We’re All to Blame For the Bigotry Spreading in India But the South is Beacon of Hope-Shashi Tharoor

Support The Interview with Karan Thapar - fij.mojo.page/support-the-int...
#karanthapar #shashitharoor #interview #75yearsofindependence
In an interview on what 75 years of Independence means for India, the author, historian and Congress MP, Shashi Tharoor, has said we are all to collectively blame for the bigotry and polarization that is spreading in the country but South India could be a beacon of hope for the future. However, Shashi Tharoor believes and hopes that Prime Minister Modi could step-in and reverse this trend towards majoritarianism and Hindutva nationalism if he realizes that he can win elections without policies that polarize the country. Mr. Tharoor argues that Mr. Modi’s handling of the Nupur Sharma episode gives him reason for hope.

Wonderful Interview! I live in Chennai, we (In TN) never discussed anything about other persons religion or cost. We all work together and look for the future and growth. I am sure, very soon, the whole India will see the same way and build the great country! Cost and religion can be, if needed, used for choosing a life partner. It is my own personal preference.

As a multicultural, multiethnic society, India has reached a privileged viewpoint on human relations. I hope that Indians get to understand the phase of humanity, at the edge of space exploration. Most dominant nations have been mono ethnic and mono culture societies. India´s rise would be a definite plus for the entire human race, as we reach the physical limits of earth´s carrying capacity. India needs further economic development. It is the only way to defeat the terrible legacy of caste and poverty. India must invest on its youth, its most valuable resource. Failing to do so will open a whole lot of opportunities for India´s enemies to destroy it.

South Indians were not want to be part of India during the time of our independence but fortunately all gone perfect due to MAHATMA GANDHI and Congress's great people that comprises of Pandit Nehru and etc. They believed them and did not make any big issue and Tamil Nadu formally giveup seperate nation during the time of china war to safeguard our country's interests. Do you know that a statue of ezhuthachan widely acclaimed as the father of malayalam is left to rot bcoz Islamists don't allow it where they are in power in kerala ? Does he remember how a lecturer lost his hand for mention of the prophet name in some question paper ? Rushdie maynot be a friend of both these worthies holding lofty ideals in front of people but they want to castigate Nupur and the entire society for simply dismissing their amar akbar fancy stories. No wonder people choose bigotry and Tharoor deserves an applause for admitting everyone including him is responsible

Enjoyed this conversation, a very good interview, a few points 1. Enjoyed the fact that both the gentleman are generally Congress supporters, but still spoke both about good and bad of Nehru 2. India has changed, people have become more orthodox on their religious beliefs because of local and international events, but you can’t compare the fact with Amar Akbar Anthony which is purely fiction against a Kashmir Files. Bottom line, if countries like US/UK had same population and multi religion population like India, they would be worse off than India and would not be able to manage the county. So kudos to India to manage the country it has and should be proud of it.

@Hearts N Eyes OpenWide Eyes OpenWide Lol...none of your fear mongering and NYT and WaPo style propaganda is working in India. Perhaps it's time to assess why? People are tired of the hypocrisy of the Congress and the so called left-leaning ecosystem. The right-wing ecosystem is exploiting this. Best examples are Shah Bano case, genocide of Kashmiri Pandits, etc. When people are questioning the double standards of pseduo-secularism, an attempt to deflect it by labeling it as bigotry or hate will not work. People who want freedom of expression for Salman Rushdie must also offer the same support to Nupur Sharma. Instead of crying foul, the left-liberal ecosystem must address the root cause to regain the confidence of the vast majority of India.

Bigotry is nothing new in India. What we are seeing now is a process that started with economic liberalization in the 90's and has come of age now. People who were poor or rural were happy to accept the cultural leadership of the English speaking liberal elite. But now that they have economic power they are re-defining India in they way they want. This is how democracy works.
