Most of it has become a sad state of mental illness. Lucky for most us that still venture out into public, they wear red hats so you can guess they are coming closer. I disagreed with my sister on many things growing up. Now we are both in our 60s and we couldn't be further apart in our beliefs. I've tried to talk to her on many occasions about trump, the "stolen" election, lies or omissions that are pushed by certain shows she watches and the various magazines she reads. She was almost in tears talking about the border being completely open and how its going to destroy this country. She yelled at me saying she's so glad her kids aren't in school anymore with all the drag queen story hours and the glorification of the lgbtq lifestyle in elementary school. I was dumbfounded, how could we be raised in the same house and be so far apart. My dad was always a republican voter but unfortunately trump poisoned my dad's thoughtful beliefs. I took care of him from Sept 2018 til he died in May 2020. We had many heated discussions about trump and covid. My dad was one of the smartest men i knew but he was buying fox "news" bullsh*t hook, line and sinker. There are many days when I wonder if he would have come around after it came out what fox did spreading the lie on air but behind closed doors they said trump was delusional and dangerous. Never mind the covid deaths he caused. But people who study human behavior say you can't make someone change their beliefs so I probably would not have been able to convince him, just like my sister. It seems to me that the more truth, with facts to back it up, trumpers and/or republican voters hear the more they dig their heels in to their very flawed beliefs. You're absolutely right when u say we won't be able to change minds, we have to convince the people on the fence to go out vote blue!!

I've been watching these videos and something hit me for the first time on this one. There is a particular vibe that's similar of what you get when you go to basically any kind of fandom convention. There's a lot of people walking around wearing ridiculous outfits to express something they like, and they're talking about a lot of inside references. The difference is these people think the things they're talking about are real, where's the person dressed up as a space marine from Warhammer is doing it for fun. These people picked a fantasy that never gave them any joy, and yet they got lost in it.

That second guy genuinely frightens me. I would not feel safe in the same room as him, and I was typing this out before he got to "subhumanoids." It's the sheer gleeful malice in his voice when he speaks. I didn't get that sense from the others. They might believe in terrible things, but that second guy, he's on another level.

When you remove the humanity from your enemy, it's easy to do any kind of unjust and despicable act to them...Internment of Japanese Americans during WW2, Lynching of blacks throughout our history, bombing or shooting in mosques or churches...That second guy is ready to kill or at least to defend the killers of his enemies.

Around here, we have people who are totally convinced that schools are installing litter boxes for students who want to be cats. Even though they can't name one single school which has done this, they're utterly convinced that schools all across the country are doing it.

"what rights?" "Human rights" "What are human rights?" "I don't know" REALLY? how in the world does someone show up to fight for their rights when they don't even know what rights they have? Very very concerning and scary. Beyond estatic that I moved out of America and to Europe

I blame the Republicans for shredding the American education system. They wanted voters to be dumb, and easily frightened, therefore easily led about by the nose. They wanted voters who couldn't tell a lie when it bit them in the face. And they got it.

That’s because they overhear the aliens that abducted them discussing it while strapped to an examination table pretending to be medically sedated. Their lives are a mixed blessing. On the one hand, they have a unique opportunity to eavesdrop on alien conversations, on the other, every being knows “Billy-Bobs” have the absolute finest anuses in the galaxy worth probing . Everyone else is simply jealous that they were blessed with a perfect balloon-knot to sacrifice for God and Country!

Research has shown that you cannot change someone's opinion with facts. The Backfire effect says that when an evidence-based correction is presented to an individual and they report believing even more in the very misconception the correction is aiming to rectify. So, yes we need to give up on them and effectively push them into a corner.

A family member that I was very close to was absolutely changed into someone I barely could talk to, never will you be able to get them to listen to reason.

It's amazing that these people talk about not having your rights, when the politicians that they support, like DeSantis, are busy stripping these rights with every bill that's introduced in their legislatures.

"Our children" probably means his grandchildren, and family. He can also be speaking from the perspective of an American adult that feels protective towards children, as all adults should feel protective & a responsibility for the children of the community, city and or country.

I have two parents (74 & 75) which I feel are too far gone down the rabbit hole. I attempted to talk sense into them however was met by rage, gaslighting, shutting down of all and any conversation, and more anger. It was unprovoked and seems to be at the top of their minds on a consistant basis. I will ad that both are unwell mentally and perhaps undiagnosed narcissistic personality disorder, dependent personality disorder, and other mental health disorders (ocd, ptsd). I have been hearing their crazy conspiracy and racist rhetoric most of my life, now that FOX and Trump spout the rhetoric they have become too far down the rabbit hole. I do not think they can be changed and am highly embarrassed and ashamed to have them as my parents. It's very difficult navigating any type of conversation with them. They are deeply fearful and deeply shame-filled. They believe crazy theories and live every day in fear. OCD and hoarding included. Both have lived in a super small town (population 3,000) their entire lives and have not traveled and befriended only country white folks. It's a sheltered and fear driven life.

Fear and anger stoked by FOX.They are to be pitied but it’s hopeless. Like my sister who still thinks the election was stolen because she saw only trump signs in her sad little town. It never occurs to her that there is a whole big world out there. I don’t try with her anymore.
