James "The SEGAHolic" and Dan "The Mega" Driver, just days after receiving their SegaSaturn modems from our buddies at SEGA Saturn, SHIRO, went straight to one game to try out the new equipment ... Virtua Fighter Remix.

Scotland and southern England. Not too far, but far enough for a 30 year old console and direct IP dialling via a USB line voltage modem and port forwarding. 😂

Unfortunately Virtua Fighter 2 doesn't support the netlink, but we'd love to see a patch one day - Dan

It doesn’t run through any servers. You direct dial the other console via your public IPV4 IP address. One player waits for the call, the other dials. The Saturn modem connects via telephone line to a USB line voltage modem connected to a PC. You run the tunnel script written by Joe (SEGA RPG Fan), which enables the consoles to dial and receive via the ports you forward on your router.

@@SEGAGuys I never knew that, wow. I appreciate you guys putting in the work to make that happen. I miss the old days but I only had the Sega Genesis up until Christmas of 99 then upgraded to the N64

@@black2785Yeah, it’s pretty crazy how it all works. The Saturn modem, the USB line voltage modem and Joe’s tunnel. We released a highlight video with clips of all the games we played plus some of the XBand interface, worth checking out to see the process in motion (albeit with dialling/connection times cut down for viewing).
