Half of me wanted us to lose - never had that feeling before. Because I know the Southgate loyalists and his PR team can spin this now as “first time England have ever made back to back quarterfinals at the Euros” - we were dreadful and the arrogant post match interviews affirm that we need to get humbled. We couldn’t have dreamt for an easier route to this final and we were 90 seconds away from failing at the first hurdle - with our first shot on target in the 94th minute, against Slovakia. I’ve never been so bored watching England.

The proplem with england for all these years hasnt been the lack of talent. Its the fact, all this talent arent a team. Through a few alfa dogs into a pack, it would be a chaos. Thats english football. Reason switzerland played well so far, because every player knows their role. Without masive superstars, the egos are smaller. Player are used, not being the alfa.

It takes a strong manager with a football brain to put in place a structure to handle the egos, implement a system to bring out the best in them and who has no qualms dropping big names who do not fit the system or who underperform. Give Pep this England team and they winning everything.

Most of us have been anti-Southgate since 2018, but after tonight can anybody seriously still be pro-Southgate? Under him England have always been negative and boring to watch, but clearly now we see that top players putting in good performances and easy fixtures were masking just how bad a manager he is. From the squad selection onwards this tournament has shown him for what he is.

England was passing the ball side-ways and back-wards. Slow in the build-up, players took too many touches you could tell Southgate had no gameplan just slapping big name players together. That was a lucky-win and to be honest IT'S NOT COMING HOME.

The crux of it is that in any other sector when a manager displays the same weaknesses or errors time after time then they will be held to account. Southgate has repeatedly demonstrated a lack of tactical nous. On the pitch that manifests itself in Croatia 2018, Italy 2021 and France 2022. However he is not accountable to anyone. He has spent his whole tenure pitching himself against the media machine, and this has reaped huge benefits in lightening the weight of the England shirt on his players. This, in turn, has contributed to the relative success his team has experience since he took over, and there is a lot to be said for that and no one can doubt him as a human being, and as a man manager. However I believe this is generating a confirmation bias that his way is the right way. He undoubtedly got away with it last night, and in no way should he feel vindicated by his decision making. If we had have gone out he would have stated his rehearsed lines and departed as manager with his head held high. In my view, he completely underestimates the opportunity before him and his side in this tournament, and indeed the extent to which he is responsible for holding us back. If we lose on Saturday, as many of us suspect we will without major wholesale changes, we will have to search for a new manager, endure a world cup qualifying process, hope for a favourable draw, top a group and win a R16 game in America, Canada or Mexico. Our time is now, we are here, and it doesn't matter how we got there. Saturday is huge and I hope he acknowledges that it is his responsibility to get us over the line. Sufficient resources are certainly at his disposal.

Kane bellingham,TAA,palmer,saka were playing fantastic excellently for theur clubs ! One man is the culprit is Sgate

Why would you field a high school quality team.

We’ve gone backwards, it feels like 8 years wasted, ended up putting Toney on to lump long balls to then 5 at the back to cling on. It’s so frustrating watching stones, walker, Rice and Trippier constantly pass sideways, Saka plays like a three foot target man on the wing constantly receiving the ball back to goal backing into defender and passing back/sideways when he has the beating of his opponent, I could carry on

As a non England fan, I can see Southgate, with his never ending luck finding a way to scrape past Switzerland. As good as Switzerland look, the quarterfinals are new territory for them. England steals another win I think.

We got it done and it was a great clutch moment from Jude Bellingham to save us but let's be real we're going life and death with Slovakia whos players on the pitch are not worth one tenth of the price compared to ours. But teams like that are just better organised than us so It doesn't matter that we've hundreds of millions pounds worth of players on the pitch if we're just all over the place tactically and struggle to adapt. If we play like we have been against Switzerland next then they'll take us apart like they did with Italy because again another team who are just are way better organised as a team then us.

I don't even know if it is tactics / team selection that is causing most of our issues. Almost every England player can't even make a basic pass and regularly take a heavy touch. Sometimes it feels like we've just thrown 11 random men on the pitch from the local pub.

I've realised from watching England that I'm a football fan first and foremost. This is problematic, because Southgateball is anything but football. I feel nothing but apathy for my own national team now. That's a first.

My prediction, whatever team is in possession will spend the majority of the time they have the ball passing it between the defenders. Whenever a player is fouled said player will immediately assume a wide mouthed expression of utter and complete agony the likes of which you would expect from a soldier who has just had his legs blown off by an explosion while said player will throw themselves to the ground and either pretend to be dead or writhe around like they have had thirty thousand volts of electricity pass through their nads.

Wow. I get it we haven't played remotely close to the potential that is there. That being said we're still in the tournament and Switzerland beat probably the worst Italian display in a knockout stage of any major tournament that I've ever witnessed. Schar and Rodriguez at the back? Yes please . They're an organized team with a core that has been together for years and shouldn't be looked upon lightly. Just support the team. They want to win it just if not more than any of us. Cheers

You cannot play saka at LB against Switzerland. They have top quality wingers. He is not good enough defensively. Palmer was also very average when he came on. I put play a 4 4 2. 2 strikers and get saka on the left wing and get balls into the box

This is the manager who said England haven't found a replacement for Kalvin Phillips, the sole reason Southgate thinks we're are struggling is because we are missing K Phillips! That is obvious by the fact that the only position he has tried to mess around with is that CDM position. He is so deluded that he somehow thinks that if he had a prime K.Phillips at his disposal all the other problems would miraculously disappear and we'd be winning comfortable. He is so out of his depth and tactically the worst high end manager I've ever seen!

We'e got worse with each game that come. Southgate won't make any changes for the games ahead. Only forced ones. He's stubborn, and he looks and the more we win the more he won't change. We are finished against Switzerland

The Swiss looked very organised when i watched them. To a man you have to ask what position is each England player actually playing? Not one overlap from Walker or Trippier. Midfield clueless. Defence the same. Individual effort got us a lucky win. Its so slow its a joke. A little speed and guile from Palmer changed the game.

How can any professional football team in the world think it’s okay to pass the ball around the back four sideways-backwards-sideways-backwards for most of a game and then have the temerity to call themselves a football team. This is the most unlikeable england since I've been watching them, needs to drop rice, foden, bellingham, trippier, kane and saka, no guehi now because trippier sold him short with a pass and he had to stop the breakaway

I think England went pear-shaped first game, but this formation demonstrates that quite well!

Switzerland favorites, maybe being the underdog will help us.
