Put people in the bedrooms?! In my area everyone is renting and sharing homes. A single room for rent is 1,500-1.800 shared kitchen and shared bathroom! It is a major affordability issues for service people ! And we still have housing shortages. It is a price gauging issue and also regulatory issue. They are only allowing to build massive homes instead of efforts or homes. Which squeeze out the service people and the billionaires are pushing out the millionaires. A 2 bedroom Family home hit record 7.6 million average in my area. 🤦‍♀️

Yes. It's getting bad! We should have housing audits and make sure everyone has a home! If the home is too big then we can make other families move in with the housing owner!

You live in a crazy rich area then because most places are still in the 6 figure range for a 2 bedroom. Also, he's not seriously suggesting that everyone live in people's empty bedrooms. He's saying that our homes aren't used for housing as many people any more. Higher occupancy housing and mixed-use zoning are bith examples of things that could alleviate this.

Do you want some stranger near your kid, inside your house? The idea of all space being the same is ingenuine. If people could buy smaller 1 bedrooms, they would. But they don't build them.

The worries of a friend of mine said when I recommended his company that there were a lot of rules imposed on just renting a room from a house that may not have ample parking and to agree on common used parts of the house. Indeed, there is this cultural attitude to make this a societal norm...

Andrew I think you would benefit greatly by having Chuck Marohn on the podcast. Chuck runs a non profit called strong towns which focuses on building a bottom up revolution. He is releasing a book called Escaping the Housing Trap and it is well worth looking into. Chuck is laser focused on fixing the common sense problems we have in society and not on partisanship. You and Chuck both have a lot in common and he would blow your mind with the work he’s done. Thank you for working hard to create a better future for all of us.

To folks who won’t allow zoning to relax: 1) you’re super anti capitalist. 2) Dartmouth prof Charles whelan has a great term for it “dream hoarding” you got to a place you like and are making the government keep other people out. The worst part is that mostly capitalist policies are the best way to both get rich and solve housing issues. But people like the royal you who are creating very unhealthy parts of a the system - are convincing impressionable young folks to try to dismantle the entire system including the good parts.
