@@robertbrandywine No, look at the chapter ring end of the 10, 11, 1 and 2 markers. They're cut at an angle. The marker at 2 o'clock is clearly a marker for one of the other positions, that required a cut at the opposite angle, like 10 o'clock or 1 o'clock. It's extraordinary that this would be incorrect on a watch at this price point.

there is no way they got the intricate details of the movement so accurate then messed up the color of the moonphase. I think they did that on purpose as a business tactic to sell more watches. If you buy a patek clone and it's perfect there's no reason to upgrade to the newer better clone when it comes out. These clone factories understand how to make money also...

Clone factories can deliver the same dial colour of course (nothing hard about that) but they typically do not deliver the exact same dial because they also want to sell v.2, v.3 etc of their clones

This is the first time I clicked on Wristcheck and I want to see more. I am impressed by the even tone of presentation, the clarity of the images, the studio environment. I also appreciate that the presenter did not judge the replica. After I (with a genuine Patek) was attacked on the street I thought of buying replicas of my daily watches to wear. Then I realized I might be attacked for a replica that looked too authentic. The prospect of being attacked and injured for wearing a $1k watch as opposed to a $100k watch put my situation in perspective. I got a fancy G-Shock but have not lived happily ever after. The G-Shock was very UNcomfortable (not well balanced, hurt my wrist, caught my jacket cuff, hard to read, clunky thing to unstrap).

This is hilarious. A guy discussing microscopic dust particles and small imperfections on the hands that aren't visible to the naked eye, but he misses the fact that not the correct indices were applied?! 🤦🏼‍♀🤦🏻‍♂🤦🏽 Since, as he claims, the watch hasn't been opened since it left the factory, this really goes to show how fantastic Patek's QC is.

Pretty unlucky for the content creator here. His point remains, but the reality is he just grabbed a used/scratched OEM to work with and wouldn't really know its history. It's also worth pointing out that *no one* is perfect, not even the demi-Gods of watchmaking. Glad you were able to identify and point this out - good stuff!!

They copy this movement just because of the brand name and that's also the only thing hyped up the real watch.

I wonder if the owner of the real 5712 will ask Patek to replace his incorrect 2 marker... Interestingly, I have the latest version from PPF and my calipers show it to be slightly less than 9mm thick. My calipers only show 0.1mm accuracy so I can't tell exactly to the 100th mm. The logo on the bracelet also appears to be much better quality than the one you showed. The biggest tells for me are the regulator, the shallow engraving (it appears to be laser etched) and the relatively light winding weight. In any case it is a gorgeous watch. I just don't wear it, even in the house. I have a strong feeling these factories are leaving obvious tells on purpose as some kind of plausible deniability, so they can say "we're making replicas for people to use as decoys or try-ons, not trying to pass them off as real".

You definitely pay premium for the original Ferrari or Rolex, but I wouldn't buy a fake Ferrari out of fear that a cost-cutting part or subpar weld would fail at a critical moment. When you buy the real thing you also buy the peace of mind that comes with the brand.

I just found your channel and this is great One more thing you did not mention but that stands out to my eye is that on the moon dial the moon and the stars on the fake watch are not as sharp as on the real watch. Noticed that right away.

1:06 is that a scratch on the watch at 5 oclock? I thought it was just opened? And the 2 oclock indice is upside down.

What really bothered me from the very start, was not the color of the replica's moon phase, but the painted stars on it are really blatantly executed. They are chunkier, whereas on the genuine one can clearly see how crisp and defined all of the stars" edges are! Captivating breakdown, thank you!

One glaring difference between real and fake was revealed at 9:45. The word "Control" is misspelled on the fake. This would be an excellent tip-off without even opening the box.

