They just want to take back what was the land of their forefathers, you are confusing the want to remove an occupation and kill those doing that occupation. Israeli people should just leave if they don't want to get caught up in the struggle. If someone took your fathers house and refused to leave then is it your fault that you have to remove them by force? No violence would be needed if that person left your fathers house by choice.

  • @10dubious

@Kebo Boke The Palestinians have been offered a state so many times, I've lost track of the exact count. In 1947, the world, in the form of a United Nations Partition Plan, offered the two-state solution, a Jewish one and an Arab one. Even though that Jewish state would have been relegated to an indefensible sliver of land, the Jews accepted the plan while the Arabs did not. Similarly, after the 1967 Six-Day War, Israel offered to give back practically every inch of the land it had won, in exchange for peace; the Arabs again rejected it. In 2001, then-Prime Minister Ehud Barak offered in excess of 90 percent of such lands to Arafat, with land swaps in exchange for the rest. He also offered a sharing/division of Jerusalem in exchange for peace. Once again, the Palestinians rejected the offer, and started a war. The same rejection occurred some seven years later when former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert offered a similar deal. The problem has never really been the refusal of Israel to live next to a Palestinian state, but instead the unwillingness of the Palestinians to live in peace next to a Jewish one. Today, the Palestinians simply refuse to negotiate with Israel, to avoid the prospect of having to recognize Israel as a Jewish state next door to it. That in a nutshell is why they are going to the United Nations, so that the annihilation of the Jewish state can be left on the back burner to be resumed afterwards. Based on their behavior the last 63 years, it is clear that they simply will not end the conflict until their goal of one Palestinian state in the land between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River is accomplished. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has offered to sit down with Abbas to negotiate a deal; Abbas has refused. Netanyahu even agreed last year, to the anger of his coalition, to a 10-month moratorium on new construction in the territories. But rather than jump at that opportunity to negotiate, Abbas waited nine months to come to the table, and then wanted to talk only about the need for Israel to extend the moratorium. In recent days, Abbas has sworn that he will never, even if granted his own state, recognize the right of the Jews to their own state, and give up the so-called "right of return" of refugees, not to the new Palestinian state, but to the Jewish one, which would then, of course, quickly become a second Palestinian state. He also sat idly by last month as his governing partner, Hamas, targeted and killed Israeli civilians on a bus on their way to a vacation at the beach in Eilat. He refused to condemn the attack. He has stood idly by as more than 1 million Israelis have sought shelter from Palestinian rockets launched from Gaza. And he has enabled yet another terrorist attack on young adults at a nightclub in Tel Aviv, this one emanating from the very territory he resides in and rules. Does this sound like the Palestinians are ready to live in peace in the family of nations? Not to me either.

Ryan Collins well Ryan 12year olds were a good little targets weren't they and fyi 60 died and upto 2000 injured and from that 2000 upto 1200 were handicapped because Israeli snipers aimed directly at their knees and even at their genitals just for some entertainment. And Boaz if 40000 people went to the fence with the intention of just breaching the fence, then it would already be breached and thousands of Israelis dead but it didn't happen that way because if the Palestinians had any intention of killing israelis why there is not even a single casualty on the Israeli side but on the Palestinian side there are 60 dead 2000 injured 1200 handicapped. It was largely a Palestinian civilian population protesting there for their rights and their land against their oppressors. And Hamas wasn't even present at the demonstrations. What kind of an idiot would justify this. There is no moral or logical reasoning for this kind of an action. And Israel never existed before 1948 and if you want to talk about 2500 years before 1948 then I would gladly give you a history lesson. Before the Jews wandered on this land, there were already a bunch of people living there, these people were called the Philistines. That is where the name Palestine comes from, from the people who lived there before the Jews made it to that land, surprising isn't it. Israel only existed for 40 to 44 years, that's it. After that it was conquered by a different bunch of people, then reconquered by the Jews and after that conquered by the greeks and then by the Romans and so on. Leading to the question here, there is no legitimacy to Israel, half of them are white European immigrants who don't even match the demographic of that region. This is total injustice to the Palestinians who had their ancestral homes dating back centuries ripped away from them by these zionists who occupied their land.

Don't you just love a driveller? A little like the nasty little man doing the interviewing. Not checking out the facts :::: As usual for the old Lefties / Commies and Democrats. Which of the crimes of Hamas do you think we should start talking about? 1. Is it the Abuse of women & Child Marriages? 2. Is it the selling of Slaves 3. The sale child the sale of children as workers in many fields. 4. killing of anyone that questions the leadership. 5. The burning of people in public for being of a differing gender 6. The one that many seem to love is the cutting off of peoples heads - Oh; Must not forget the stoning of women that decided to remove their will acceptance of head covering gear. 7. The one where The BILLIONS of Pounds & Dollars that gone to this Hamas place for many years. Wasted of training and bombing and killing others. There is a much longer list. Happily send you it if you like..

