This dollhouse was made from scratch by my husband who used a picture of an ikea dollhouse as a reference. Thanks for watching! 💕

The ceiling is so high that you could probably put in a loft over the bedroom, maybe add some dollar store battery lights, and now that your daughter is older un-glue the furniture so she can actually play with it. You've got enough room for a third floor looks like

When I was young, the MOST fun was moving the furniture around and redecorating. Please consider letting her move pieces around. It really doesn't matter if something gets lost. The fun is in the redecorating.

This is so adorable and inspiring! I want to offer you an idea, and I hope it doesn’t feel like a criticism. I’m a mom, (and grandma!) whose firstborn daughter has already married and begun her own family, and I still have six more at home. When you shared how your little one had already drawn on the walls, my heart was so touched. If I had a dollar for every thing I’ve invested time, money and creativity into, and has been scribbled all over… sigh! Still, I couldn’t help thinking how cute it might be to take that little scribble on the dollhouse wall, and make a popsicle stick or dollar tree frame around it, as a piece of modern art.

This is so cute!! I totally get glueing things down to not lose them, but I feel like that takes half the fun out of it! When i was a little girl my favorite part was moving the furniture around and designing it how I wanted. Maybe if you ever do it again you could get a special box or something to store all the pieces in so they don’t get lost as easily.

Haha I totally get that but she was so little when we made this, those pieces would have been totally gone within days. If she was several years older that’s totally what I would have done ❤️ for her age, it’s what was best for us 😊

The floors turned out great. If you can shrink down a family portrait or photo of your daughter you can frame those and put them on the walls too. I think my daughter was 3 1/2 when she got her dollhouse. She was good about not losing the pieces.

kidonike1 who knew building a dollhouse would be so controversial LOL what would I have to gain from faking building a dollhouse for my daughter? I have like 2 subs 😂 i don’t understand haha I probably would have gotten more views if the title was “remodeling an ikea dollhouse” anyway. It’s not about faking people out 🤔

Stain does not work like paint. You should have sanded the floors first. Apply the FIRST coat of finish. Sand again and apply again. Until you get the color you wanted. Then seal it with the proper sealant. I know it’s just a doll house. However, you gotta use the products properly to get the affect you want. Otherwise it won’t work.

Beautiful!! You and your husband did a wonderful job! I just ordered the Ikea dollhouse and I want to put it above my daughter's headboard but I was planning on cutting the wood in half (depth) to be able to fit. I could even make two dollhouses out of it. Do you think that type of wood would be easy to cut without chipping? Also, to paint it, I would have to sand it down first? Thanks!

My husband made this one based off a picture of the ikea one so I’m not exactly sure what the wood is like on the actual ikea one! Ours is pretty basic wood so it would be fine- hopefully it’s something similar! Your idea sounds adorable!! ♥️

@@AmyLeeAngelLove pine is a soft wood so it's one of the easier ones to cut, hardwoods are trees that grow slower, like Oak, Walnut, Cherry and so in. Hardwood is more dense, heavier and harder to cut, and more expensive. But the woodgrain on pine is very obvious so you need to paint it or wallpaper to cover it. An in between type of wood would be something like mahogany, that's what I used when I took woodshop in high school, back when they still had real classes. It was more expensive than pine, which was the cheapest, but not as bad as oak. The hobby stores use Bass wood for the minis because it's a light wood, easy to cut, but the grain works for minis, no giant knotholes. The thickness of plywood for a dollhouse can be anywhere from 1/8 inch thick for kits from Greenleaf to I think 3/4 inch from Real Good Toys. Sometimes they use MDF board. Check out a Lumber yard to compare prices on different kinds of wood for the same size piece, thinner woods will tend to warp when they get wet, like when you paint them or put glue on. Plus if you want to put a nail or screw into the edge of a wall, thicker wood would be easier to deal with.

@@AmyLeeAngelLove if you make it too shallow furniture won't fit in there, if it's four inches deep that's like having a room only four feet deep. I guess you could fit a chair and a bookshelf but not much else it would be like a hallway not a room

@@recoveringsoul755 You're so helpful! Thank you so much! After reading your comment and knowing how small the depth of the dollhouse would be after cutting it, I decided to leave it as is... maybe just finish the wood with varnish. I just purchased a shadow box dollhouse which will fit above the bed instead. I guess one for decoration and one for play.