As someone who would never own either a copy or a real Patek (I could easily though), I'm amazed that the best way to tell this is a fake is have a $50K example handy with which to compare it as well as the knowledge to see the tiny differences. For the person who would want a copy, this watch will pass any "bar" test - even a jeweler couldn't tell this is a fake if he was looking at it on someone else's wrist. I honestly can't believe there's that big a market for these that it's worth the effort to set up a facility to replicate something as complicated as the movement itself. Strange times.

Your right. But as blockchain develops it will ensure authenticity. You will simply scan your friends watch band at the bar... and this will confirm that the Watche and ita corresponding NFT is unique and registered.... of course the private key is stored at home in a safe. When sold on fhe aftermarket Patek is notified and a new private key NFT is issued to the new buyer. This tech is here now and will be mainstream within the next few years.

In today's environment, the moral of the story is: only buy from AD. It's just too risky to buy from secondary market. If I'm spending 30k-40k for a watch I would just have to demand that a guy like Peter meet with me, open the watch in front of me, and show me all the indicators the watch is authentic. For an experienced watchmaker it might take 30 mins but, justified for a customer ready to drop 5 figures on an item. I've had instances where I spent 4-5 hours before I could walk away after buying a car. Why not a watch? You can also do it remotely, over TEAMS video or facetime for out of state buyers. It's not that you do not trust the dealer, it's that even dealers can be fooled.

That's why we do what we do! We authenticate every watch in front of the client if they wish as you mentioned. This transparency is the only way the secondary market can feel "safe." Of course we find things that make us uneasy but those watches never make it to consignment. Very few secondary dealers actually have a watchmaker/authenticator with enough experience to inspect all of the watches.

I have witnessed this kind of thing personally where following my publicly highlighting issues with faked dials on vintage watches, 18-24 months down the line the people replicating the original dials have addressed every single issue that I raised. As an aside, you'd be surprised how difficult it can be - particularly for those for whom the "English"/"Western" alphabet is not their native one - to duplicate fonts perfectly. There are several issues with the fonts here also of course, although frankly in this instance it's interesting to note that the printing of the dates is objectively of higher quality on the fake watch than the original. Regardless of whatever your honourable intentions are with videos like this one, what you have actually created is probably the best possible advert and publicity for the replica manufacturers that they could ever hope for, whilst at the same time giving them clear and specific instructions on how to improve their product.

These fakes are INCREDIBLY GOOD for the price. Most of the comparison on the outside was done with MAGNIFICATION i.e cannot be seen with the naked eye. Fakes can also be "improved". 99.9% of the population could not tell the difference especially if they are not side by side with a real one and without magnification.

They have marketing pages on Reddit where they explain which factory , which upgrades are coming , what upgrades have been done and they do giveaways and 10-30% off etc etc , TikTok, and other platforms also. And they pay KZreadrs to do reviews . They do the same with fake sneakers

It's actually more like half of that amount. You have to know where to look for with these replicas to find the cheapest prices, most of the sellers you'll find easily are targeting you specifically, basically the foreign market, but if you look for those within the chinese domestic market you'll find they're selling these for much cheaper to themselves basically.

Until you own the real watch. Then you'd laugh at all fakes. The feeling you get when owning an original Patek, AP or alike is incomparable. I know the fake lovers will start shouting now, but that's because they need to prove it to themselves they scored a good deal. Whereas the fake is just a fake.

With modern technology, a replica will be 99% the same as the original. Even the movement accuracy will be the same. So the question is should you buy a replica instead because it's much cheaper.

It's not as simple as regularly unfortunately. The entire manufacturing process determines the precision once you get to the adjustment and poising stage. The reality is, yes they are cosmetically achieving close to 90% but the overall quality is closer to 30%. These watches don't last.

I think what this kind of proves is that a Patek-Philippe just isn't worth as much as they sell it for. Even with all the finishing that goes into them, the price is just beyond insane.

3:02 is measuring watches with metal caliper a common practice? i know they are more accurate comparing to plastics ones but wouldnt that scratch the watch surface easily?

Sapphire is scratch resistant. We only measure from crystal to crystal with low pressure. We also have plastic sliding calipers for watches that are in "brand new" condition.