Mat, that is an absolutely ridiculous allegation. Even if you believe that the territories captured in the 1967 war should be given back, the area directly outside Gaza that the terrorists were trying to break into is still within the '67 borders, and therefore not "occupied" by anyone's definition. Finally, by 'aparthied', do you mean the 42% of all nursing students in Israel who were Arabs in 2017 or all the Arabs serving in the highest parts of Israeli government?: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Arab_members_of_the_Knesset

That’s no mystery. This week, The Times published an op-ed by Ahmed Abu Artema, one of the organizers of the march. “We are intent on continuing our struggle until Israel recognizes our right to return to our homes and land from which we were expelled,” he writes, referring to homes and land within Israel’s original borders. His objection isn’t to the “occupation” as usually defined by Western liberals, namely Israel’s acquisition of territories following the 1967 Six Day War. It’s to the existence of Israel itself. Sympathize with him all you like, but at least notice that his politics demand the elimination of the Jewish state. Notice, also, the old pattern at work: Avow and pursue Israel’s destruction, then plead for pity and aid when your plans lead to ruin. The world now demands that Jerusalem account for every bullet fired at the demonstrators, without offering a single practical alternative for dealing with the crisis. But where is the outrage that Hamas kept urging Palestinians to move toward the fence, having been amply forewarned by Israel of the mortal risk? Or that protest organizers encouraged women to lead the charges on the fence because, as The Times’s Declan Walsh reported, “Israeli soldiers might be less likely to fire on women”? Or that Palestinian children as young as 7 were dispatched to try to breach the fence? Or that the protests ended after Israel warned Hamas’s leaders, whose preferred hide-outs include Gaza’s hospital, that their own lives were at risk?

what is happening today is not an aberration. This is what Zionism has always entailed and what it will always entail. “Colonialism is not a thinking machine, nor a body endowed with reasoning faculties,” Frantz Fanon once pointed out. “It is violence in its natural state.” It is not possible for a settler-colonial regime to racially enable one people at the expense of another people without the use of violence. As Arnon Sofer himself admits, the maintenance of a “Zionist-Jewish state with an overwhelming majority of Jews” requires permanent institutionalized violence. That was already true in 1948 and it remains true today and it will remain true until this project of racial exclusivism and privilege is abandoned once and for all for the hideous anachronism that it is.

"How can you held an independent investigation in an authoritarian theocratic regime?" Well, I think there are many international organizations specialized in that matter who can send inspectors on the ground (not Hamas inspectors, people coming from United Nation's member states). If you don't want to talk to Hamas, fine. But you can't presume that international inspectors can't be allowed to go there without even trying and by blocking access to Gaza. If you let them in and they are shot by Hamas, well, your point will be understood. But right now, the Israeli government is the only beligerant in the conflict who is an obstacle to any kind of independent investigation about what's going on. As for the chirurgical intervention of the Israeli army, we can clearly see it through images given by freelance journalists on the ground : we can see how chirurgical the Israeli snipers are to target the brain of young protesters throwing "deadly rocks as lethal as Tsahal's M16s".

So on this whole thing, of course it is more complicated than most like to make out, but I am highly suspicious of this idea that the IDF had no option to have avoided injuring over 2,000 people and killing 55. Surely it could be recognised that these people obviously knew they couldn't really do anything in charging towards the fence against assault rifles. Hamas are awful, and are genuinely a threat to Israel but I feel the IDF defending will be quite difficult in this instance.

theological and autocracy! I find that bizarre coming from a jew whos "state of Israel" is entirely based on some Biblical stories! And I also find that strange coming from a jew questioning freedom of expression while any jew dare to speak against his government is quickly shunned and labeled as fifth column and traitor!

When approaching the ethical question of how one should determine threat level for deductive measures of justifiable self-defense, the same model can be applied to a household being stormed by a street - gang, a Cabinet-member being threatened by a lynch-mob, a Conservative Guest-Speaker being attacked by a group of ANTIFA Activists at Berkeley or the University of Irving, or a rush by Gazans on Israel`s Border-Fence: The level of lethal threat to the victims involved would be commensurate with the size of the lynch-mob, their weaponry, and the intensity of their veracity. Lethality also correlates positively with the restraining effect placed on Law-Enforcement, since "rules of engagement" have been designed by the Fanatical Left to restrain Caretakers with the fear of a prolonged ethical arbitration process. www.briantrappler.com/attack-by-the-resistance-movement-how-the-mainstream-media-and-government-institutions-have-coddled-anarchy-by-the-radical-left/
