Then go abroad mate. It's what I had to do for some quite severe dental work. I went to a dentist in Gdansk, Poland. I could fly there with all the ensuing costs of fuel used, car parking, hotel stay overnight in UK, flight, accommodation in Gdansk, food whilst there and then the dental work. I still ended up with change from what I would have to pay private here in the UK and I've had five great holidays in a beautiful city and enjoyed dental professionals at least as good as anything you can find here and in many ways better because no trouble is too much effort for them, they speak English and want to get the job done right in immaculate practice offices with the latest hi tech doodads. Can highly recommend it.

I needed a doctor in the UK and it took a month to see one. When the same thing started to happen again, this time over a potentially serious condition, I got on a plane, flew to Australia, had two GP appointments, blood tests, results, an appointment with a specialist and an ultrasound scan and the results back all within a week... and then I got a message from the surgery back in London that the GP would call me the following week! It's insane how much it's gone down in England.

You dont need luck with conscription, if you're drafted you have no choice, but you need luck to avoid the draft if you cant pull strings.

@@john-xo9mg If you had guts you wouldn't need to be conscripted in the first place. If you mean the choice of dodging the draft, it's not much of a choice. In wartime military prisons have to be harsh, if they were holiday camps like today's civilian prisons they'd be overflowing with draft dodgers and similar insubordinate soldiers.

The government wants to pay it's current soldiers a decent wage first ,when is it possible you get paid more for kicking a football around a pitch than pointing a weapon at an enemy ? The way this country is run I don't blame people for not wanting to defend it.

No they didn't. They just introduced a gun licence, and barred certain types of weapons from civilian use. Manually-cycled rifles in anything up to 50 cal are legal in the UK, for example, meaning you can own a destructive weapon, legally, if you have the license for it. Americans don't seem to have a problem with the idea of a driving license to drive a car, why are some of them so opposed to the idea of having a license to own a tool whose only primary objective is to cause lethal levels of force? It's so immature.

So in reality a group of Americans armed with hand guns and hunting riffles, would not last 5 mins against a brigade of Russian soldiers. There is a lot more to fighting than just having a gun, this is why nations spend billions and decades training armies. A group of civilians with guns would be quite useless. Ask any US general, and they will tell you this.

From an ex British Army Officer, I would have to say....what country! Britian is no more, it's just doesn't exist.😢

If London gets hit by a nuclear ICBM it is gonna be a real bad day for sure. As for communications you can buy a little radio AM/FM shortwave. If your batteries are dead there is a crank on the side to generate your own power and it even has a bright light to see with all for $30 or so. Also, get some dehydrated food. I just recently discovered mice have eaten most of mine. A woman told me once that without air conditioning and cellphones she wouldn't even want to live. That's about the dumbest thing I ever heard anyone say.

At the end of the day, Britain's foreign policy has been, since the days of Elizabeth I or probably earlier: to weaken or destroy any continental power which could invade our island. That's why Britain fought for centuries with Spain, until it succeeded in breaking apart its Empire by supporting the independence of Latin American countries. Britain also succeeded in defeating Napoleon, with the help of Russia and Prussia (Germany). The Second Reich which threatened to surpass the British Empire in economic and military might, was dealt with with the help of France, and especially, the USA. In WWII, the Third Reich was destroyed with Soviet and American help (even though the man in charge was an anglophile who wanted an anti-Communist alliance with the UK). Now the "enemy" is Russia, which is too far away to pose a serious threat to Britain's independence because it can't invade the island or cut the sea lanes. NATO leaders expected Ukraine to win the war against Russia and impose peace on Zelensky's terms, and they spent two years arming Ukraine instead of raising armies and arming themselves. But Zelensky's armies are suffering setbacks and it appears to be too late to rearm. That's why it is important to ask the question: If armies are raised and sent to fight in Europe to defend Poland or the Baltics, for example, doesn't the risk outweigh the benefit? Because this risk is called nuclear war. I believe nuclear weapons, paradoxically, have forced everyone, the US, NATO and even Russia, to act rationally and avoid an escalation, because otherwise we would already be in WWIII and more people would have died in that war than those who have already died in Ukraine.

We can’t take up arms, the government won’t let us. Due to this, there is no prospect of preparatory training. Food, water, torch, what about a radio? Ofcom will come knocking because you’re not a ham radio licence holder. The country’s a joke, if pushed, it would capitulate
