Oh yeah? Sanders said healthcare professionals would have to take a paycut. And why would anyone want to pay 15% more in taxes to fund healthcare? I am in construction. If I had to pay 127 employees an extra 8 hours a week of none productive time... I pass those cost on to the consumer. So you think housing is expensive now?? What happens when every construction job is delayed one day and every man on the jobsite gets paid for 40 hours yet, only works 32? The impact will be significant. There is so much wrong with our health care system to say the least. I am on Medicare as a senior citizen and barely ever go to the doctor. So many people run to numerous doctors continually; then doctors are afraid of getting sued, so they order every test they can; many intercity people use ERs for their general practitioner, so so so much wrong. It will eventually collapse.

So what's the INCENTIVE to produce under Sanders system? He said doctors would have to take a paycut. So why are you entitled to someone else's services? I am not. I am not entitled to a doctor. Historically things don't really change (economically) until the end of the long term debt cycle AKA late stage capitalism, which is where we are at now. See: 1776, 1865, and 1939. These were the periods where democracy became popularized, where slavery was abolished, where worker's rights were granted. Things got so bad that the government was forced to change. Power concedes nothing without demand.

Our health care in Canada is not perfect and this is what the right wing will always try to tell you. There are situations that are frustrating with long waiting times, remote areas, health worker shortages, etc. But the facts remain, HALF what it cost vs USA and you don't have to deal with all this BS of job = health insurance and no health insurance + major health problem = bankruptcy or early death. In other words, if tonight I've got a heart attack, we call the ambulance, a whole medical team get called in overtime, they proceed with my surgery, I stay at the hospital for a couple of days (probably in a semi-private room) and I'll get out there worry free from a financial perspective with a 0$ insurance bill so I can solely focus on my well being and my health and this is true for EVERYBODY in the country: men, women, old, young, poor, rich, black, white, native, trans, name it, everybody.

When I was in Puerto Rico, my daughter got sick and my mom paid for her to be seen by a doctor. So if something goes awry with my teeth, Ima just pay for a walk-in. Because I'm not going to do the most, when I hardly need to visit the doctor for anything. I haven't seen a doctor in 4 years, imagine me having to apply and send information every single year. Lol. Nah. Freak that! I'll just keep my mouth out of dangerous things, which is exactly what the devil wants me to do anyhow. Go do risky and dangerous things that way I wind up in the hospital. No thanks. I'll just keep by butt home.

And it will pay for itself. I saw those stories about diabetic people not being properly taken care of because of lack of service and / or drug - aka insuline. And those people die at a relatively young age - aka at an age that they should still be an active part of society, working and paying taxes... the same taxes needed for paying the health care system. It's a bit of a virtuous cycle.

I agree. Outlaw PACs, campaign donations and political ads. Instead use publicly funded elections. Enact term limits including the Supreme Corrupt. Install ethics guidelines for every elected individual, especially congress and the Supreme Corrupt. Get money out of the political system. Reduce corruption in politics and the judicial system.

Want to make changes at the top? Vote on the bottom. Without good local politicians we will never have good top-level politicians and we'll keep having to choose between the bad and the worst. Politicians don't appear out of nowhere.

Yet, seen from this side of the border (Québec, Canada), YES, it is a system unworthy of a neighbour that claims to be exemplary in terms of democracy. Here are a few examples: 1. Generalized "gerrymandering" where the boundaries of electoral districts are established by the elected representatives themselves according to the areas where they receive the most votes. Some take bizarre forms. A practice worthy of the worst diets on the planet. 2. The electoral enumeration entrusted to private firms that "forget" to enumerate whole sections of the population discriminating against them in a partisan manner. 3. The distribution of polling places, some of which are up to hundreds of kilometres away from the voters they are to serve. 4. "Voting machines" of all kinds, provided by private companies in the pay of elected officials, making it even more difficult to carry out real control. 5. The distribution of 2 senators (who are something other than puppets like in Ottawa) per state, so that Wyoming with a population of 563,626 in 2010 can elect as many senators as California with nearly 40,000,000 inhabitants. 6. The "grand electors", a regime imposed by the "founding fathers" to screen the expected excesses of the "populace". 7. But above all, a democratic system where it is the billionaires who make the law through the unrestricted financing of electoral campaigns, making elected officials their only emissaries, according to the well-known adage: "tell me who pays you, I will tell you who you belong to". The United States is therefore far from being a model. Rather, it is a caricature of a true democracy. In this sense, several countries formerly described as "banana republics", such as Costa Rica, have adopted much more democratic electoral systems. The USA vision of the world, which boils down to that of an American puritanism whether it is mired in religious bigotry or that coming from so-called "liberal" circles, is defined by the supremacism that Americans place on their values and attitudes toward other cultures. It is profoundly individualistic, advocating individual success as a virtue and balking at the enunciation of collective rights.

Here is a potential problem that I see as a possibility. The American people do not make enough money to live comfortably. How likely is it that they might get paid by a foreign country, possibly through an app, without realizing that they are being paid by another country, and then are required to do something to aid that country in return for being paid? The US government needs to start caring about its people, or they may end up getting bought out by another country's interests.
