    After John‘s 2nd Video in a week, I simply called him this morning - having a great conversation with him! He is such a nice guy and super tasteful player and seems to really like the AMP1 😊… So we are connected through our love for music, great gear and the AMP1 …😊 Life is good! It’s great to meet good people 😊 Cheers, Thomas Blug

    Too many of us listen with our eyes, me included But I took the punt on a Mercury Edition and then the Iridium. I love my Bogner, Matchless and CAA heads but sometimes they don't suit the gig and the Amp1's are always great. I remember a sound guy was very sniffy when I showed up with the Mercury on a little board and suggested I use the other band's real amp - afterwards he asked if he could take a picture of it as he was so blown away by the tone! 😆

    It's great that you are taking up this topic again. I wanted to write a comment on the last video about the AMP1 anyway... Unfortunately, most people don't understand the concept of this amp. Despite many explanations, many people don't realize that this thing is actually a fully-fledged 100-watt tube amp. No modeling, no digitally recreated sounds, it´s as analog as can be! The Nano tube quality is military grade, so it should be extremely reliable. In any case, no comparison to normal tubes. It's definitely worth delving deep into the AMP1 and watching a lot of videos. Thomas Blug is first and foremost a live player and has really put some thought into the complete layout of the device.

  • @joeltunnah

    Great video. I looked at this 2-3 years ago, and the reason I didn't go forward with it might surprise you: I saw demo after demo showcasing the fantastic sound of the unit, flexibility, etc. But EVERY demo, and I mean EVERY demo was by Thomas Blug himself - there didn't seem to be any sort of independent demos or reviews at all. It made me wonder whether anyone other than Thomas could get a good sound out of this thing. I'm not criticizing Thomas for his hard work in marketing his product - any entrepreneur would do the same. But it was a red flag to me that he was in every demo out there.

    I've borrowed a few amps from John over the last couple of years. I had his mesa boogie MK3, the one all in lovely wood with the wicker grill. Was happy to get back to my amp 1 as it was just so much easier to use and dial in. I've got the headfirst dirty Shirley clone at the moment and that's great - but I can do everything it can do on the vintage channel of the amp 1.

  • @dscataglini
    @dscataglini23 күн бұрын

    I think using it in a 4 cable way with an hx stomp/or similar will give you a very flexible super compact rig with just 2 pedals. In the hx stomp you can split the path and an IR hard panned one side to go to the mixer/front of the house, and the non IR side to go to the fx return on the Amp1 => Cabinet. If there's something the Amp1 doesn't give you, you can have a patch that bypasses the amp1 preamp section in favor of an HX stomp one and then still use the Amp1 power section.

    I tried the Amp 1 a couple of times. The second time 'cos I'd missed the side controls. I even went to a Thomas Blug demo event where he demoed matching tones of other amps in the room. The demo went on so long, I didn't get to try it at the event. The 2nd time was after the TB demo. I never managed to get a sound Iiked from it. I didn't care for the sounds TB chose to demo, that's why I wanted to try it at the demo. I did give it a thorough try the 2nd time and found the I couldn't get the right eq on any of the available options. If there's a specific mellower version the future, I'll check it, but ATM it, and the speaker it's paired with, has a particular sound that doesn't work for me.

The original silver is voiced to Thomas's favourite JTM45 with a really worn out rectifier tube. It's looser and squishier. The mercury is more of a straight up plexi voice

    As far as I remember Thomas always said the record-out (also the Blubox) sounds best with a speaker or reactive load attatched to the Speaker out. It's because the power amp reacts with the speaker which also makes the cabsim more realistic.

    I’ve just looked at the manual and also the KZread vid from 9 years ago that convinced me to buy an Amp1, and I can’t find any reference to the tone suck thing. I thought that was also the reason for the Blubox’s existence. Maybe it was the first iteration of the Amp1, and was corrected with the Mercury/metal editions…? Or maybe it’s the Mandela effect 😬 Whatever, I never use the headphone/recording out when the speaker’s attached.

    Doesn't make sense to me unless it's super cheap, which is not.

    I don't think it needs to be super cheap. It's a fair bit of kit that really does perform like a 4 channel 100 watt head. But I do think the current price is a bit too steep. I bought this one a few years ago for around £500 (can't remember the exact amount now) and felt that was reasonable at the time

    @@tonystartup3817 right at that time makes sense, but not now with the options you have, unless you find a good deal, at least if you are looking for something similar.

    @@dutelatte2154 I will say though, that I do use mine a lot at home for just playing around through a 1x12 cab. It's just so much easier often than using a traditional tube amp - don't feel like I'm worrying about leaving tubes running for hours at a time, don't have to worry about accident not adding a speaker load. Noise is low and it doesn't pick up loads of transformer hum when running at high gain like a normal amp, and then you really can dial in pretty much any tone you want from one of the four channels and the various EQ options. Only thing some of my amps really do better is that edge of breakup not quite clean thing

    @@tonystartup3817 yes I understand, I was just saying that with today's options even buying it used it is quite expensive.

    I use Amp1 ME for my main #majikband amp. I have played easily 50 live shows and used it extensively on our recent album kzread.info/head/OLAK5uy_ks1GvKZrtK-DaLNxD3M8TBNmOlZJlZPNY&si=koBdOzuJvkfCRQg9 It beats out an extensive array of high end amps for me in the studio. It has never failed me. I run it 4CM with and hx effects and a crazy tube circuits space tube overdrive added to the front end for another gain stage and 12ax7 before the preamp. Really rear amp.
