We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story - Ending

Фильм және анимация

The most out of place ending in a children's movie you'll ever see. Seriously, what did they think this was, Watership Down?

I love the symbolism in this scene. Screweyes spent so much time scaring others as a weapon, and now that there was no one left, the only one left to scare was himself. He becomes covered in birds like a Scarecrow, then silently disappears, consumed by his own fear. 10/10.

Birds seems to be one of the themes the movie: Rex is telling this story to a bird, the dinosaur Rex is chasing in the beginning has feathers, Elsa flies and I think technically not a dinosaur(?), this takes place on Thanksgiving and they use the parade to disguise themselves, Cecilias last name is 'Nuthatch' and finally as you mentioned Screweyes is consumed by the crows(modern dinosaurs) If that makes sense.

@BigDogJang0 In a deleted scene he goes into great detail about how his worst fear is crows, and that's why he uses them in his act. This way, the crows are under his control. Also, his job at the circus is to frighten other people, showing how he even controls fear itself! But then, the circus is shut down. The people leave. Even the acts leave, excluding the crows. Suddenly, he realizes he is just a lonely and frightened man, with no real control, and he is consumed by his own fears.

This is some kind of horrifying metaphor, but I still can't figure out what for. Was he consumed by loneliness for refusing to amend his ways? Did he embrace a path of fear and loss and suffer the inevitable fate it begets? Did the writers just want to scar some snot-nosed kids? History may never know. For some reason, the part I always found most chilling was the crow blowing out the screw. Like Screweyes' life essence still existed in it and he still had the potential to return, and it was just casually, effortlessly snuffed out.

Deleted scene shows that screweyes suffered trauma as a child when a berry fell in his eye and a crow swooped down and pecked it out. That's why he keeps crows around, so he can master his fear, or PTSD Dude has PTSD which he medicates by traumatizing other people. Which has corroded his soul and morality. And isolated him from love and family. In the end he is consumed and destroyed by his deepest fears. Pretty edgy for a kids film, shame they deleted his backstory.

Scary effects, letting your fears get too out of hand, and eventually look real. Then love and compassion save the day, with a flying saucer! I think what makes this so effective and unsettling is the complete lack of a soundtrack. They could've had some victorious music playing, to make it feel more like a karmic fate, or maybe something more action packed to make it feel "cool and edgy". Instead, there is no soundtrack, just the reverberation of every single sound to emphasize Screweye's isolation.

I think I’ve figured out the meaning behind this scene, basically Screweyes here gets a heart attack(being consumed by fear) once he sees the crows coming at him, then once dropped dead, the crows peck his screw eye out, and the green aura coming out of it is his “soul/consciousness” being then “sniffed out”. Anything after 0:36 is just an artistic representation of what I’ve just said. Guess the reason they did this is that it would’ve been anticlimactic or confusing to just see him drop backwards dead, so instead they went for something way more ominous and creepy (I think it is for the best since this is the only scene I recall of the movie).

I don't think Screweyes died here, I think he just pulled off a very extraordinary magic trick and exited the stage. He wasn't alone; he still had a huge audience watching him, as seen in the last shot before the dinosaurs and their friends are taken up in the spaceship.

But if you take a closer look the entire stage leave empty, the echoing of Screweyes voice, how you can only hear crow’s flutter, that sepulcral noise, all of that indicates he stayed alone and clearly he said no more people to scare so even when people leaving detail is not there it is implied so probably Screweyes “died”. Unfortunately no sequel no conclusion for Screweyes ark so he propably ended here.

After reading comments and thinking things over, I believe here is what his disappearance or death means. Professor Screwloose wanted to be the embodiment of Fear. Not just for the joy of entertainment but the power it gave him over his brother, the people he terrorized, and his own fear of the crows. Which meant a bunch of them made that a “Murder of Crows”. But as the old saying goes, “there is nothing to fear but fear itself.” So when everyone faced their fears, Professor Screwloose was no longer Fear itself while literally became nothing by his own fear. Really beautiful and poetic!

I somewhat felt like those crows purposely did it to set off a chain reaction to get some benifets in the end. what makes it sadder is that his brother has a time machine and could prevent his path to villainy from happening but didnt and could see when/how his brother could had died but didnt even save his own brother in the end.

Been thinking about this a lot lately. Surprised to find this scene randomly on my recommended without ever having searched for it too, very coincidental… Had my own confrontation with darkness in a psychotic breakdown that left me institutionalized for a couple weeks. I’ve become Christian afterwards and mostly healed from the symptoms of my collapse but I’m still haunted by what happened. I think one of the most notable changes in me is that I’m afraid of the dark now, instead of reveling in it like I did before. This scene resonates strongly with me. The idea of my own fears consuming me again, but this time permanently, is a mortifying concept. It’s something that sobers me whenever I think of leaving the God that pulled me out of the dark. Praise be to Yahweh.

