Watched The Towering Inferno for the umpteenth time earlier this Sunday afternoon, and when the first line hits “We may never love like this again “ I’m a blubbering wreck 😭 For a 47year old bloke, that’s an admission right there! Such a poignant song in this truly awe inspiring film 🍿

I was watching the movie last year for the first time, I am only 23 and when she came up on screen I recognized her voice from the Poseidon Adventures, which I watched, both movies, just a short time before. I stopped doing everything I did and just listened to that haunting melody right before disaster strikes. My most memorable scene of the movie.

It'd be a haunting song anyway, but, in context, it's REALLY haunting. The "Beyond the haze" line seems ironic. I have a tape with an orchestral version of the song, and it's great "horses" music - it conjures visions of equines running in fields. Very different from the claustrophobic feeling evoked in this movie!

Yes. Later, in the film, one of the characters notes that at least all the women are safe. They never let her sing this song nor The Morning After at the academy awards. She sang TMA as a unexpected hit after the movie’s release and demand for a radio single. I can’t find any live recording of We May Never by Maureen. Many of her Lp’s didn’t even include it. She sang the song, sang it on film. Was it just much a variation of Poseidon?

  • @misterlyle.

The track for the theme song featured in the _The Towering Inferno_ was included in a limited release soundtrack a number of years ago. It sounds like a live recording, and it is much longer than what is included in the film. The studio version with full orchestration was included on the original soundtrack LP, back in the 1970s. As for the Academy Awards, since Maureen McGovern's first song "The Morning After" became a hit after that song won the Oscar, it is likely that the producers opted for a more established singer to perform, rather than an unknown. Connie Stevens performed that song from _The Poseidon Adventure_ for the Academy Awards show in 1973.
