The end of "South of Heaven" transitions into another song. It is most necessary to hear it.

Before Tomas Haake... Before Gene Hoglan... Before Danny Carey... There was 1 metal drummer blowing minds, doing things no one had heard before. Dave Lombardo is (among other things) the pioneer and master of tom rolls (including double bass 😉) As a true OG Slayer fan, i *IMPLORE* you to listen to my favorite song... Live Undead Thank you. Actually, it doesn't come to a complete halt. It transitions into the next song, 'Silent Scream', a high speed attack after this mighty mid tempo opener. Definitely listen to the two songs back to back. It makes the "fadeout" at the end land quite differently (I don't know if it comes across the same way the first time you hear it, but if you know 'Silent Scream' is coming you can feel the buildup in it, the anticipation and sense that something's coming). Many choice cuts from Slayer's 80's albums (and I include 'Seasons In the Abyss' in that list, even though it's from 1990). I'd recommend 'War Ensemble', 'Chemical Warfare', 'Hell Awaits', 'Black Magic', 'Necrophiliac', 'Mandatory Suicide', 'Die By the Sword', 'Ghosts of War', 'Altar of Sacrifice/Jesus Saves' (which are actually 2 songs but you can't listen to one without the other) and the aforementioned 'Silent Scream'.

Another bit of trivia, Silent Scream (I believe written by Hanneman) is about a 1984 anti-abortion film The Silent Scream, it was obvious when you grew up in the 80's but the film seems to have been forgotten en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Silent_Scream#:~:text=It%20was%20produced%20by%20Crusade,taking%20place%20in%20the%20uterus.

SLAYYYERRR!!! This album was released in ‘88 and was quite a departure from the previous thrash masterpiece, Reign in Blood. Still mind blowing metal…dark and brooding.

I keep my cucumber wrapped in foil stuffed in my jeans. Doesn't go over well with airport security, though... 😂

I wore this tape out on my Walkman when I around 15.

This track is such a great example of how to start an album. Moody and slowly draws you into the chaos.

The boy can sense the choppyness coming from Slayer 🤣🤣

'88 was a great year we got South of Heaven in July followed by And Justice for All in September, easter egg in this song... the the harmonic notes in the intro are an homage to the intro to Dazed and Confused by Led Zeppelin jammed into one of the heaviest intros in thrash

I honestly feel like every song on this album is better than the studio version.

My favorite track off this cd is Read Between the Lies

Fun fact: Cucumbers and most kinds of pickles have no calories in them which means you could theoretically eat nothing but cucumbers and starve to death. Another fun fact: Slipknot sampled that last note ringing out on their song Only One.

Now you should check out the Brides of Lucifer cover. It's.....um... Different. To say the least.

why is it that the off-key solos just sounds amazing compared to the riffs? just genius! and genius for them to stick with that trope the whole way through from the first album! keep having fun!

Dave Lombardo is the second best drummer in the history of music...PERIOD! I don't know if you do entire album reactions. Start with 'Reign In Blood'. Then 'South Of Heaven'; followed by 'Seasons In The Abyss'. You'll notice the musical changes in each album. From 1986 to 1990.

You see the next track comes in hot, that is if you listen to an album proper
