We Remade Our Worst Video!-Fish Scale Handle Wrap

A lot of viewers expressed frustration over our old version of this tutorial. We wanted to redo it and present things in a clearer way. The fish scale braid is one of the best paracord handle wraps. It holds in place and grips the handle well. It works best on round handles, but also works on flatter oval-shaped handles.

Had to fix a retirement gift I bought for someone in the Marines, they sent me the wrong color combination on the handle and with not much time left, didn't have time for them to remake. This video made lacing from a noob who had never done it ever before look like a professional did it. It looks actually bad ass, and now I have acquired newfound knowledge and skills that I can recreate!

How do you add more cord if it's necessary or the length of cord you start with doesn't fit the length of the knife handle? Thank you

That HF survival knife, with handle embellishment, makes a nice Xmas gift for that uncle for whom you can't think of anything more appropriate. If nothing else, he'll enjoy showing it off. A client has commissioned a number of them for the coming holiday.

I just braided a knife handle and want to know how to tighten it. I did the braid loose to get the fid through easily. I will try going back to the start and tighten all the loops individually. Should from the start it all be tight? I'm thinking after every several rows to tighten it up, do several more rows tighten it up, etc., to the entire length. Is there a preferred way?

Can this handle wrap be done on a CRKT Sting? The handle from the butt end gets wider, then skinnier then wider one more time before getting to it's widest point prior to becoming the blade of the dagger. Or must this be done on a constant diameter handle? Also, the Sting is somewhat flat on two sides, not round where you grip it.

I'm watching and wondering myself. I'm guessing that it slides because there isn't anything to cause friction. Was going to wrap my walking stick this way but might not now.

You don't need a fid. You need a lacing needle. Otherwise, thanks for fixing the previous iteration of this tutorial!

Yeah, the term fid has become a little hazy in modern times. Depending on who you ask, fids can be anything from a screw-on needle like the one we use in this video, to the classic awl type of tool used to spice large ropes.

  • @ParacordPlanet

It would be tricky on an absolutely flat handle, though I haven't tried it. A handle with an oval cross section would work fine.
