WE GOT CHICKENS!| How we started a chicken coop the AFFORDABLE way!

We did it! We got chickens! We have talked about getting some since we moved to our new home. We really tried to start this new hobby as cost effective as we possibly could! We found some great deals and hubby was SO CREATIVE on how we made our chicken coop!

super fun! We had chickens for 5 years as a hobby and my husband built me two coops from scratch because we moved after two years. I would suggest replacing the chicken wire (aka decoration wire) with hardwire cloth because hank and any other animal really will be able to tear through it. And ideally you should skirt it out under ground to keep anything from climbing in. We live in a place where we have fox, opossum, raccoon, dogs, deer and other animals that make it into back yards even though we live in a neighborhood. And we only had one issue with opossums getting in because we were a little lazy with the skirt and had to redo it the proper way dig down and with hardwire cloth not the leftover rabbit fencing we used. Enjoy the chickens, they are so fun and have personalities of their own.

I’m so excited for your chicken journey! My only suggestion would be that chicken wire is used to keep chickens in, not to keep predators out. Raccoons can easily tear through chicken wire. Replacing the chicken wire with hardware cloth with keep your new feathered friends safe!

Chicken wire will not keep predators out - it’s to keep your chickens in. I’d certainly upgrade. Good luck!

It’s better for their feet to use small tree branch