@@alexinfinite7142 Here goes. I remember in the dream i was at least eleven years old, over five feet tall, wearing a black T-shirt, a black hoodie jacket, blue jean pants, black boots. I had long, shoulder length blonde hair that was straight and really thick. Had it parted down the middle. It started off with Rex, Woog, Dweeb, Elsa, Louie, Cecilia, Neweyes and Juliet learning that there was a kid reported missing and I was that kid. One day, they're out in New York City but bump into me as they recognized me. They wondered why I went missing as they figured that a police officer could help but I was afraid as I told them "It's no use. He'll find me anyway" which they were left to wonder what I was afraid of. Rex and Elsa were the first two that comforted me as they reassured me that they'll make sure nothing bad will happen to me which they offer to take me to the museum and figure things out. I felt a sense of comfort knowing that. We try to head back to the museum but we got lost on the way and I was trying to advise them that we need to avoid being seen which everytime they told me that no one is afraid of Rex or his dinosaur friends. I'd respond "It's not the dinosaurs being seen that's worrying me" which they were left curious to what I really meant. That's when an idea came to mind and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade was going on as I figured we'd be in disguise with the dinosaurs wearing wigs and sunglasses and even though the disguises work. They see me riding on top of Rex's head like I was riding a horse. Some kids would be like "Look at that kid, he's riding a dinosaur" or "He's riding a dinosaur. That's so cool" or "Look how cool he is riding a dinosaur" I was blushing at first from the attention but then someone was playing music during the parade and Rex has an idea to give me a confidence boost as he whispers his plan to me which left me excited and I'd say to those playing the music "Hit it, boys" and the Disney's version to "Mambo Number 5" was playing as me and Rex were singing and dancing to the song and we were really good singers. I'd at times take off my cowboy hat cry out "Yeeehaaaaw!" But when the song was close to ending. A gun shot was heard and it caused everyone to panic and run. I got lost in the crowd and that's when Rex and the gang were trying to get to me but we lost our way to each other as I told them "Meet me at Central Park" But once I was at Central Park, I began to cough uncontrollably and I coughed up blood as I panicked and said "It's getting worse" and a mysterious man in a black suit and a metal mask shown up as I lost consciousness. Rex, Elsa, Woog, Dweeb, Cecilia and Louie arrive and find me in a dark tent, laying on the ground, my hair turned grey, my face covered in wrinkles and they're shocked to see me this way till the mysterious man came out and revealed he given me something to do this to me. They demanded to change me back but he told them he'll do it if they allow him to experiment on the dinosaurs. They could see I was dying and Rex complied as he didn't want me to die. So the man gives me the antidote to to cure me of what he did to me. Everyone else is than knocked out. It was morning, and I woke up with Cecilia, Louie and Stubbs which they start to ask me why I ran off and went missing. I told them that I ran off because my dad who was believed to have died in prison faked his death, escaped and was after me as I was the one who ratted him out to the police. When I learned he was still alive and escaped. I ran to prevent anyone else from getting hurt. And that I told them "If only my older brother was here" which they wondered why. I explained to them my brother was eighteen years older than me and that one day I had gone blind. But my older brother died in an accident but his last wish was to have his eyes removed and surgically implanted into me so I could finally be able to see. They understood my older brother and I were very close and he given me the gift of sight before he died. They understood the trauma I went through and that I needed comfort and a hug. Which of course I got stoic and told them "Time to stop this madman" I went to stop the masked man and I confronted him when he was doing a scary performance in front of a terrified audience. We had a standoff and fight each other like martial arts masters. But then I cracked his mask off and he was revealed to be my abusive father. Just when I got the upper hand on him. I was about to take him out but Rex and the gang told me not to as it would only make me like him. Which that convinced me to stop. Neweyes shown up with his ship and was offering if my dad would go quietly but my dad refused. Then me, Rex, Woog, Dweeb, Elsa, Louie, Cecilia and Neweyes left on the ship and my father was left alone in the dark as he got covered in crows but once they flew off. The only thing left of my father was his clothes laying down on the ground. We arrive at the Museum of Natural History where my mom was waiting for me. We were reunited and for some reason. I overcame my shyness and became more of a confident guy. My mother was glad I was alright while we believed that it was the good lord's doing by sending Rex and the gang to find me and help out. Then days later. I arrived at the museum as there were new kids checking out the dinosaurs. Me, Louie, Cecilia, Neweyes and Juliet were at and even as I was there, interacting with the dinosaurs and other kids. They saw my shyness was gone. Yet Elsa hugged me and smooched me on the lips which was my first kiss. The kids were amazed as they were like "He got kissed by a dinosaur" which later on after that. I was no longer a shy guy as I uttered "Considered my world rocked like rock and roll" Buster was told about my story and once Buster was returned to his family. His brothers were teasing him but I kindly told Buster's siblings "Does your mother have ground you three?" and his brothers stopped teasing him as they realized they should stop teasing Buster from now on. In the end. I gained new friends, even if they're dinosaurs. I know that's a lot to see but that's just how I remember the dream went.

According to information, this film is an adaptation of a 1987 book whose title is the same as the film and was written by Hudson Talbott. The film was also produced by Steven Spielberg (among others), although in this scene (0:17-0:54) it seems like they invited Stephen King... Seriously, how many kids were terrified after that? And keep in mind at the 85 Disney premiere of "The Black Cauldron" and in one of the test versions, the children who saw it came out screaming. And this movie was released in '93. And I always thought that this was one of Don Bluth, the one who made movies where it didn't matter if you were a baby Dinosaur, a Widow Mouse or a Toaster. something wanted to kill you or make you afraid of it. And he also made "Dragon's Lair (1983)", the BEST VIDEO GAME OF HUMANITY and anyone who disagrees has every right to be wrong.

The magical dissapearance is in fact mostly symbolic; he is indeed eaten by the crows - and it is indeed a non-violent excuse. It means something though, it means that one may indeed fool oneself into believing that one is fearless, but sooner or later one cannot run from oneself anymore - Professor Screweyes used fear to defend against his own fear, he never truly vanquished it or cured himself of it. Thus, when he lost his circus, his fear came back too strongly and thereby consumed him.
