We Load-up A BMW 1250 GS & Go Off-Road With "The Guy"

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We push the GS to it's limits to see what it can handle & it's impact on the rider. I asked "the guy" to see if he can handle this much weight off-road. "The guy", after filming this video, went on to qualify for the #1 position in all of Germany to represent Germany in the BMW GS Trophy 2024 in Namibia.

    Great video. One piece of advice - when you drop these babies (I have a 1250GSA), particularly on the right side, before you lift it, it pays to FIRST put down the side stand so that it can rest on it immediately. It's easy to "over lift" them and it crashes down on the left side. The voice of experience speaking :)

    Great video and unlike all the other videos I liked seeing the bike put through it’s paces. It shows Just what a skilled rider can do with this bike and is inspiring. I just started looking seriously at the GS after buying a Norden 901 this year. I just wanted a bike to ride after selling my Harley. I’ve always found the adventure market alluring but thought the bikes big. After riding the Norden for half the year, I know that the BMW would be better suited for the type of riding I mainly do which is 90/10. And get me there more comfortably. Keep up the good work.

    90/10... And these 10% you will suffer because of the abnormally monstrous weight of a large GS. At the same time, the Multistrada V4 surpasses the BMW in comfort, and the KTM 1290 SA, if slightly inferior to the BMW in comfort (only due to the worst wind protection), is infinitely better than it in other aspects)

    Great video! A trick to pick it up: turn the handle bar all the way to the opposite side. If it’s lying on the left, turn it right. Now stand at the handle bar end that is on the ground. Grab it at the end and lift it up with your knees, don’t bend down. I mean use the legs not your back.

    What Adrian said is absolutely true! I'm just 1,75m which is - reading into lots of comments - 10cm too small for this big lady... Went - with lots of questions - to my local dealer and he helped me to try out a whole bunch of configurations. I ended up with - just - the flat seat (which still is super comfortable) additionally lowered down via its front connection points. Didn't even had to lower the whole bike down additionally. And I should add, that I got the GSA which has 16mm more ground clearance. In short words: If you'd love to ride one, don't hesitate to ask the next dealer for help and advise. If there's any chance you fit onto one, take it! 😍

  • @Bazza47

    @Bazza47

    Жыл бұрын

    If by the balls of your feet you're putting both feet down there is an easier and safer fix. Trying to put both feet on the floor actually makes the bike unstable as it can fall either way from vertical. A far better option is to slide your backside across the seat to the side you're going to put your foot down on just before you stop and then put just one foot down and lean the bike towards that leg. This creates a triangle which is the most stable platform there is, the bike can then only fall one way but is prevented from doing so by your straight leg and because you've moved across you'll be able to flat foot easily. The German boot manufacturer Daytona also do a great boot called the M Star which has a raised heel and insole adding 25mm to your leg length. Also when getting on and off the sidestand put the bars on full lock with the right hand bar closest to the fuel tank. That makes it far easier to get the bike back into an upright position. Good luck

Your guy looks tall so he seems at ease moving around the GS I am small and it helps an off road GS but when moving it or lifting it OMG I'd wish for a lighter bike. I respect the skill of those moving GS on technical off road because it is NOT easy with such a bike contrary to what they say and people always hide the injury aspect too which could easily end any ride. I'd keep mine for plain forest roads even after hours of training with instructors.

Put the back seats back in and can haul people too :) I'd never own a VW product and my German wife is in agreement with me on that one. Maybe other German cars but not VW and especially not a GTI, they are usually "wannabe" drivers that don't know how to drive and have everything to prove to everyone, it's actually kind of sad that this type of person is almost always owning a GTI. They have just enough money to own a "faster" car and they think they own the road and expect everyone to make way for them and if you don't they get pissed at you. Tail-gate you and I've even seen one cause an accident and just drive away while the other two cars stop and are responsible enough to call the police and report the GTI. Oh well, enough rant on the GTI wannabies, take care, Scott

    Following this mini series of GS exploits, Scott trades in his RT for a GS 😆 Haha I kid, for your needs I’m sure the RT suits you marvelously. Personally I’ve never been a fan of the bike’s looks, and any model that uses the boxer engine just isn’t very aesthetically pleasing to me (I’ve always felt the RS model in particular looks like a pregnant goat with the headlight “eyes” and swept back mirrors looking like the goat’s horns) but you really just can’t deny the full-on utility, AND ability to be thrashed around like this vid shows, is why I will likely turn a blind eye down the road over how I feel of its looks, and pick one up as my dedicated touring rig. I know some people do actually like the bike’s looks but for me personally, let’s just say I’m anxiously awaiting the rumored 1300 to see what stylistic changes BMW makes 😋

    Yup, it helps to be near a city or better yet a good BMW tech. My 2013 1200GS has been reliable and the basic service (oil change, rear drive oil, and airfilter) is accessible and can be owner maintained. I really like it and especially the places it will take me.

    Na, if that were true, those headers would have cracked off by the end of the video, we put that thing in the water several times but nothing happened. 👍😁
