No it’s meant for very deep liquid mud the kind that Americans use trucks with 40+ inch tires into where the mud is basically liquid it’s a stupid pointless thing in this situation because unless it’s basically the only thing on the ground something is going to hang it up you’re never going to get enough surface area pushing against ground that is solid enough to actually do anything
@UberLummox
Жыл бұрын
@@600wheel Yeah it didn't really do much as he said. I was thinking it was more for rock crawling, but maybe I can see it helping in mud, but I wouldn't think it would help that much. Just my guess.
@600wheel

@@UberLummox it only works in the mud where it’s basically like water and it doesn’t work that well but sometimes all you need is just a tiny little bit to get you back into the traction zone again but like I said the machine has basically gotta be floating on its own tires before it really does much the guys actually find it works better when they put a propeller on the backside of the pumpkin because most of them are running military axles that have an input and output on the top of the pumpkin for the Piñon so axles can be put together in tandem or more depending on the weight you want to haul and even then the propeller doesn’t do much more than the screws but it does do something and when there’s $10,000 on the line for the first person who can make it through the hole you will try any little trick to get you a little bit more. And as far as rock crawling something like that would be known as a rock magnet if anything guys want to find ways to make their driveshaft smaller not bigger there’s no situation where something like that wouldn’t cause more problems than it’s worth you would have a great deal of added weight meaning vibration you would have a massive driveshaft that would hang up all the time and likely bend. And I’m not a guy punching a keyboard I’m a guy who was very heavily in the offloading world before I broke my back and rock crawling was what I loved trust me that wouldn’t benefit in anyway and if you think I’m wrong just go to an off-road rock crawling message board and ask those guys that question and believe me you will not get nearly as polite of an answer but you will definitely get an answer

This might be a good thing to have when mud holing. Going through a deep mud hole the blades could act like a prop to help propel you forward through the mud.
@raven4k998
Жыл бұрын
it would be good if the first did a practice without the screw to figure out a base line for the test and then where the car gets stuck they can focus on testing the blades there
once the screw clears the dirt, you have nothing left. might work in a silty river edge where everything will drop deep enough to get traction.
@600wheel
Жыл бұрын
It’s built for very deep mud bogs where the mud is basically liquid and the tires are no longer touching hard ground because the vehicle is floating that’s where the design is used it’s an old trick here in Mudbog country competition Mudbog nowhere in the real world are you going to find justification for something like that but not mind losing massive amounts of ground clearance Except maybe if you are actually loading your 4 x 4 in a lake but then the tires rotating give you forward motion this screw drive shaft has one use and one application
The main thing I like about these Ladas is that the simple design allows them to last a life time with plenty of space to work with for upgrades and maintenance hell just by looking in the engine bay pretty much every thing is easy to reach and replace when needed I wish it was possible to get one in the US.
Bigger auger threads and a locked rear end would make that thing go pretty much anywhere, also notice the differential has a lot of axial wind-up. Find a way to make the rear end not wind up so much and the auger won’t be pulling itself off the dirt so much, pillow-block bearings and support brackets perhaps? The idea is cool as hell, but quite possibly impractical 🤷🏻♂️.
It might work on hard soil. Wet soil gives no reaction force. Love it.

@raven4k998

it's to high they need the screw to be closer to the ground that way it hits more stuff when you drive it🤣
Make 2 screws where the frame rails are on both side of the car. Then it can drive like a screw tank but just be a few inches higher than the tires.
Good idea... But we need a screw with a MUCH steeper thread pitch. It looks like the screw digs in and slings stuff out of the way, rather than providing screw propulsion. Another option is a low range gear box so that the screw spins slower. A secondary concern is if the driveshaft is strong enough to support the vehicle while spinning and pulling mud out of the way...
"It's all very curious and questionable" Perfect, right up your alley. Also, seems like just add some floats and you have an amphibious car.

I wonder what twists most - the corkscrew or the Lada's weakened chassis! 😁

I say both it's a 50 50 situation the lada twists 50% and the prop shaft the other 50%🤣
Bigger screw threads close to size of rear diff to work properly so it digs a trench for the diff to slide threw, put the same style on a mud trk n works great

