10:01 I feel like the thing about servers is they take a while to set up. They can take weeks and Brawl Stars has been rapidly popular lately, so they probably can't keep up with the growth. I'm not an expert, I just made the meme and I'm assuming this is the reason, but yeah they probably can use some money on new servers if they want to.

When you have a system as large as brawl stars, its typical to have infrastructure in place that allows you to easily replace a server - something like kubernetes (k8s) which automatically distributes workloads across dozens of servers. Program the workload, load the server with the base software, and kubernetes handles the rest - installing and running the software on the new server, giving it certain tasks to run, etc etc.

About the servers: it really depends. Some software scales really well, and some doesn't. There are two "types" of scaling - horizontal and vertical. Vertical scaling is the most common, where in order to improve performance, you have to upgrade the server to give it more compute power (CPU, ram, etc). Horizontal scaling, on the other hand, is where you take one workload (say, converting a video into another format), and split it into tasks assigned to each "worker". The key with this is that the worker could be a different server entirely, which allows you to get past certain hardware limitations (like the Max amount of RAM, storage space etc). Like I mentioned earlier, software has to be designed for scaling - Its no good having two thousand servers that can convert your video if the software doesn't know how to split the task into smaller chunks for each worker. Brawl stars likely wasn't originally designed to handle as many concurrent players as it does now, and it would likely take a large amount of time and energy to not only code the new system, but to migrate everything over without any bugs or glitches. The other main things are connectivity between servers and whether brawl stars manages their own servers/rents something like AWS. By just renting like AWS, they don't have control over physical details such as the hardware in the servers that creates the connection between them, which is needed in order for the servers to delegate tasks to other servers.

We need dani piper About servers... Tl;dr networking is really complicated. If it was that simple, we wouldn't be having this server issues. The people who work on these things for a living have probably already thought of the idea you suggested, OJ. First off, I'll answer the question, "why cant they just purchase more servers?". Surely they are multi millionaire company they can just setup server anytime right? In industry terms there are two types of scaling. Vertical and horizontal. Vertical scaling is when you get a powerful server or throw more resources at the problem. Horizontal scaling is when you get more servers. Not every scaling can be easily scaled in both directions. Some days ago, brawl stars reached its new peak. That is an example of vertical scaling. Unfortunately vertical scaling can only take you so far. CPUs only go as fast, you can only get so many cores, and you can only fit so much RAM in a server. Okay so solution is horizontal scaling?. Yes but no. For a server to handle a player connection it needs to have all the latest data about the game. If you add more servers, you need some of way to keep the data of this players. Here comes backend development, Database. Database are one of the main uses of server with rocket science hardwares. It can be scaled horizontally as well but a lot of nuance required. Lets consider that database will need to keep latet data of every players in sync, so all the players can play in same game. Even if this data was updated once in every 30 mins(brawl stars do it after every match you play i believe but im giving hypothetical situation) but requested millions of times per second, it would be very simple to replicate that data to as many servers as they need to handle all those requests. This is how twitter or youtube handle their users. Database just need to sync. A game server is different. Game data constantly updates and requests are likely roughly in proportion. The request all also needs not just latest data but its needs that data as fast as possible or else many players will face data deletion issues. For services like youtube, its more load time. For games, players may loose their trophies or crash while playing. Scaling database like this horizontally is much harder as you would need all those server to be in sync.

It’s not likely they will add more servers. Since your progress is saved in one server then that means if you create another server it’s a fresh start, and if the devs force them to go to the new server they will start from the all time beginning. Making all these tryhards in rank furious.

Not exactly how it works. Player data can be transferred from one server to the other, and this typically happens in real time - what if the server your account was on explodes, wiping out three thousand players accounts? Typically data like this will be replicated across at least three (if not more) servers at a time, such that if one fails, another picks up in its place.

Can't wait for Melodie to have a voiceline that talks about her "rivalry" with Janet, while Janet just is not even close into having a "rivalry" with her. (Maybe she can have a voiceline too)
