Debi I used to have a friend in Florida. Never met him, he is a personal trainer and he helped me through a difficult times just talking. It seems that one of the reasons Trump got elected is that during the campaign Spanish language media in the US was overrun with right-wing misinformation. It's so strong that I have to suspect that this was an organized campaign. For some reason the Spanish language media didn't have much in the way of a more mainstream reality focused voice so that this information ran rampant and wasn't corrected. And then a surprising number of Hispanic people voted for Trump. I don't think that's a coincidence. I'm guessing that's what explains the first subject.

Oh and that woman talking about communism has no idea the GOP ultimately want authoritarianism! 🤦‍♂️

Good for you and not for the political reason you're thinking. I got anecdotes. We've had five openly maga at my work and all five stole. Nearly all of the damage was several thousand in payroll fraud, two even came back trying to beg a coworker for money and later we found out from a DEA agent they stole something at their new job before they rolled on over to us to sale some -intentionally didn't mention which kind because we guessed they found a buyer- drugs, but two good former soldiers slowly quitting over the controlled racism stuck with me. Also had a couple of pre-obama, Limbaugh on the radio, managers that also had some questionable finances rumors about them before I got there.

There were enough questionable interactions and comments to establish an uncomfortable level of liability attached to that group and the ideology. It wasn't political at all. There were just very identifiable patterns you can't allow in employee behavior when sending people to a strangers home.

At first I thought maybe media were just actively seeking these types, but oh no, I worked with a number of them. And the company had to threaten to fire them because they wouldn't stop getting into it with ppl that just didn't want to engage. They had their cubicles with trump decoration bunch trump stickers and coffee mugs. And two were rather aggressive wanted to fist fight. Two males and one female were terminated. I'm in Ohio, and they traveled to four of trump rallies that I know of.

The fact that Luke is a good looking young man gives him more access to Trumpers than if he were a middle-aged man. The people he interviews are mostly disarmed because they think he isn't threatening to them and their warped beliefs. The best part of his interviews is when a Trumper asks him what has Biden done and he rattles off a laundry list of things. Watching their faces when he does that is priceless!

But about 5-10% of the time he misinterprets somebody's comment or a caller's question and I wonder if it's deliberate to avoid the real meaning or to create drama. And when I see the comments in KZread agreeing with him in these instances, I'm like did you hear the comment yourself? How can you agree with David? So much for the critical thinking David always promotes lol.

Luke was fantastic, his rationality cut straight through all the absurd logic, without demeaning them. This is the sort of intelligent interviewing we need to see more of.

100% agree. This is the only way to talk to Trump and QAnon supporters without triggering someone into violent outbursts. I get my chuckles over making fun of them just like most other sane people, but when you call someone stupid, they do tend to get hostile.

I grew up in Austin. Keep in mind that Austin is one of the most liberal cities in Texas. Travis County, where Austin is located, went a whopping 72% for Biden to 27% for Trump in the 2020 election. So these people are MOST DEFINITELY in the minority in this community.

I pass 2 of those folks in the videos while driving down 5th towards Congress,as they stand on the sidewalk w signs or panhandling. The streets of Austin are full of homeless folks and mentally ill people. Geez,lazy...go interview down at The Broken Spoke or sumthin'...

They believe it because they want it to be true and that’s pretty much it. Of course they can twist reality to provide rationalization for their belief. This is why it’s this same type of thinking that made Trump so popular and why cults are successful. People abandon rational thought to chase the pie in the sky

I’m taking a critical thinking class right now and this is such good practice for identifying failures in effective critical thinking and analyzing argument!

I had a friend in the 80s that was married and cheated on his wife basically every week with a different woman each time. She excused him every single time by 'believing' his story--whatever it was. She was in love with him, and never even wanted to contemplate the truth. That's Trumpland, but I think it's even deeper than that. They actually want Trump to keep lying and win THAT WAY.

What the law refers to (generally speaking) is taking the flag and sewing it into a piece of clothing, like the guy in the vid. Think of it this way: you wear the flag as The Flag, not as a head scarf. Hope this helps.

As a Country, we can fix a lot of things, but we can't fix Stupid...

I spent forty years in corporate America. The first twenty status wasn’t a big deal. After E-Verify was created and the laws about this changed. As we saw during Covid there were lots of Hispanic people working in companies like meat processing and other low level employment. Last year significant numbers of undocumented children were found working all hours of night and then going to school. My dear friend is Vietnamese and as people who start small businesses they formed an opinion on Trump during the Apprentice. They really thought it was true.

Wow, my brain hurts so bad right now. Congrats to Luke for this work and for keeping a straight face while doing it.

There is no hope for these people. They are beyond saving.
