My father always said that wood heat warms you three times. Once, when you cut the tree down, once, when you stack the firewood, and once in your woodstove. But I always added a fourth time when you had to clean the ashes out of the wood box, lol.

Take a look at wood turning blanks, pen turning blanks and knife scales. That 1 slice of chestnut is worth more than what you paid for the full log to the right people. The amount of chestnut, oak and fruit trees that you mill would make you a nice little piece of pocket money. ( pen blank is less than 1" square about 5’ long and worth over £1 each now). Great show again love see Budo grafting away.

PS to make with the chestnut cut wood: Planks for the floors of your home, birdhouses, cutting blocks, some type of funky coffee table, and maybe a treated flower box or a tea tray. over and out. ps for your coughs, put some eucalyptus in a pot of boiling water for about an hour. It is the main ingredient in all cough syrups and cough drops.

Hi Budo n' Tracy. That's beautiful Chestnut. I can't believe how little you had to pay for it, lucky you, especially if you're able to get more at a later date. I have a vision of kitchen cupboards made from it. It's a beautiful grain. Though I guess that as you'll want to be getting on with the the kitchen build you won't want to wait for the planks to season. The chainsaw and splitter look like great peices of kit. I always look forward to your videos. Top quality. I don't think it'll be long before Tracy will be using the splitter herself.👍

Gorgeous grain on the chestnut planks. While very useful, that upright splitter will become a back pain, literally, if you plan to do a lot of firewood. I went with a horizontal electric 7 ton splitter that is fantastic. We set up a 'starter' table for the logs, the splitter is on a raised table with wheels, and split wood immediately goes into a trailer on the other side to haul to the woodshed or keep them at arm height for stacking depending on where we set up. Almost no bending. With age, we've learned to work smarter, not harder.

Beautiful grain on the wood. Chopping boards would be good, flooring, but tables would be nice so you can sit there and admire it! I once saw a picture of a console table for a hallway with the live edge facing outwards, all polished. Looked fantastic! Our whole family has had this bug over Christmas. The kids have shaken it off much sooner but in our sixties now, it's still lingering on. Just at the occasional tickly cough stage now. Looking forward to seeing the kitchen progress when weather and health permits. Get well soon.

Actually once you have cut the first slab off the log you now have a flat surface on which the chainsaw can ride for subsequent cuts. There is no real need to use the ladder as a guide afterwards unless of course you want to. Eliminating the ladder gives you a bit more stability as the slide a chain are now closer together.
@FrenchFarmhouseDiaries
3 ай бұрын
Hi I keep the ladder on because there's less friction so the saw moves through much quicker as you only have contact with the 1 inch ladder runs either side because if you are directly on the log and it's wet and sappy it's slows you right down you should give it a go William you will be amazed at the difference buddy 😉

Yes, it is! Very beautiful and Budo is fortunate he can make wonderful things with it as well 😊
That’s one down, can see a lot of rings on the log. How many you reckon you’ll get Budo? Oh wow is right, am picturing it already with your homemade oils on it, beautiful and rich!

Budo reckons about 8-10 planks Ina and yes so can we 🙏🏻🥰
Absolutely beautiful. I would love to see a table made with live edge. Either a large rustic refectory table or a coffee table. But as Tracey said it would make a spectacular floor, maybe for your dining room if you can get more of it.❤

Sounds great! Both your suggestions thank you 😊 xx
I’m two weeks behind but catching up. A nice island top for the kitchen or work area top would be nice. 🇨🇦

Hey mate that would be magnificent but it would have to be from 2 inch stock and I would need to wait 2 years for them to air dry 😉 but great idea thank you
Kitchen units look nice can you please tell me what your dog breed is well done 👍
