asked my niece Laurie what she would like me to get her for Christmas. And she told me a leather strap from the Louis Vuitton store. I asked her, what do you mean leather strap why don't I just buy you the whole purse that comes with the strap? She said well I only need a new strap. I don't know why I can still remember going into the store and asking to purchase a specific length of a strap and standing at the checkout counter like it was just last year. When the guy rang up the total amount he told me my total was $150. I was absolutely flabbergasted as I was expecting a strap to be no more than $30. So I had to go walk an extra 45 minutes to the other side of the mall at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa California to get to the ATM machine take out more money. To think that I could get a 100% full-grain top-grain leather double strapped unlined purse for less than $50 at a store called Marshalls which I still use to this day just blows my mind! So about three years later my niece was laying out by the pool at my condominium in Irvine she asked me to grab something out of her purse before I come out with the appetizers. So when I was standing next to her laying on the chair I asked her why she wasn't using the strap I bought her for that particular bucket bag. She said oh that is the new strap that you bought me but it definitely wasn't leather because the one Giancarlo bought me in Italy smelled different and it felt much thicker and it lasted much longer and we were walking all over Hungary and Italy everyday. So what I have learned over the last 55 years is that leather is just one solid piece and if you see something between the leather it is obviously not actual leather. I have leather belts where it is just one solid piece and then faux leather which clearly when you bend it it breaks the cardboard in between it.

I like the legacy brands for their history. LV invented the coated canvas, because canvas is lightweight for travel, and coating keeps it clean and water repellent. This was a brand that catered to royalty and wealthy travelers, lending it a cachet of exclusivity. The brand has stayed true to its long, illustrious history, with many references to the past, and that has an intangible value. As travel accessories, their bags are very practical. Scoring a canvas bag from the perspective of leather and leathercraft is something else entirely. I appreciate your videos for the education on leather, however.

Absolutely agree! The guy is doing great craftsmanship work and that bag is stunning but people who are choosing canvas are aware it is not leather and going for it. I personally like my canvas bags, they are light, durable, practical, elegant and i love the LV monogram specifically. Plus the hardware. Craftsmanship stores are usually saving up on it, mostly they don't have it in the high end brand standards, so, it is devaluate the products look. But well, the nice news is everyone is free to choose whatever he/she likes 👍

So there is this spray that you can buy at any store and it's called leather smell. A couple times I sprayed it in my car and my passengers asked me if I just had my seats polished. You can even spray your shoes with new leather smell.

Hey everyone, if you love quality leather these guys have a website and an etsy where you can buy from them, at really reasonable prices. I bought myself one of there wallets off of etsy, since my old faux leather wallet was flaking itself to pieces. Recieved it yesterday and not only was it a great price but it is so beautiful and it feels great to the touch. I expect it to last a very long time, and not become trash in a couple years like my old one.

I learned about the plastic coated canvas feature when I took a job as a clerk in a leather goods store. I was shocked but it taught me to examine each bag I buy for the percentage and type of leather.

Love your videos, I will say however I do like the canvas on the bag, a personal choice. I don’t own any LV bags however but I can see the appeal separate from the perceived status of owning one of their products. A secure person buys whatever they like and can afford. Keep up the good work.

Oh i want that briefcase baaddd. I have quite a few LV bags. My favorite is a huge 3 compartment zip travel bag/ suitcase. But i love his creation when he reinvents that LV with some real leather. I knew mine were canvas before buying them.

I've never understood the appeal to the Louis Vuitton bags. Your bag turned out beautiful.

I wouldn't even buy the LV one for 170 usd. I might pay 85 usd if i'm generous. Your final bag is stunning.

I was begging my husband to buy me an LV otg bag last year. But I change my mind and bought a plane ticket instead! Would love to see you deconstruct a Top Grade Replica of those luxury bags to see whats all the hype about. Lots of my friends have those mirror copy and was really curious as they’re claiming its the same materials and all..

Such a good review - I’d also like to see your version of the LV bag in the high quality leather - like maybe embossing the logo onto it idk I think that would have scratched every itch!

Tha k you for educating the society . Dont buy with emotions , buy with logic. People pay the brand to fool them with ads on the next collection 😜. The leather bag will last you for decades
