Steppenwolf was a Canadian-American rock band from 1968 to 1972. Their biggest hits were "Born To Be Wild", "Magic Carpet Ride" & "Rock Me" but other songs are "Straight Shootin’ Woman", "Hey Lawdy Mama", "Who Needs Ya", "Move Over", "Monster" etc. Both of their songs "Born To Be Wild" & "The Pusher" were used prominently in the 1969 cult film "Easy Rider".

This was my song.I was 14 and ready for a change in my music. This one did it."Magic Carpet Ride." by what Ed Sullivan called the long haired rock and rollers Steppenwolf.John Kay was the coolest cat with those sunglasses. Didn't know at the time he was visually impaired. To me he was just Cool. A little "Crystal Blue Persuasion" and "Magic Carpet Ride" was a musical high.Still to this day.

This is Psychedelic Rock from back in the day when we were all Turning on - Tuning in and Dropping out. LSD was BIG and was everywhere. Personally, I was too afraid to try it because when I got buzzed, I liked the Earth to remain the Earth and didn't want to see what my friends told me that they were seeing. I figured that there was too much lumber in my head that could turn on me and cause a "bad trip". However, the music was great! Try listening to The Chambers Brothers "Time Has Come Today" or The Strawberry Alarm Clock "Incense and Peppermints".

Truly one of the great bands of all time. Everybody fives lack Sabbath the 1st heavy metal band but personally I think Steppenwolf was the 1st heavy Metal band. Their sound was much harder and heavier than the rest in those days. One of my fav. bands. The singer always wore those sunglasses because he had issues with his eyes. One of the most unique and recognizable voices around.

Steppenwolf took their name from a 1927 novel by Hermann Hesse in which a middle aged man stuck in an existential crisis goes on several mind bending adventures with two young women he met by happenstance who attempt to help him get his groove back so to speak. When you're ready for more late sixties psychedelic rock of this sort, check out some of these classics -- Iron Butterfly "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida", The Chambers Brothers "Time Has Come Today", Harry Nilsson "Jump into the Fire", Blue Cheer "Peace Of Mind", Strawberry Alarm Clock "Rainy Day Mushroom Pillow", Fever Tree "San Francisco Girls", Jefferson Airplane "Won't You Try/Saturday Afternoon", Fairport Convention "Who Knows Where The Time Goes?", Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac "The Green Manalishi", The Turtles "You Showed Me", Donovan "Wear Your Love Like Heaven", Susan Christie "Paint A Lady", and Spirit "I Got A Line On You" along with many others.

There's so much to explore, "Ride With Me", "Sookie, Sookie", "Jupiter's Child", "It's Never Too Late", "Snowblind Friend" and "For Ladies Only", to name just a few.
