I worked as Telephonist at the Portsmouth Council from 1997 to 2001, and foreigners were being put at the top of the housing list way back then. I know this for a fact. What I want to know is why each Government treats our own people like rubbish, and favours foreigners who've paid nothing into our society, gates our society, have taken our homes and jobs, and are being put in our poshest hotels for free, when our own people are homeless, including ex servicemen who put their lives on the line for us. We HAVE to take matters into our own hands before this Government sells each and every one of us to the highest bidder.

Yours is an interesting comment and makes us all realise that there are things that have gone on for years that nobody knows about. I worked for solicitors and dealt with the estates of Russian, Ukrainian, Estonian etc men who came to the UK after the last war and who eventually died here and I was astonished to find that their widows, who had never set foot in our country, were paid widow's pensions. I'll bet not many people know that either. So, this will be a further burden on our pensions system when those who entered our country illegally will start claiming pensions when British people who've spent their whole life paying into the system are presently struggling to get a triple lock pension which keeps up with the rate of inflation. We still don't know if our pensioners will get it.

Charity begins at home, it was totally appalling to say it’s their choice. They’re British homeless. I heard from a homeless person it was heartbreaking the poor woman lost her job after an accident and end up homeless with no help from the council.

We have a big problem with accommodation security in this country due to the greed of the asset-class. ''Let the market decide'' is their clarion call. Well, the market has decided that landlords, many of whom are non-UK citizens, can rake in as much as they like at the expense of a generation locked out of home ownership. The behaviours you describe are typically the way the destitute try and cope, which perpetuates the cycle. It's ruddy Victorian and it doesn't really work to employ what is effectively victim blaming of the poor, of immigrants etc.

For a mad 10 months of my life I volunteered at a homeless kitchen/shelter. Addiction/mental illness was rife. Many given homes and a chance at normality did not function well there and soon returned to the streets. Sad but for many it seems to be unfixable and in effect a lifestyle 'choice'.

I've seen interviews with immigrants who said they wanted to stay camped out, they were very happy about their situation and all the handouts and charity they get as a result

A homeless man who lives in a shop door of an old Poundland shop in the High Street was offered by a charity shop a new duvet as his is all split an overcoat and new shoes etc but he turned them down. So some dont want help of any description. The doorway looks a mess with all his rubbish. Surprised he is still allowed to be there as has been months.

We need a government and a pm that's put this country and it's people first but looking at what's on offer then there is nothing on the horizon. She's right there ... was a guy near us that was camped out side asda, every night he would zip up he's tent, then go back to he's flat in the morning he would return, waiting for people to give him money and food, we got chatting, he told us he was making about 100 to 150 in cash a day plus free food

There are plenty like that too.

You can't tarnish all of these people with the same brush...yes some people are addicted to class A drugs and wont be housed by the YMCA because of a violent history...however there are many who are not anti-social or addicts yet they have fallen on hard times because of the ever increasing cost of living...lets show some compassion instead of judgment 🤔

@@2010LeeG No country that has tried it, has managed to make it work successfully. Social credit? As in China's socialist model?

Some of them in my local town want to sleep rough and in tents, not sure of circumstances obviously, but councils do not have the houses / space to house them.

when a government takes away its peoples last refuge(sleeping in a car or tent) that government assigns itself a condition of ENEMY to the people. it is the home secretary's responsibility to get sufficient housing built, she failed in her duty and projects and blames this on people who do not have a home.

The most annoying thing for us in the UK , Is we have people sleeping rough , people needing help , yet we keep letting the boats come here and this is the same Suella that promised to stop the boats , to make laws where we will send people back quicker than they get here , And the same Promise from Sunak in his speech at the Torie Conference ! and what has he done ? Nothing ! It lets us see what they think of the UK Citizen , We all know some people will like to sleep rough and we should have some place to accomodate this but we should have sanitation for them ,

I agree with this lady on this particular homeless issue. I can't believe that most homeless people are doing it from choice who would want to do that there are no homes. But I agree the lack of housing is to do with immigration.

Did she say 'most'? She said 'some' and due to the job I do I know for a fact that some people don't want the restriction of living indoors, in a room/flat. They want to be able to chose where they live (who could afford central London if they had to pay!)

@@christabelleblue9901 Well if there are hardly any then why is she even bothering to give it her attention and state it publicly. If you are homeless anyway you might choose central London because of the rich folks but you wouldn't choose the homelessness itself. Imagine living in a tent right now.
