For those of you who don’t have a significant other from another country, you truly can’t understand what it’s like. I had a front row seat to it with my dad and my mom. My dad is from France but left his country for my mom in the USA and only saw his parents/family once a year during the summer. As my sister and I got older and became adults, he started going every 6 months as his parents got older and had more health issues and no, my mom did not always go with him and it was fine. They didn’t love each other less because of it. When my grandfather died last year, we all were at the funeral but it coincided with a longer trip my dad had originally planned before my grandfather’s health took a turn for the worse so my dad ended up staying for 6 whole weeks. My mom was still working and not yet retired so she only stayed a couple days for the funeral. It was the longest my parents had been apart since getting married and it was really hard for both (they’ve been married for over 40 years). Should Carlo and Sarah choose to have kids, their lives will be dictated by the school calendar just like it was for my parents and they will not be able to go to Italy as often. These are the kinds of sacrifices you make in international relationships.

Agree! My husband and I live in the USA. He was born in El Salvador and his mom/dad are over there. I was born in Mexico and My whole family is over there. Husband and I have to split our times for our family, sometimes we go together but most of the time we go alone. 🤷🏻‍♀️ people will NEVER understand unless they live similar situations with their significant other. 😢 holidays are hard all the way around, we cant be in 3 places at the same time specially 3 countries

@@marirenderos5829 What will help Sarah and Carlo is they're making a lot of money. That will be quite important. Especially these days when travel is a little easier. I can't imagine what this scenario was like for people 20+ years ago without all the communication devices we have now

I think I have a feeling I know who the emergency is about and why it as so important that you stayed behind, and I respect you so much for making the decision to stay behind. We have limited time on this earth, some things can’t wait for when it’s convenient for us. Sometimes we make sacrifices for the ones we love. One thing I know for certain is that you won’t ever regret staying behind for this person. You will always be grateful for this Christmas you had together. You and Carlo have plenty of holidays to come to make memories with. Losing someone so special who had a such a great impact on our lives and who helped shape who we are is never easy, there is no realistic way to adequately prepare for it. Hoping everything goes smoothly from here, whether you get more time together or have to say a final goodbye, I just hope it’s as peaceful as possible. You and your family are in my thoughts ♥️

My now ex booked a flight, failing to consider the severity of my claustrophobia. The bulkhead was low, it was a fairly small plane with few rows. The panic started as I was walking down the aisle to the seat. A stewardess spotted me and my now-ex told her it was my migraine (that made my face so red and me visibly uncomfortable). So she had the AC turned on immediately, pointed the vent at me and brought me soda. He grabbed the Valium my doctor prescribed. Until that Valium began to work, I had crazed thoughts of running for the door. He saw the look in my eyes (sheer panic, it turns out, is rather evident) and begged me to breathe, tried to distract me. Finally, the Valium worked and I exhaled. I relaxed. That's when I told him I'll be fine for the 3 hour flight. He said that he was happy I was doing better but, it was a 6 hour flight. He assumed I knew. Either you understand claustrophobia or you don't. I had to be sedated by an anesthesiologist for an MRI. Calling any MRI 'open' is a massive lie. I know it's not rational, that's what it's called a phobia. I can cope for a very short window of time, much shorter than a flight or an MRI. I'm not thrilled with tunnels. I also have a phobia involving heights. I'm terrified of being on bridges that are very high above water or are quite narrow (or both). I must be a joy as a travel partner. 🙄

I’m from the Cape but live in CA now. My Italian husband is from CAL. Spent many, many trips thru Sumner and now Ted Williams Tunnels. The big dig was a nightmare. The best one was after a visit with my family on the Cape, I was stuck in an accident in the tunnel for 4 hours and missed my flight getting home to my hubby and work the next day! I was hyperventilating!!!

I think it is awesome that Airport Intercom told you two not to cry! I hope you two didn't lose power or Cable and Wifi in those storms that hit your area the week before Christmas. I spent Christmas with my Sister and Brother in Law up there and the storm damage was crazy! And I hope your friend/family member is OK. Have a Merry Christmas and a good 2024!

Sarah, I'm so sorry to hear of the issue with your family member, I hope it wasnt your Nana and if so, whoever it was, I hope all is well with them now. Im so very happy You and Carlo got to be back together soon after his friends wedding. From the highway pictures its all so familiar, I raised my children south of Boston, in a town not far from Quincy. I use drive that highway all the time to visit my Grandmother in Somerville.

And the bridges that go over really large bodies of water that have the slits in the road so that water can drain off. I made the mistake of looking out the window while driving over one in Tampa. It made my stomach drop and the sheer uneasiness I felt was unsettling. It's hard to describe, but I don't do heights and also claustrophobic. So I'm with you on these issues.

WAHHHHH 😭😭Airports are crying factories. The first time I cried in an airport was at about 5 years old when my grandma left for Europe. I didn't understand that she would be back. Now, just driving up to the airport makes me choke up, if I'm dropping someone off.
