Ugh I wish I could afford an Ultra Bee but I've dumped so much into my Light Bee and it's race ready. I'd have to buy an Ultra Bee and still have to dump more money into it to get it to the level my Light Bee is at =/ Can't you let all the air out of the fork and compress it to see if you have clearance issues? Or you could strap it.

Love what you're doing and the channel on the whole! I am wondering about how much the Ultra Bee is starting to weigh after all the mods? I am curious to hear how close you are getting to the line between a heavyweight ultra bee build, and a light weight Storm Bee build?

FWIW, The KTM Freeride triples house the same forks, have higher offset (20mm vs 14?), and are designed for a 21" wheel. They already have some drop in the top clamp too.

Thanks for pointing that out! Those are definitely the benefits to the Freeride setup and it was actually the first option we attempted over a year ago. The downside is that the Freeride uses a different, tapered steerer tube with a bearing ID/OD that makes it hard to find compatibility with the Ultra Bee head tube. The other big hurdle is that the Freeride clamps are extremely scarce and hard to find in comparison to the 85SX, so that pushed us to go with the 85SX. 👍

Thanks for showing all of these mods but it really shows just how compromised the Ultra Bee is in stock form from a true off road bike. The next generation of electrics should really be good. We should have Talaria Dragon, Artic Leopard, and Dust Moto all available in the next year but the Ultra Bee has paved the way for them and should get alot of credit for that.

Thanks for the note. We think the Ultra Bee is a fine machine in stock form! We're just pushing the boundaries and exploring what is possible with the bike. Of course, the more money you throw at it, the better it (usually) gets. But the bike is pretty darn impressive in stock form for $6,500 new. We'll try the Arctic Leopard bikes too. And hopefully the Dragon when it's ready. Dust Moto is going to be a really awesome bike when it's in production. Difference is, you can buy an Ultra Bee today, which is a big point to be made!

Yea totally, Ultra Bee seems really cool but when I think about how compromised compared to a normal dirt bike it would be on a MX track.. just seems like you get close to stark varg money and I just don't have the time to fuss with doing all the upgrades. Probably still super fun in the woods etc. though especially with that extra big battery! I was tempted by the Dust Moto bike but seemed a bit $$ especially given the battery size.

I have modded my UB suspension & chassis including an EXT shock & vastly improved stock forks .. the thing is though ; even with better suspension, that short 53.5" wheelbase is still the limiting factor for negotiating rough terrain with any kind of sure-footedness. On the right kind of trail ; tight & relatively smooth, the thing is quite the weapon with its instant boost out of corners & that dual piston LH rear brake. Brilliant in fact. The best money spent so far on the UB other than 18/21 wheel set ; that cheesy KKE steering damper. Transforms the bike in stability wise with no agility penalty.

For sure! That's a video on the to-do list. The short and quick of it, as @MotoAlias pointed out, are those 2 bikes have completely different ride characteristics. On an MX track or wide open terrain, the Stark Varg takes the cake every time. Trails, mountain or tech riding, the modded Ultra Bee is a pretty solid contender. 50 pounds and a few inches of seat height does not go unnoticed!

Great question. We didn't take an exact measurement but it feels negligible. The bike doesn't appear to be much taller if at all than the stock fork and 21/18 KKE wheel combo. We'll try to get an exact number on this, though.

What about the disc brake fit. I’d love to have more info before I attack my EXC to play a Robin Hood.

Great question. Best answer we can give is... DIRT BIKES! In all seriousness, we have plenty of gas bikes. If you're on the fence whether you should build an Ultra Bee like this or get a gas bike as your one and only bike, we'd probably tell you to get that gas bike. But we're here to have fun and explore the possibilities of electric. So that's what we're doing, and the result is now we have an awesome Ultra Bee to ride.
