    Unfortunately, I feel that women's work performance will be penalised (consciously or sub-consciously) if they do actually take period leaves, and in the end, they might not take it even if given an option.

    I think companies need to normalise females wanting to take leave during their periods! I work in a male dominated industry and thought it was impossible to ever take leave during the worst times of having and period without judgement that I'm not pulling my weight at work as we always have to have a presence in the office. There's also education required that it's inappropriate to ask why a female had to take sick leave unless freely mentioned by the female on why. There is definitely no HR handbook or guidance on handling this in the workplace. I really like how Zula ran this video even though it's sponsored because there might be one female out there who experience this from lack of colleagues understanding this one thing that is completely out of our control

    28 days? I swear my menstrual cycle lasts like 40 days. I just started the pill and it’s way shorter than my regular cycle.

  • @phgoh
    @phgoh2 жыл бұрын

    Actually work from home scheme would have remove the need for period leaves. I do know of business owners who sync their work with their menstrual cycle, they'll choose to not work and fully rest for day 1. Even if there is period leave it's also fine because it's for 1/2 days only. Anyway, the other phases can make up for it too. Eg: During follicular phase, creativity is at its highest. During Luteal phase, productivity is the highest. It's about understanding and honoring the phases in your menstrual cycle, rest when you need, work when you need. Singapore and most societies are still on the patriarchal system, which values working hard consistently. This is not how females, or anyone with a menstrual cycle should work. // I'm using a menstrual cup so I dont need pads :P

    Yes! It will be great if Singapore companies implement period leaves as well! In this day and age, females have been working as hard as males or even harder! It will be great and rewarding if females are entitled to period leaves. Afterall, approx. 50% of the population are female and all males were birthed by female. Haha! Jokes aside, to be honest.. period cramps can be really bad sometimes that I can't get out of bed. How to even walk to clinic and get that MC? I'm definitely PRO period leaves! @valtyc

    Even though I am a female, I don’t think companies should implement period leaves! Because firstly, everyone’s periods cycle is different! Example, there are some people would experience 2 cycles in a month and some only experience 1 cycle every 3 months maybe. If it is the former, that female employee would be taking period leaves twice a month. Also, the average period last for 5-7days. That would be half a month not working at all. It does not seem fair to be paying such employees the same wage when they would be working half the amount of another employee. Secondly, if leaves are an option, people would definitely abuse it and take period leaves even they are not having their periods. Because it would be weird and uncomfortable for companies to get employees to send some sort of proof (like images) to show that they have periods. Companies would definitely not let employees take period leaves with the only proof being the employee’s words since it would be paid leave (if it is not paid leave then no employees would even take it unless it’s some insane cramps they are having). Because period tracking apps can be edited so companies will have to think of a way for the employees to proof they are having their period without violating their privacy. However! Companies could allow employees to work from home instead when they are having their periods. At least employees would be working but at a comfortable place. This also let the employees to work without worrying about things like if their period stained their pants, if they forget to bring pads to change or if people around them could smell their period > My IG handle is @mingliiny !

    I think it would be heard to implant, because of people abiding the system and taking leave when they don’t have a period and stuff but I think it would be very good if we did have it. For some women period cramps are just slightly uncomfortable, but for others it’s excruciating pain. I just started take the pill to deal with period cramps but before that, I got really bad cramps. Whenever I had period cramps I could not do any school work and would just spend the whole day curled up in bed or if I was at school I would just sit around all day clutching my stomach unable to think about anything other than the pain. I was very worried about how I would ever get a job because I was unable to do any work for a week every month. How would I hold down w job if I had to take a week off every month? Luckily I don’t need to worry about that now since I’m not having periods anymore but for some girls contraceptives aren’t an option. So I think a period leave would be very beneficial.

  • @juzwantukkomen5595
    @juzwantukkomen55952 жыл бұрын

    Controversial topic for implementation on period leaves. A lot of factors must come into consideration especially if you are working in a female dominated environment. Just to name a few: 1. Since they touch on the 'syncing' of period between females, what if more than 2 colleagues are having period cramps and decided to take leave at the same time? Bearing in mind if there are other colleagues who are already on annual leave and what not, will the manpower be enough to manage the workload? 2. Since periods are an ongoing monthly cycle, how many days are one entitled to for period leaves per financial year? On top of the mandatory 14 days MC, will their work performance be penalised if they keep taking period leaves? And will there be unsatisfaction from their male colleagues if their female counterparts work lesser in a year but get the same job grade as them? Not against the idea, but I do salute those females who have to go through this monthly painful cycle. Just that in Singapore, I feel it is a bit unpractical. Sadly.

    I agree with your points. Being a woman myself, my period cramps used to be really bad for day 1 & 2. Ever since I've started taking birth control pills, combined with the usage of a menstrual cup, I barely notice my period is there anymore. Birth control is not just for sex peeps HAHA. I guess the way I dealt with my period is more feasible than asking for the understanding of others. I can't imagine companies granting period leave XD. Maybe in my dreams~

    I agree with this opinion too. To add on, how to verify u are on ur period tho? Take pic for boss to see??? Who will regulate how much period leave u r entitled to? I dun want MOM involved with my period. Do you lose your period leave when you menopause?? And also, what about irregular period cycles?? Or if you have some days where you have light to no bleeding? Most women have periods that does not incapacitate them, they can still go on with their daily life and work albeit with feeling slightly uncomfortable from cramps and such. If the period pain is that bad, that they need leave from work/school, they prob have a medical condition like endometriosis for e.g. Even then, period leave is not the solution for this problem, as it is unfair to give special treatment just for women. And calling them 'Period Leave' is so ergh to me.

    Actually period syncing isn’t a real thing. It’s just because the cycle isn’t exactly a month long and people have cycles of different lengths so eventually they will be at the same time as someone else. Especially since they are a week long and a month is only 4 weeks. So it might seem like you “synced” but it’s just a coincidence.

    I think having period leave is really a luxury as we’ve been working through period pain for the longest time. For some job nature which needs us to move around a lot… period pain is definitely not a pleasant “partner” to have while working. If ever we have here in Sg… I believe a lot of us will be very appreciative of that move. @sitified

    Wow, this video was really an eye-opener. As usual the couples are really funny HAHA. I feel that yes company should implement period leaves as I personally is someone who suffer from serious period pain that doesn't allow me to function or work properly. It resulted in poor work performance which can hinder the working process especially if I am working on a project with my colleagues. I am sure a boss will also agree that 101% work performance is the best and most advantageous for the company ! So once again, YES to period leaves! @sweemisu
