This may sound radical

I know, it sounds radical. But maybe, just maybe we should create an economy that works for all, not just for Mr. Bezos and Mr. Musk.

This is America since they allowed money into politics. Then it is no longer a democracy - rule by people, it is a plutocracy - rule by money. USA been like this since the 1980s or so, and it will only get worse until either the county falls apart or into autocracy, or people rise up and change it. Trump is a symptom of people loosing faith in the system, not the cause. It will get worse still until Joe and Jane doe has enough and eat their leaders. Money in politics=national suicide over time.

Yes. One example - everyone should know that No matter how expensive your health insurance is, it doesn't cover extended nursing care - health insurance only covers acute nursing, by its own rules to increase shareholder profits, which could not be done under 1965 health insurance regulations. Just One example out of many: just buying an annuity in almost all cases will disqualify you from nursing care. It is VERY easy to make a mistake that makes the annuity noncompliant. Congress created this trap in 2005, with the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005, passed by Dennis Hastert, Darrell Issa and Newt Gingrich This DRA 2005 law is so evil that most lawyers do not understand all of it. A court has called interpreting it as a Serbonian bog. This is just one example. Do not fall into this trap and make sure you consult with an elder law attorney you trust in your state!! If you think long-term care insurance is a solution to nursing care, buy a pre-paid policy. You are paying for nursing that is part of other industrialized countries in the world. LTC insurance is very poorly regulated - again, think of your Congressman. At the least - tell your Congressman they must repeal DRA 2005. If they ignore or deflect, elect someone else and tell and warn your friends! It is the Death act- literally

There used to be a 91% penalty on those taking more than twenty times the average. Granted they were able *by design* to get that down to 55% while allowing the difference to fall to the working class as living wages AND lower prices or by donating to a very small number of legit charities in aid of the Common Good like subsidizing higher education and hospital care rather than jacking up these costs while simultaneously suppressing wages and fixing prices like today. The real underappreciated beauty of it was that by setting this on a certain multiple of the average income rather than any set dollar figure it essentially forced those at the top to let the average increase to make more themselves before that tax kicked in. The entire post WW2 boom that the red hats pine for was driven by this when the rich were forced to circulate money rather than hoard it away.

I would even say to mr. Bezos that it is almost criminally immoral that he is the wealthiest person in the world, while many of his employees barely make a living. I read that in some Japanese companies there is a rule (it is not law in Japan) that the highest paid person in the company can only earn a maximum of 50 times the wage of the lowest paid employee. Wanting more as a CEO is considered to be bad taste and greedy. I think that would be a very good rule of thumb (make it the law, even). If you think you don't need to pay your employees more than $15 000,- a year (minimum wage in the US) the CEO certainly doesn't need more than $750 000,-.

Bezos hasn't gotten rich from a wage though, he's gotten rich as the owner, who's entitled to the profits. His income wouldn't be affected at all even if the US had the same rule as Japan, his income comes from his ownership now from working as CEO. A CEO is technically an employee working for a wage, but Bezos would keep "earning" money even if he didn't work at all, just owning the company is enough. That works in Japan too.

Something happened in the mid to late 80's. I worked for a company with 10K employees in one location. Every March was when we got the BONUS. The whole town/region advertised everything from appliances to furniture to cars on sale in anticipation of the bonus. Our health insurance was mostly covered by the company, we were the highest paid nonunion workers in the region, we had a pension plan. Then everything changed, the bonus went away, we started paying more and more for health insurance, the pension went away. Now everybody's retirement is dependent on how much they invest in their 401K. The company is still prospering. The employees not so much. It used to be that a HS graduate could hire in cleaning toilets knowing that they were going to get a raise every 4 months and a promotion to a manufacturing job at their one year aniversary. Now that person who cleans the toilets works for a contractor and has no opportunity for a promotion within the company unless they go to work for a different contractor who has the contract for the lower paying production jobs. SO there is no hope of climbing the ladder anymore.

I find it very concerning that I don’t have the proper medical and dental insurance and as now retired woman, and I am very concerned about this. Welfare people living better than me,seem to have it better than me and I My husband died in the military, and this is so unfair and bias that something has to be done about it and everybody that I have connection with,we’re not voting for anyone.Politicians are big liars. Miss leaders, we looking for people with integrity to run this country this time around.

Very well said Senator Sanders. In the 20th century corporations took care of their employees with great perks and protections. My parents' employers offered a fixed pension, retiree insurance coverage (medicare supplement), annual bonuses, decent pay and other benefits. Today these offerings to employees are no longer in order to vastly increase the wealth at the top 1% of these corporations such as the Elon Musks, Jeff Bezos and other CEO billionaires and top executives. Capitalism is great when there are innovations, improvements, inventions and monetary returns and rewards afforded to and benefit to all and not just to a selected minority financially elite that we are witnessing today as Senator Sanders clearly points out.

  • @garytorresani8846

It’s the love of money or greed that is the root of all evil. The wealthy learned their lessons from past times they tried to get control, like the 20s under free marketer Hoover which led to our Great Depression. FDR put controls to stabilize the economy on banks and corporations which lasted until Reagan and the republicans started tearing them down for the tickle down bs. Clinton helped by getting rid of Glass Siegal which allowed the banks to go crazy with derivatives and other tricks in the market leading to the 2008 recession that without the fdic and bailing out large banks and the car companies would have dropped us right into a massive depression. They basically kicked the can down the road. Clinton also led together with the end of the fairness doctrine, the deregulation of media which had led to broadcasters being controlled by six companies and it’s getting worse and the calculated rise of right wing entertainers to propagandize people. The red team blue team emedia driven bs is also calculated by the corporations to keep us divided as they reap ratings and up share prices fir their investors. Doesn’t matter. Right wing, left wing. They’re all controlled by the same conglomerates. Basically, there’s nothing Putin and the Chinese would love more than to see us collapse. The Chinese would become the next superpower with the Russians as allies. Electing Trump would be the last nail in the coffin of this democratic republic as he is beholden to Putin, the Saudis, and the Chinese for helping his kid and her business. Here’s Jefferson “If the American people ever allow the banks to control its wins of their currency, first, by inflation, and then, by deflation, the banks and corporations that grew up around them, will deprive the people of all prosperity until their children wake up, homeless on the very continent that their fathers occupied.” Here’s Nazi Herman Goering just before he committed suicide in jail “Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice, or no voice, the people can always be bought to the bedding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they’re being attacked and denounce the pacifist for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country. “ And finally TR “The great corporation, which we have grown to speak of rather loosely as trust, are the creatures of the state, and the state not only has the right to control them, but is duty-bound to control them, wherever, and whenever the need of such control is shown. “ Citizens United what’s the beginning of the end for America. Giving corporations the power to run our elections through money and pacs gave control of our political process to them. It is no longer we the people, it’s the oligarch and the corporation conglomerate. But, that’s been the plan all along. They got better at it. U
