    Breaking my ankle almost 3 months ago gave me a reality check! Living alone on a property farther out is a bad idea now, especially with livestock to feed regularly. I'll have to compromise with my backyard apartment and will do the best I can to prep. My extended family and friends do not agree with even this and think I should move back into the main city. VERY important to stay fit, healthy and self-reliant during this time.

    I can really relate, I shattered my ankle and really couldn't get around for a long time!! But I lived in a city then! Now I live on a remote farm myself and have fallen a few times. If I was you, I'd stay in the country. Get someone into help with the chores why you are on the mend. Best of luck!

    In addition to everything you mentioned, I just watched a video from Suttons Daze stating we are 135 days away from the US election which unfortunately, could result in civil disturbances in larger towns and cities. No matter where we turn, there are events and situations that are going to affect our access to food and supplies. We can get through these times by getting ourselves prepared now. My commuter train once dumped us all off at the closest station due to frozen 🥶 tracks with sleet and snow falling. They said they would provide buses to take us the rest of the way. Wear winter gear and waiting 30 minutes with no bus in sight, I decided to walk to the station where my husband was picking me up. Luckily I met him 1/2 way. We offered the people walking with us a ride, which a few accepted. He dropped me home, got me settled and went back out to help others, he drove a 4 wheel drive Jeep CJ-7 with a V-8 and was an expert driver. He ended up at the hospital taking nurses and doctors home and picking up new ones. My point is always be prepared to walk home even if you take a train or bus to work.

    SE MI, day 6 of 90 degree plus heat. Wednesday a threeish square block area including us got hit with 70 mph straight line winds. I have never in my 50+ years seen damage like that, there were trees on houses. The next day we got three inches of rain in an hour. We are waiting for another system this evening. Something to note. The next morning we (my family) were out cleaning up, shoring up damage, a few downspouts etc (Our house was fine). We are here four days later, only one neighbor (they had a tree land of their roof) has done any other remediation. There are literally trees and debris like the day it happened everywhere. Telling. We are adding plywood for our shelter area windows to our preparedness plan, not sure how we missed that. Thank you for another spot of video. Be safe City Prepping community.

    I just drove from St. Louis to Kansas City, as I have done frequently throughout my lifetime. I'd estimate that 80% of the farm fields that are normally growing corn or other crops, are now completely barren. Almost all of these fields are not even growing grass for hay as is the norm when not planting crops. This revelation is confirming the "conspiratorial" evidence that I had read about some years ago. It's not looking good for our future.

  • @treenhare

    @treenhare

    Ай бұрын

    Growing hay in crop fields is not the "norm". Maybe it is fallow for planting later? Silage is grown in crop fields but that's not "hay". We own brome and native prairie hay fields for baling, native pasture for grazing, and crop land. It takes roughly 2 years for a hay field to establish a good root structure, we're not planting hay one season and then planting wheat or corn etc the next. Crops are rotated, and sometimes fields are left fallow or have a cover crop that gets tilled in or dead sprayed (yuck-not my choosing) for no till. We currently have a fallow field waiting for winter wheat.

    I actually study infectious diseases professionally, and avian influenza and Covid specifically. With H5N1 in cattle, wild mice, many more species of birds, and over 50 species of mammals, we're far closer to a re-do of the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic than ever before. In other people around the world who have been infected with H5N1, the mortality rate has been 52%. It's a good idea for all of us to pay attention and prepare.

    Be careful Kris, be VERY careful.... I appreciate that when you are surrounded by prepper channels that are all losing their shit and screaming "the end of the world is nigh", its hard not to get swept up in it. But in 1798 Malthus predicted that the world would collapse in famine because of overpopulation but here we are 200 years later facing depopulation. I have been a prepper for decades and it has served me well, but disasters always T-boned me, and they never came from the direction I expected. I have no doubt that we are in precarious times, and we all SHOULD prepare for the worst, but this is what preppers do, and this is what your audience has always done. People will prepare according to their own levels of will and ability. Scaring them will not help: Telling people they need to run at 30mph to escape the potential storm might be factual, but it is not helpful, they can only run as fast as they can run, and you don't know for a fact that there WILL be a storm I have no doubt that we are living in times just as dangerous as the Cuban missile crisis, but if I have learned anything over my lifetime it is this: 99% of the time it does not end up with the destruction of your country 1% of the time you might have to provide your own food, water and power. 100% of the time we have not engaged in nuclear Armageddon because leaders want power, not radioactive rubble. I dont mean to downplay the multitudinous threats facing us. But as people trying to live a free life, right now, most of those threats are domestic in origin. Just be cautious about how you centre yourself in the coming times. I also suspect that your new business enterprises has inserted you into a cauldron of highly motivated preppers, and this has coloured your perceptions. I guess this is all a polite way of saying, dont get sucked into the ways of Canadian Prepper and Full Spectrum Survival. They trade and profit in fear. Motivate people, dont scare people, however scared you might personally be. All the best Kris.
