Okay so for the Benchmade Necron I was so baffled by the steel liners that I didn't even realize IT DOESN'T EVEN RUN ON BUSHINGS🚮 in hindsight it might've been a good thing I missed that while filming, I probably would've gotten sued by Benchmade for slander because WHAT?!? Who's Idea was this balisong?? And why have they not been fired?????

it is a bit crazy, either they know exactly what they're doing, which is very predatory, or they are PAINFULLY out of touch, which is also a problem

At least the cold steel aluminum Arc Angel is a good rehandle candidate if the tang pin can hold up, would love to see what kuski can do with it. The contact patch for the Aluminum AA's tang pins to the handles is a lot larger than the Nautilus tbh, I feel like it'd hold up a little better. Stress on a material being hit by a cylindrical object is directly proportional to how big the cross-sectional contact patch will be. In this case, the contact patch brand-new looks to be around the full rectangular projection of the tang pin to the tang cups. The stresses this will experience would probably be similar to a hidden zen pin knife with the zen pin's size being the same as the tang pin. This is similar to what a LDY Orion experiences with its hidden zen pins since its literally the same stress calculations, just confined inside the handles.

i'm not worried about the tang pings themselves, i'm worried about the tang cups on the handles giving in, which will happen if it's steel vs aluminum, sure it may hold up a little longer than say a nautilus, but it's not a long term solution

I will say it's pretty cool that the new arc angel blades are s35vn so if you have an original arc angel like I do you can swap out the blade of the og for the new s35vn one rather than the high carbon steel of the og

@@DenDenBMX unless the inner diameter of the new bushing matches the old pivot. One can dream. old AA uses 3/16" pivot, so it's basically krake specs, let's hope they just goes with the industrial norms.

@DenDenBMX it should be able to if they're tuned the right way. Mine has a fair bit of play even with just the washers so it should work. If anything you might be able to use thinner washers on it for a better fit if that's the case

I'm stoked on cold steel! They got so much more right than wrong. +Full Size +Light weight +PB Washers over bearings +Hard to beat price ~Aluminum handles. The only downside and its only sort of a downside is the aluminum handles. I love titanium as much as anyone. But as far as doing a revamp of a previously loved knife, they could have done A LOT worse. Rehandles would be kind of tricky as they have those kickers instead of dual tang pins. But still, Any day of the week I'd buy 4 of these and a couple cheeseburgers rather than benchmades joke of a balisong. What buttfucking goobers thought steel liners, no bushings, and tungsten weights are what this knife needed to succeed?!?

really the only thing that concerns me about the aluminum AA is the grip and the tang pins, other than that i'm on board, definitely more exciting than that unholy abomination benchmade's trying to sell for an absurd amount of money

I think the arc angel has zen and tang pin combination. If it don't say 6061, I'm still hoping its 7075. If you can switch the handles to correct the latch/clip position then I would but it.

I was curious about that too, in the videos it's a representative from Cold Steel saying it comes with s35vn so i'll take their word over blade hq, I believe blade hq just updated their old titanum arc angel listing for the new aluminum version and it could be they still just have the old ti arc angel specs on there for the blade

Balisong is the proper name for these knives, butterfly knife is a nickname for them that became very popular in america in the 80s due to benchmade balisongs being so popular and having a butterfly logo

I bet the same thing will happen that's happened to their last few balis, it'll have an okay launch and slowly die a silent and moot death in a year or two, never to be thought about again until someone says "remember the necron? who's idea was that??"

As a bali collector that knows a few tricks and owner of the BM87, i was really excited to pick up a new bali when i saw the necron announcement. Needless to say that I am outstandingly disappointed in the build material as well as pin choice. The 87 really set a high bar, and the necron simply can not compare

well, technically BRS based their models in Benchmade knives, for example, they has a titanium model flagship like Benchmade had the 42 and the secondary model like the replicant was like the morpho, and still some zen pins measurements fits, technically Benchmade is making a 2024 morph actually, same with the blade shape. if you look the 51 its pretty similar to the necron

"reasions" benchmade will use to justify the necrons price: - complicated handle and scale geometry - adjustable weight system - "made in the USA" - benchmade select edge - benchmade's "customer satisfaction" - the brass pivots - the "High quality" bronze phosphorus washers - D2 steel handles (you know there gonna say that at some point) - quality control you know and love - the RND we TOTALLY did with flippers to make this exactly what you want - it's red and black - included weight dampeners (replacements will cost $50) - We made a new balisong and were KNOWN for balisongs. unlike these other knife makers - were benchmade

Funny how you have to pay like 1500 for an Epiphone but my Harley Benton fusion t probably has comparable quality lol. I called bm, and give them my feedback and told them who I was that I was a pretty decently respected mother in the community and that absolutely no one's going to ever buy that fucking knife with no bushings and steel liners at the very least you must change one of those. The lady actually said well you're not the first person to actually call here we've been getting calls pretty much since the video came out. She said it would not be uncommon for them to pull a product after it's been released to redesign it. She said she would definitely pass it on to the design team

Benchmade lost touch a long time ago when it comes to balisongs. They made the 4X series and then tried to reinvent the wheel. Yes, red Necro is pretty. Fuck that price and material combination. I'd pay maybe $200 for it. Benchmade would no longer know the definition of premium if it *bit them on the ass.* The 6X series was massively overpriced and underfunctional, the 87 was a goddamned joke. The 53... Do people remember the hilarity of the BM53? The best balisong that Benchmade has produced from their factory since the 4X series is the Bradley Mayhem, which is actually a fucking gorgeous flipper and EDC.

Those both look like hot garbage. If the benchmade was $300 and titanium, I'd give it a try even without bushings. Aluminum and steel... I wouldn't buy these for $50. So much wasted potential.

I think they both have potential, if the arc angel is gonna be aluminum handles they should focus on making it a good flipper with jimping and texturing instead of relying on a nice blade steel to bring in buyers, because most flippers really don't care about blade steel. As for the necron, I agree it should have titanium scales, bushings, and be around $300 max, if that's not achievable then just use d2 or 440c for the blade because again, flippers don't really care about blade steel

It is pretty funny to see how bafflingly out of touch some shot callers are these days

So s35vn is not that wild of a steel in the knife community. It's a base premium steel and not that crazily sought after generally speaking. Not that it's not loved it's just not hyped like let's say Magnacut. From there, aluminum is extremely common for handles, especially for EDC OTF knives with 60 series usually being the type used. It's funny how different the rest of the knife community is than the balisong community. Different worlds!

I think the AA will fare better than the necron, I think if they improve the AA and come out with different versions over these next few years they could have a pretty good mid-tier balisong.
