I love the pre 87 albums. Music had room to breathe, very classy with the unbelievable bass lines of Neil Murray. Most UK fans will always prefer the, Coverdale, Marsden, Moody, Murray, Lord and Paice era. Coverdale's voice was always more suited to the blues rock rather than the real heavy stuff.

Pete's getting conscious from the vibe on 1987 on The UK Connection . The UK fans especially the fans of the purist blues rock era of the band , don't think much about the 1987 album.

I'm probably the only one who puts Restless Heart on 1. I think it has some of David's best singing. Like on Stay with me, which is a cover but I never heard better covers of this song, and Take me back again, and Crying. Stunning vocals. I love almost all songs on it. Original version of Too many tears remains the best of all remixes imho. Other highlights are Restless Heart, Take me back again, woman Trouble blues, Can't go on. I can imagine that, if you like the 'Sykes' version of whitesnake better, this might not your favorite. But it is my favorite mostly because of the bluesy and ballad/pop songs on it and the awesome singing.

I came to Whitesnake via the radio. First, Slide It In, then WS 1987. Then I bought the rest of the catelog. 1. Slide It In, 2. 1987, 3. Trouble, 4. Come n Get It, 5. Saints and Sinners. Trouble is, apparently, a contrarian pick - wasn't even mentioned in passing. But I like every song. There are some really fast songs which I love. I even like their Beatle cover - funky.

My picks would be: 5: Trouble (Daytripper drags this down for me) 4: Saints & Sinners 3: Ready an’ Willing 2: Slide it in (prefer the dynamics of the UK but US is great for some flash and sizzle) 1: Lovehunter (The epitome of Whitesnake for me as it touches all bases)

Oh yes, that Lovehunter cover, one to not leave out when mother was around - although its a very similar graphic to the cover of Jon Lord's fantastic Sarabande album of a few years earlier. As per my rankings in the comments to the SoT Whitesnake favourites/least favourites show - now expanded to a top 5, studio only - and sorry I couldn't leave out any of the pre 1987 albums. 1. Trouble 2. 1987 3. Ready an' Willing/Slide it in UK version - yes I'm from the UK - the US version is very close due to the presence of Sykes, however on the UK version I think Jon Lord is a bit more noticeable, Colin Hodgkinson's bass is a bit higher in the mix, whereas Neil Murray's replacement bass is great but mixed down and I think Cozy sounds bigger and more meaty on the UK version than the US version which has got to be due to Martin Birch's 'British' mixing aganst Kevin Olsen's 'Corporate American' mixing 4. Lovehunter 5. Come and Get it/ Saints and Sinners

Great show as it always is with the top album shows. I don’t consider forevermore high a contrarian pick. A surprisingly great late career album, at times I had it as my number 1. 1. whitesnake 1987, 2. Forevermore, 3. Slide it in, 4. Saints and sinners, 5. Slip of the tongue (not great but after the top 4 I don’t rate highly most of the other albums.).

Slide it in, 1987, Reading a Willing, Come and Get It and Love Hunter , that’s all I own. As far as for Coverdale he’s an ego trip, he was jealous of John Sykes because Sykes brought Whitesnake too another level, but Coverdales ego was as big as his hairdo.

I still say that I never understood why the follow up to the 1987 album, "Slip Of The Tongue" (1989) gets so much hate. It has some killer songs on it, such as "Fool For Your Loving", "Now You're Gone", "The Deeper The Love", and the crushingly heavy "Judgment Day." Those 4 songs alone are worth the price of admission.

@5:24 The not so bad version and the awful version. That Slip of the tounge album is a tough listen. Steve Vai ruined the Whitesnake sound. Coverdale made a huge mistake taking off with the loot and leaving Sykes with his pants down. Compression of the last three albums is crushing. Can't listen to those records without my ears bleeding.
