I come from a long line of farmers, and we always say a happy chicken is a tasty chicken. If people realised how some cheap chicken in stores are treated they would never eat them again. They also said if you respect the chickens then you can use everything almost except the head and in most cultures the feet.

I'm a vegetarian and this was hard to watch but I have so much respect for your family! If ever choose to eat meat this is how I would like it to be. Beautiful insight into what actually goes into processing meat if you had to do it all yourself. Thanks for sharing this knowing that you could have people coming at you with so much judgment.

Hi Missy and Bryan. I am very happy you addressed the ethical issues of raising animals for meat and how its not wrong. Though I'm a vegetarian by choice, I'll still say that this will be A-OKAY for me, for those who take such care of their animals and then using them for personal consumption. I personally don't eat any meat, but I feel its wrong to bully people into doing anything they don't want to. Just a small query. Since Oliver is a animal lover, I'm sure he was a bit perturbed by the whole process. If you could as a comment reply or in a later video please explain how you got Ollie ready so that he was okay with the whole process ?

You guys did a beautiful job raising those chickens. I know that if anybody would raise those meat chickens right, you guys would. You can take comfort in knowing that you gave them the best life possible, and you did it humanely, I applaud you guys for that. So many other places don't do things as humanely. Can I just comment on that cucumber you showed at the end of the video? That thing was humongous! Y'all are crushing it with this farming stuff!

You did great with your meat birds. When hubby and I was young we did the whole process ourselves. Now that we are in our sixties we take our meat birds to a local poultry processor to have them worked up. We take the live birds in and get back the frozen bagged up chickens. You might want to search for local poultry processors in your area if you want to increase the number of chickens you want to raise.

It's so much better when you know what they were fed and how they were treated. People who don't know farming or animals won't get it. We can love animal's and still understand that they feed us. I love that I live in area where I can get fresh beef, pork and chicken that I know are raised humanely and safely. Most people will not get out. They think the grocery store fairly brings it all lol. So proud of you guys for trying it out and sharing your honest feed back on it.

Its a goal of mine to do this really feel the connection between things you know?) but I'd love more details like how they were plucked, etc! It's important that people know the harms of big farms like tyson and be aware that there are other options that are better! We never named the animals that were raised for food. It was our Children’s summer job. It was the best meat. We would have liked to have raised chickens, steers and pigs too. Looks amazing! You did good! We always order from a few from a friend's farm twice a year. If you ever get a smaller bird (mine can only handle under 5 lbs) try dry rubbing and airfrying for 30 mins and then flipping over and another 30 mins. We love rubbing on some butter and using Kinders caramelized onion butter. It ends up so tender and juicy, and we didn't soak in milk.

Compared to chickens bought in the stores. We love our chickens & their delicious eggs! I have a sister that won't eat our eggs. I tell her to keep buying them that is grown from the trees. Haha! It looked like a delicious, countryfied meal! Think how our parents & generations before them lived off the land. We've gotten away from all that & it's pitiful how things are today. We raise our own chicken meat all the time… it’s part of our life…we actually just last week butchered 45 chickens that we raised…. It was supposed to be 60 but we lost bunch… was disappointing but it happens…. They get sick easily or sensitive to the heat… so it’s best to do them in spring m…And that will last us about 6 months, and we eat two chicken for one dinner including lunches next day and we are family of 5!!! I have a tip if you ever raise your own chickens again… when they get to about 3-4 weeks old… we take their food away at around 7:00 pm in the evening and then give it back 7:00 am next morning… it helps sooo much and they are better… we noticed it gives them a break to breath… because they can kill themselves by eating to much to fast
