When you've experienced life enough, had relationships enough AND you're EQ and IQ is high enough, you can have a fairly accurate grasp of a person's character, their feelings even if it was just for 7 mins. Armed with all that I've said previously, it's just a matter of observation and common sense.

Not having problems but voicing your problems early in a relationship. It's the key to making it work. Always br engaging even in the negative things you dont want to talk about. Blowing something off just because you love someone or think you will hurt them will just create massive pressure till eventually it boils over later on.

I feel like everyone is completely missing one of the biggest issues in the relationship that was stated at the start that they have by their own admission, irreconcilable political, lifestyle, career differences. Just shooting a shot in the dark based on what they said but he seems like someone ready to settle down, have a good career, a family, etc, and she wants to be like a political activist, doesnt mind being poor, doesnt have tine for kids and a house. Its pretty clear at least his dad is likely very conservative, so he is likely at best 'apathetic' to her political causes. He dodged a bullet tbh

Nah I disagree.. It may take a little time to get that trust back going, but most women don't leave due to cheating or "possible cheating". She found someone that she deems stronger, and its obvious that she's getting more enjoyment from this while the guy is clearly in pain. So, whether a man cheats or not is mostly irrelevant when it cones to longterm. It isn't until a woman sees her man as weak that her feelings change..

@@amkolar They're married, living in a trailer, he's working hard at securing their (financial) future like a typical male, and she doesn't want to help him out, bearing in mind this is probably a typical hypergamous relationship, that doesn't sound like she's a nice person. Like the saying goes: women don't care about your struggles, they wait at the finish line and pick the winners. (Marriage is team work, especially if you're not wealthy and can't afford to loaf and maintain a decent lifestyle) - she was so bitter about helping him out that she had to divorce him. He came clean about considering tag-n-releasing when they were dating prior to their marriage, but she has not forgiven him about it, and goes on about having high virtues. She forgets that the chap declined the fling because he felt horrible, meaning he passed the litmus test, but she still grinds him about it, as if he did mess around. She 'had it in her mind that he was going to cheat on him at some stage in their relationship' - well, he didn't, yet she held him in contempt for it just in case he did do it. He was guilty of cheating in her mind, she was just waiting for confirmation which never came. She loved him more in the beginning, when he tried to break up a few times... There is something wrong/incompatible in their relationship for him to want to break up - we don't know what it is, but must be significant, even his dad dislikes her. She comes across as chirpy and easy to laugh, but that would be judging a book by its cover - she grew up, believed she could be independent and went for divorce, yet sleeps with him occasionally. Something not right about the whole process there. He still speaks endearingly about her, so I think if they saw a pro about their problems, they would find a way to stay together, as most couple do. Divorce seems over the top from the short clip.

Very different circumstances but the feel of this conversation hit close to home. My ex and I got along famously but I was always the one more invested in our relationship, doing what was needed to make it work. 8 years in, married, he hit rock bottom in his struggle with depression and things got real honest. He told me straight up that I loved him more than he loved me, but that he needed me more than I needed him. I really did love him though and we got past it. 12 years in, doing a lot better with his mental health, he told me that he'd fallen in love with a friend of his. That it was a done deal and they were going to start a relationship... but he still wanted me to stay anyways. Say what? I asked for a few days to think it over, but finally decided that although I wished him well I couldn't stay. Too many lies, too many secrets, too many years of trying that ultimately counted for nothing. So I let him go. Four months later things fell through with his new love and he wanted me back. He missed me. His life was empty now. But although I still wished him well I just had nothing left to give anymore. My love was exhausted. Four years later and I'm doing alright with my own life now, but I don't think he's ever really moved on. And it's sad. Tldr - value what you have (and who you have) when you have it. I don't regret my marriage, and I don't regret my choice to leave it when he no longer valued me the way I valued myself. But still, having loved and lost is a bittersweet thing. Update, 2023: Been 6 years now since my marriage ended and I remembered this post. Thanks to anyone who replied or showed interest in how I was doing. So here it is - left to my own devices for the first time in my adult life, I stayed single for several years and chased dreams that I had always had. I grew a beautiful garden, I traveled internationally, I finally learned how to ride a motorcycle... and loved it so much that I sold my car in favor of riding full time, lol. Eventually I dated a little but finally decided to just live my best life and meet someone naturally. And I did. One day I happened to meet an incredibly lovely, caring, smart man, and we've been together now for over a year, and it's been really real and special. Life is good, and I'm just appreciating every minute.

Yeah he probably still loves her and does want to get back together, but their priorities and life goals are so different that separating is probably for the better

@@Mel7eds I can understand that, but in general I feel most people break up for such small reasons, if they say back down and chatted about it, they could be civil again. Idk, I definitely get what you’re saying though.

@@halifaxdarkrecords1548 for me it‘s not about being hurt but still loving that person even though they have moved on. Thats why i can‘t be friends although i‘d want to, but it just wouldn‘t be healthy. Maybe someday in the future...