Real reason is that these people pushed beyond their means to purchase something that they otherwise can't afford. No differ than someone who bought a 10th hand Ferrari then let it sit on the driveway because they can't afford maintenance.

Having purchased many authentic watches, it's really hard for me to justify paying the asking prices for them when you can get 95% for a few percent of the price, to the point where if there is a superclone, I will 100% buy that first now before even considering buying the authentic one. Especially for watches without any complications, there really is very little reason to buy the authentic ones anymore.

So you're confusing the cosmetic similarity and the overall quality. Cosmetic may be getting closer to 90% but the overall quality is actually 30-40%. These watches will not last.

@@juxtaplayNot exactly. I know it's not the same thing, not do I expect the quality to match, nor do I expect it to last. But after I got one superclone and I look at it back and forth compared to my authentic one, it's very hard for me to justify paying 20-30x the price for more of them. For watches with actual complications, I can see the value, but not for your basic date function. For maybe $400 USD, it does the job plenty.

It’s a cheap fake, it’s much better to buy a real watch from another brand that a person can realistically afford instead of support illegal business. Not only that because it is a fake the value of the watch is worth nothing. You can’t even pass it on when you get old. In the end the watch will either brake or go in the trash because it is a fake. If it was real it would always be worth something, even if you bought another brand that would be worth something. But a fake won’t give you the real experience, waste your money, and is of no real value. I respect your opinion but a watch is a symbol of hard work or accomplishment. The fake gives neither.

A lie only goes so far, and usually you have to keep lying to cover up the original lie you told when the truth is the watch is cheap Chinese made. It is better to buy what you can afford. If you pay 1000 USD for fake, you just lost all that money because you can’t sell or pass on, Or service a fake watch. For 1000 USD you can buy many good brands that hold real value. If you buy fake it will brake and you will have to throw it in the trash because it is a fake. It’s better to be the real you. If you can afford Longines, Tudor, Mido, Oris you are better off than 1000 fake Chinese watch.

Agree. But… do you know even if you win Powerball you have very little chance of getting the real thing? For Patek - and AP and Rolex - there are giant waiting lists.

That is how the watches are shipped to the AD, the AD is then supposed to open the paper box and put the watch in the mahogany Patek box

Mark is correct here. This is a temp box that is a placeholder for the wooden box that is allocated to the client when they open chase the watch. The watch must now be removed from the temp box before it leaves the AD.

Very nice and comprehensive video probably the most detailed and best i jave ever seen. But i am missing a point maybe someone can help with an answer. People who are buying these fakes are usually buying them for a visual impact, so is this a good replica without opening, etc that can really confuse even real afficiando or not?

just serviced the replica one, hard movement... i think inner gear dimentions might be bit off too. (pain in the ass cause of softer metals)

You raise a good point. The steel is typically "dip hardened." This is why they will not last very long but it is how they minimze their costs by skipping the gardening and tempering stages.

Yup! Patek applied the incorrect index on this particular watch. All manufacturers make mistakes but the cleanliness and precision is their priority during the quality control.

Where did you get it from?

That justification for purchase at the end hit home. People can't afford the real thing & buy a fake. I bought a fake Rolex on the street in Mexico City in the early 1990s for around $50. I'm not into Rolex (except the $250k one I inherited), but fake Rolex were/are a popular thing on Mexican streets & I wanted to buy one for fun, as a souvenir. My fake Rolex worked perfectly, kept accurate time & looked great. I often got compliments on it. About 10 years later I gave it to a friend who really liked it & knew about it. This was a great watch & fun for me since I bought it on a Mexico City sidewalk.

When it comes to things like this, what is the real difference between the replica and the original? The willingness of the buyer to pay an unreasonable amount of money to be able to say "I've got something you can't afford", while the owner of the replica got much the same thing... and of course anyone honest would buy either simply because they like it.
