Everything in One Piece has lore to it. From its history all the way down to the grade levels of swords. Theres so much detail put into this story which is what makes its world building so immersive!

That guy in the crowd is the most legendary character in one piece. The legendary pirate Ask D. Question

My personal opinion about why Smoker decided to become a marine is that he over time realized that most pirates ARENT like Roger. He saw this amazing King of Pirates with pride and stronger than anyone and admired him........but then looked at the rest of the pirates around him and saw they were mostly scum who only did harm to people around them. I believe Smoker joined up to deal with those scum, but also to MAYBE see if he could find a pirate as impressive as Roger.

The reason Luffy suddenly can't fight in this episode is that him flying off wasn't in the original manga 😅 this happens more in the upcoming arc that the anime adds non-cannon padding/filler, and usually when they do they have Luffy act uncharacteristically incompetent compared to the manga

Sanji's and Smoker's lungs be like 🤕

This isn't spoilers since it becomes clear pretty soon after this. I just want to clear up any confusion. The whole "Smoker admired Roger" was filler in the anime. It really confuses a lot of people, and I hate that they even added it in the first place. He is indeed a Marine, but a nice and caring one as we see with his interaction with the civilians and even how he treats pirates in a way. He isn't really testing them to see if they live up to Roger. He's just doing his job. Don't get too hung up on it since it's really just an early episode goof.

He appears in episode 8, I believe, and is shown in chapter 19 of the manga in that same Buggy flashback in the Orange Town arc. It is his young look we see in like chapter 900. You should look into his history of writing OP. He had characters in mind years before he even started. Like even back when he was in school and they were just sketches on random paper. He's a man with a plan, and he always has been.

When Oda decides to sprinkle us with some lore its the best thing.

Episode 48 was THE legendary episode of the old pre-grandline One Piece Days - after Arlong, at that point, One Piece got a hold on me and never let go ever since!!!! LETS GOOOO - looking forward to the journey with you two 🥳

Yeah manga/anime Zoro didn't know about the Wado Ichimonji. It was the Live Action that made Zoro as if he already knew

Hearing the old VA Smoker is fun, R.I.P Ginzō Matsuo he was only 49 years old when he died in 2001 from acute subarachnoid hemorrhage.

I like how they cover their eyes when the title shows up😂

I love Logue Town. All of the characters introduced in it are so cool, and Zoro just does continues to be the coolest ever when he gets his swords. It's great.

I forgot how fun and funny east blue is. You two laughing the whole time especially when it’s Luffy, Zoro, and Roger being highlighted in the episode really hits home the core message of this series and why this silly rubber man means so much to me.

In case u wonder why Luffy doesn't drink, he and Usopp are 17 years old in this so it was avoided. He also claimed later that he doesn't like the taste either

The wait for these is almost as excruciating as waiting for new chapters

I reckon 3 episodes per video would be ideal at this point 🙂

If you remember the talk between Luffy and Coby in the live actions about good marines and bad marines, Smoker is a prime example of a good marine, and a huge pain in the butt at times. He is the Javert of One Piece. If you don't know who Javert is, he is the primary antagonist of Les Miserables, an officer of the law determined to catch the main character as a lawbreaker, but never really stopping to realize the man became a criminal by circumstance, but is actually a very good man. Luffy and Smoker have a very similar dynamic.

What’s great about Smoker is he’s the first marine we see that has morals and is nice. All marines before were portrayed as evil and the “bad guys”: Axe Hand Morgan and his son, Full Body at Baratie, and Nezumi at Arlong Park.

I love how Richie is disguised as aa freaking motorcycle. truly a master of disguise.

Just for clarification ;) there are 3 sword ranks (grades) that classify the very best swords over all the rest: 12 Supreme Grade Swords (no one declaired yet in the story at the point where you are gotten to) 21 Great Grade Swords (one of them is the Wado Ichimonji) 50 Skillful Grade Swords (one of them is Yubashiri, the precious sword of the vendor in Logetown) Cursed Swords are ungraded. The higher the grade, the better the building quality i.e. sharper, harder and more durable. 🤗

Someone said that the kitetsu III is a cursed sword that leads its user to their death, but knowing zoro, he'll just go the other way.

The Loguetown arc was originally going to be in season 1 of the live action, but Netflix cut the season from 10 episodes to 8.

the Wazamono is a real thing from our history!! in Japan history these are historical famous swords, it is the same ranks and number of swords but in One Piece they have different names and shape, the concept stay the same: 12 swords are classified as Saijō Ō Wazamono (Supreme Grade), 21 swords are classified as Ō Wazamono (Excellent), 50 swords are classified as Yoki (Ryō) Wazamono (Very Good), and 80 are classified as Wazamono (Good).

Not sure if its been mentioned already but if you go back to watch the execution in the first episode of the live action you'll see they included a young smoker in that too as a nice easter egg among other people you have yet to run across. They really went out of their way to put in things for fans of One Piece in that adaptation.

They finally met Ask D. Question... the most important character in ONE Piece

Hi ladies, always happy to see you two enjoying One Piece, hope you like the new material even more than the live action! A small note to help explain some questionable scenes (25:14): since the anime is based on the original story told in the manga there will be adaptation differences, especially more in the future as the anime catches up to the manga. The result is having some scenes added or stretched out to delay the pace, and a good example is Luffy's first visit to the execution platform. It's understandable to wonder why he manages to lose control and fly away from the scaffolding, those events were never in the original story and the scene is just meant to keep Luffy occupied while the rest of the crew has adventures in town. There are times where these anime additions add good context, but for the occasions when there is uncharacteristic behavior you can likely chalk it up to being "anime original" and not written by the creator. 👍

It should be noted that the scene in the bar and Luffy meeting Smoker the first time is non-canon anime filler. This is the point where the anime starts adding filler. Sometimes the filler is its own episodes, so it can be skipped around easily. But sometimes it's inserted into canon material, which annoys me more, since it's harder to get around. This is the reason for the contrivance of having Luffy accidentally fly away the first time only to meet Smoker at the execution platform again later. Come to think of it, Loguetown has a lot of filler compared to how it went in the manga. Nothing offensive, but I think the fact it starts here is noteworthy.

Captain Smoker is a power player. The next episodes will teach to respect his devil fruit and his commitment toward the Marine and toward Justice. Smoker is also a very good friend to Garp the Hero...He's a Marine Main character for sure. Also very dedicated on catching pirates. Like top 5/top 10-ish dedicated. Luffy got his work cut out for him. And it's just awesome... :3

The curse of the Kitetsu sword makes its wielder meet a tragic death but that won't affect Zoro because he always gets lost 😅.

Smoker and Tashigi are one of my favorite duos in the series. So happy you finally met them!