@@AlienLivesMatter The propeller is actually just a section of a screw the propeller was created from the screw so the propeller is the next generation after the screw going back to a screw would be going back not forward. So yes the smart guys back then we’re going how do we make this more efficient and lighter and work better and there was an idiot going add more screw and there was another guy saying no let’s make it smaller and lighter and just use a section of it. So once again who is the idiot here
How about making a metal paddle wheel which can lower to the ground for ultimate traction. Or maybe a second axle that turns with the first but a few inches off the ground that way on pavement and good roads it does not touch but mud sand the factory tires sink a bit allowing the metal paddle axle to dig in and push out out.
You must make big circle, clean and precision
Use that driveshaft on the floating car. The one with the trophy atv tires. It would add more propulsion.
The gearbox mounts are so warn the screw lifts of the ground
Ahaa! Garage 54 - We prove these things don't work, so you don't have to!😁
This really demonstrates what benefit is from 4WD/AWD drive versus RWD.
Works better with higher ground clearence pickup trucks which have no added weight in the box, help like propeller when under water
Solid! Top KEK!
It would work better if the prop shaft and rear wheels spun at the same rate...
Hey guys I think the blades need to be bigger and try to put solide motor mountings same for the transmission and the rear need to stay down too . Thanks guys love the channel 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
make the screw drive from bigger circles, angle grind away the excess weld from the outer edges of the circles, the excess weld acts like a saw which removes material, and we're supposed to go across the material, not remove it and make a super low gear for the screw drive to properly do its thing instead of throw all the material out the back.
“Battle Chariot”… lol that…going to use that phrase
I think it won't really work in the Lada because it doesn't have a transfer case with low range. So the propshaft doesn't have enough torque behind it.
@600wheel
Жыл бұрын
Pork has nothing to do with it it is a design that was made up for trucks that go into mud bog competitions where the mud is so deep the truck is now floating because of the tires in the tires aren’t touching the hard bottom the driveshaft gives you a slight amount of forward motion hoping you will gain traction again it is not something that has any real world Applications
If you put it behind the rear axle and set it up so you could push it down further and maybe lift part of the rear wheels it might work better
I noticed the wheels spin faster than the screw advances. I think the screw should be the same speed as the wheels, or maybe faster. Lowering the ratio from the differential to the wheels could improve things. You might still need to make the screw larger. The screw-driven tanks have really big screws. Trying to match the screw pitch to the one they used on the tanks might be a good idea, too.
The scariest thing I can imagine is that after a whole day of hard work, we realized the blades were in the wrong direction.
The blades obviously need to be larger.
That thing is used in mud pits where the mud is at least 5ft deep and basically liquid
Definitely has some potential. A Lada lawnmower would be cool!

theyve done that...
Now add a way to keep it afloat and try it in water!
Grt work
You should try to stretch a car widder, like the VW Lamando 5XL
even if it grabs the ground it wouldnt work on soft mud. simple physics. it needs a hard surface to get the resistance needed to push off the ground.
They just used an I've hope sugar but I like how you guys did it much more robust
"A Lada would've made it through anyway." And that's why experiments need a control Lada to compare to. :)
13:53 play it slow and you see how the prop shafts gets lifted up from the dirt as you load it up, maybe a more solid center mount for the prop so it cant flex out of the way could help?
Great sucses!
this would work better if driving over MX whoops, in this case I believe the problem is your driving in ruts which highcenters the car in an unwanted axis.
Lada submarine!
just remove the back wheels and swap them for counter rotating screws so you het a "half track" lada

That potato gun car is gonna get sent straight to the frontline.
Wonder if a treadmill skid-plate would work better.
Could u bould an electric powered lada powered by a flywheel as was used in Gyrobus from the 1950's. There is no need for batteries or an engine. Would be interesting to see how far it would drive and what the handling would be like with a big gyroscope in the car.
I think if the blades were longer and at more of an angle it'd work pretty good.
should have made the screw taper from the size in the front to twice the dia. in the rear
Man you gotta build the Mole from Thunderbirds 2 or convert a Lada to Thunderbird 4 :D
Needs to be larger. Also I would like to see it in deep snow
How about Putting floatation devices on the car and see if the screw will propel the car thru water as in , on a pond or lake?
Nothing one inch longer than things dragging will move you. The screw would have to have at least 8 inches of dig...and even then would do nothing if trying to drag the rear axle.
Pls make the screw larger in outer diameter 🤘😎
the old mans 1st mistake was not allowing one of the young bucks to drive it 1st.If there is a weak link-they will find it,,,fast.
You should try to make an electric car from a lada diy style
Imagin a cat sleep under a car with a prop shaft like that the cat go shread
DAMN I THOUGHT YOU WERE MAKING A BOAT CAR!
Mint
Turn a Lada into a boat !
Should do this with boat props and then drive through water.
I was thinking making a blower run off the drive shaft have a button you touched when you're racing the drive shaft spinning at high speed hit the button and hope for a few more pounds of boost probably not but I'd like to try it. Keep up the great work
I would still like to see you guys make a legit off road vehicle. A 4x4 something with some major agricultural type tires
Blades must be switch because when you drive forward the propeller would propell the car backward if flat on the ground the video shows that clearly this will cause that the wheels wil propell against the propeller or as we call it a auger what I suggest is the switch the blades but make it bigger and put a pillow block bearing on the propshaft because the weight is pushing it in the body and there for make this a redundant mod just a suggestion

Either way, there used to be a few factory made pick-ups which were built on the base of this model. They were called VIS-2345, there were even versions to pull semi trailers called VIS-23454.

make floats to the site of the car and make a boat of it
