The Devils Advocate: The Untold Story: Karan Thapar & Sagarika Ghose
Karan Thapar trained as a correspondent, producer, editor and presenter in the United Kingdom. He currently heads Infotainment Television, a production house that makes programmes for the BBC, Channel NewsAsia, CNBC, CNN News 18 and Doordarshan. Perhaps the most prestigious programme Thapar has presented is the BBC series HARDtalk INDIA, modelled on the lines of the BBC’s long standing programme. His other accolades include numerous Asian Television Awards, the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award and, most recently, the 2017 G.K. Reddy Memorial Award for Excellence in Journalism. Since 2004, Thapar has presented India Tonight on CNBC. In 2006, he launched the primetime interview programme Devil’s Advocate on CNN News 18. Also a columnist, he writes for the Hindustan Times. His ‘Sunday Sentiments’ columns have been published as two books along with a collection of his ‘Face to Face’ interviews for the BBC.
Sagarika Ghose is a senior journalist and author. She is currently Consulting Editor at the Times Of India. She joined journalism in 1991 and has been a journalist and media personality for over 25 years. She started her career at the Times Of India, was part of the startup team of Outlook magazine and went on to work for The Indian Express. She was deputy editor and prime time news anchor on the news network CNN IBN. She is also the author of the novels The Gin Drinkers and Blind Faith, both published worldwide, and the recently published bestselling biography, Indira, India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister. Ghose is a Rhodes Scholar and completed her postgraduate studies in Modern History from Oxford University.

Vasudevan Nair as well as the late Girish Karnad, Mahasweta Devi and U.R. Ananthamurthy. An annual event that goes beyond literature, the Festival has also hosted Amartya Sen, Amitabh Bachchan, the late A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Oprah Winfrey, Stephen Fry, Thomas Piketty and former president of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai.
The Jaipur Literature Festival is a flagship event of Teamwork Arts, which produces over 33 highly acclaimed performing arts, visual arts and literary festivals across more than 40 cities globally.
