I was at the Apollo when she performed that song she tore that stage up we were cheering her on saying her name. we were all surprised we thought she was black. Back in the days the Golden Era of music. We all thought Lisa Standfield was Black.

She tore it up on the Apollo when she sang this, brought the house down..

Another great example of blue-eyed soul. Incredible voice. Go Lisa!

Lol exactly. I remember the first time I heard her speak I burst out laughing - no harm to Rochdale folk cos I lived there for 6 months and I liked it - but I couldn't match her speaking voice with the singing one.

When I seen her singing with Barry White,I didn't realize she was a white woman because of her soulful tone. She's wonderful ❤️

When her record company sent this song out to radio stations they didn’t include a picture of her so people assumed she was black because of how soulful her voice is, people were surprised to find out she is a whole woman from England. She also performed at the Apollo theatre which was known for audiences booing people off the stage if they didn’t like them but she a standing ovation.

Lisa Stansfield is what we call a Northern Lass, from Rochdale Manchester and is from The North of England. This was a massive hit in 1989 was 17, and really popular in clubs and pubs across UK and Europe . People hold on. This is the right time. All woman and many more. Fun fact :- Lisa Stansfield was the first White British woman to reach number 1 on Billboard R&B Chart American Black music chart.

Lisa has one of the best voices in the world and shes from Rochdale in England UK

I always heard Lisa Stansfield sing on the radio. When I saw her perform on television for the first time, I was surprised that she was a white singer with a beautiful black voice. That is very unique! Also all her other songs are beautiful.

Don’t feel bad guys….after years of hearing this song on the radio, then finally seeing the video, I was in shock too!

She does a version with Barry White that you'd love as well as her performance of this song at the Apollo Theater. You two are great!🙂❤

Lisa has an EXTENSIVE past catalog of hits. Starting as a session singer on many HOUSE classic tracks. Her vocals could also be heard on some classic High Energy tracks from the 80s as well. With this song she finally broke out into her solo debut and album. Look, voice, style…….she had it all. And yes, she had been All Around The World! Go girl……..

When she was at the Apollo , they gave her a standing ovation. Barry White thought she was too. Soulful voice.

Lisa was Definitely underrated. Of all the great soul singers i've listened to going back to the early 70s, I would put Lisa's pipes up there with any of the greats! Her tone, low end and richness was amazing. An all time soul singer.

This song is actually a late 80’s hit, it was released in 1989, from Stansfields 1989 album, titled: Affection, and although it was released in 1989, the song continued to dominate on air well into the 90’s. A classic hit I would always hear on the radio, and another one of those songs that I never get tired of listening to.

First of all, NOBODY thought Lisa Stansfiekd was black. I've never met ONE PERSON who ever thought that. But she was jamming!!! The greatest performance of anybody ever, in my opinion, was that night shd was at the Apollo. She turned that place out!

She has soul !!

I had a similar reaction, a bit earlier, to Rick Astley. Living in a college dorm without MTV, the first time I saw one of his videos I was totally surprised. I took the lesson as "Don't jump to conclusions" because my mental picture of the music was so look way off.
