ASMR at the museum | Dressing a 17th-century dolls' house | V&A
Ойын-сауық
Step into the 17th century (in miniature!) with Curator Will and Conservators Robert and Dana as they dress the delicate Nuremberg Dolls' House.
Made in Germany in 1673 (as written on the chimney), this is the oldest dolls' house in the V&A's collection. At this time, dolls' houses were made to reflect the lives of the wealthy people who owned them - in this case an apothecary (chemist).
Join Dana as she prepares and manoeuvres the extremely pillowy bed, and Robert as he assesses the condition of the intricate metal decorations, including plates, dishes and exquisitely painted pewter tankards. Watch as Will as oversees the operation, placing the tiny furniture into the house just as as it would have originally been.

For some reason, dollhouses always seemed like such a “modern” toy. Maybe Victorian era at its oldest. But to see such a beautiful and detailed thing, especially one so old, is absolutely amazing!

It must be fascinating to See a display of them - something charming and bizarre about this one is the incredibly inconsistent scale despite excellent craftsmanship! So that it’s wonky and amateurish in appearance but still finely made. Funny thing.

Oh they where around alright especially in now-a-day Netherlands. There is by the way a very well made movie that catchs just such a 17th century Dutch dollhouse and it´s story. It is called "The Miniaturist" should be easily findable on youtube.
I hate how stingy people are being about what counts as ASMR. This 100% counts - it would fit right in on the “unintentional ASMR” channel. When I heard them speaking I’m soft spoken tones, I got so excited. It’s perfect!

It's not unintentional asmr. If you think that's what this is then you can watch almost any regular video on the internet and call it asmr. Their voices are too harsh/loud.

As a German, I can confirm that many of the houses in Germany still look like that
I vote it is a thing to be appreciated on its own merit as it is. It is an ASMR video, such as an “unintentional ASMR.” It is good that it was put in the ASMR list. This is my favorite playlist on KZread.
Y’all are nuts if you think this isn’t ASMR. The gentlemen have soft enough voices that I 1000% got tingles instantly when they were talking quietly about the metal testing. Keep up the nice work! Loved this!
This is right up my alley. I LOVE doll houses. The Smithsonian has a great one. Amsterdam, London. It would seem world over, doll houses are so unique and lovely. All the teeny tiny fixtures, furniture. Who wouldn’t like that?
what an absolutely beautiful house, I love doll hoses, my Uncle made me one as a child, fantastic insight into years gone by.
Incredible to see such an early thing, I'm so glad this is on display for children. And it's lovely to hear the conversation, as someone who didn't come here just for Asmr it's a nice insight. These videos are unhurried and great to see conservators at work. Exquisite. Can't wait to see.

Strange to think of this as something for adults to show off with. As opposed to a toy. I customize dolls and sew clothing as a hobby and I can guarantee you that it definitively isn’t something i show off to my friends much XD

All the things can be show off things on the internet if you find the right group or people who also love what you do. One of the nicest things about online… meet people from all over with the same interests. There’s a lot of dollhouse and miniature groups, for example. I bet there are for doll clothing makers and tamagotchis also.
Well, I'm glad you chaps had fun with the little houses, since obviously no child ever did. Amazing preservation.
This doll house is masterpiece, omg, so pretty and detailed!
What a beautiful dollhouse - thank you for sharing! 🙂
This is glorious! Thank you for sharing this, V&A.
I love these ASMR videos so much. They are so interesting and relaxing-just wish they were longer. Thanks you V&A for your wonderful content!
yk how easy interactions would be if we could get a whole persons life in a freaking doll house.
Love the video, but it has little ASMR in it… the two guys just having a conversation kind of killed it.

Well they did try, with the mic pointing at the bubble wrap... As a first attempt at 'unintentional' ASMR, good effort. But the men aren't really quiet or reverential enough....sniggering isn't the best ASMR approach, oops! Two people is also one too many. And for me, they've just not got voices I would peg as particularly calming, sorry boys! Whereas the lady at the start (by herself) has a voice MADE for ASMR. So would guess museums, galleries and ASMR go naturally together, so a consistent effort could really grow this channel. Without being too demanding, also I recommend a script to describe the history of an artefact... Random waffle isn't compelling.

I didn't even think about there being dolls houses from the 1600s. Amazing
@lenibeni7421
11 ай бұрын
That’s probably because they weren’t intended for the "modern" purpose I guess. It was more of a "model" like a model plane or ships etc, that adults spend their time with today rather than what we would nowadays call a "dollhouse". Of course there are still people who do this as a hobby and who fully decorate dollhouses in a certain style and put expensive things into it… but most people would connect the term with a children’s toy. Not what people would have used it for int the 17th century.
Gentlemen, it was excruciating how long it took you to unwrap and reveal each treasure. haha Beautiful items, exquisitely made.
if only i had one of these every week💔
Speaking of "time capsule," the watch worn by one of the gentlemen is truly a flashback to another era and I wonder what the significance is to him.
Love to see two men enjoying decorating a dolls house

Take a look at the pictures here: collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O98316/the-nuremberg-house-dolls-house-unknown/
Just WOW! ❤ If you want pillows to look more realistic, you can use lentils, rice OR sand. Sand is probably the best solution for such a gem (the mice are playing while the cats are out)..
I would love to know what the brass nobs along the wall under the plates and behind the chair set up. I would also love to know what other treasures are supposed to be in the house, and what the other side looks like.
Thank you so much for your wonderful videos! I experience seizures and your asmr videos are one of the very few things that are able to get me out of them, every movement each person makes us always predictable because they explain in depth what they’re about to do, not an overwhelming amount of sounds, absolutely amazing 👌
I never imagined a dollhouse dating to the 17th century - though it makes sense upon reflection. Just as another viewer I sort of placed their inception to the Victorian era, or maybe just before. Learn something new everyday!
This is the most intense doll roleplay ever.
Next to the dollhouse the second oldest artifact in the room is that curators digital watch!
It would have been over a century old when Jane Austen was born. It looks so fresh still.
The voices are a bit loud for ASMR but it's amazing to just watch that video. That dollhouse is so detailed, as a little girl I would have been obsessed

This wasn’t a child’s toy, it was a display to show off how disgustingly rich you were.
Have to agree to other comments, there's not much ASMR in this video. A lot of the talking is conversation that doesn't benefit the audience. It's distracting to the point I can't focus on the art. The dollhouse itself is great, though.
@VictoriaandAlbertMuseum; what are some techniques you have had experience of with window detailing? I am not happy with the windows in my otherwise lovely Dolls's shop; they're just haphazardly stuck on cellophane strips... but I don't know how to tart them up if I DID try.
The person to the right in the dark great cardigan looks like Julien Solamita from their left side 😱
C'est dommage qu'il n'y ait pas des sous titres en français, j'aurais aimé suivre les commentaires. C'est une très jolie maison !
