WE FOUND OUR STOLEN TRAILER VLOG

Car Dealer VLOG #2
My trailer was stolen the morning of Christmas eve. On January 10th, my brother decided to go through some neighborhoods near the place it was taken, and saw it. We called the police and took it home.

Found a friends stolen sailboat many yrs ago. The thief had parked it behind a locked gate in his back yard. Called the police. They were there in like 2min and couldn’t believe their luck. Apparently they had suspected the guy was stealing stuff from area residents for over a yr. The SWAT team needed some training hours or something like that so they told my buddy to wait for a bit and his boat would ready for pickup. SWAT arrived it looked like a damn military take over the guy answered his front door and pretty sure they hosed his shorts out before putting him in the wagon for the ride to jail. Was pretty cool. Took the boat home right then and there. It was missing 2 days, only went .5 mile from the theft location.

No more than 6-7 miles from our home (as the crow flies) I’m so happy that you found your trailer and it was still in great shape. You are one of the few lucky people ever see their stolen property. My brother in-law lives just a mile from our house. A very nice and clean looking neighborhood. A Washington State Trooper lives 2 houses down from them. Security cameras are absolutely EVERYWHERE. Not to mention that all their neighbors are soooo nosy. A couple months ago his trailer was stolen , right in front of his house. He had a ball hitch, insert lock, in place. He even had chains looped thru and around the trailers tongue jack. In fact he had lowered the tongue as far as it would go, prior to locking down the tongue jack. With all of those precautions and the cameras, not to mention the nosy neighbors, my brother in-law still had his almost new trailer stolen. No one saw anything. No one heard anything. No cameras captured the fifth of the trailer. All except for one camera that captured only the trailer. The trailer was only seen from the rear part of the trailer hitch to the rear of the trailer. Now if that isn’t screwed up enough, less than a month later, while my brother in-law had his recently purchased Ford Ranger up at a friend’s automotive shop discussing the trucks mechanical future. The pickup truck was parked no further than 10-12 feet from the small offices door. My brother in-law was just inside of the office with his friend/mechanic. The two of them were in the office not more than 15 minutes and wouldn’t you know it, some son-of-a-bitch was able to hot wire the truck. My brother in-law actually had the keys in his pocket. Well, for me it would depend on how long it had been since it got stolen. If the trailer was stolen a year ago, it could have sold a few times, and the person who had it a year later may think they paid for it legitimately. So because of that, I would let the cops do all the leg work and find out which way the dice had rolled.

I had the same thing happen. The dirt bag that did it was only 3 miles from me. A guy fenced stuff for him and found it on craigslist repainted n different wheels. But the the neck and tongue were custom fabricated by me so it was impossible for him to hide or know. Posed as buyer and confronted the guy who got suspicious right before meeting. He tried to hide it by having buddy take it 30 miles away. Tracked him to his work n confronted there. I told him if he gave it back I won't involve police or file charges. He tried to deny it told me I couldn't prove it. I told him if it's not returned right now life is going to become a very painful experience for him and I wasnt leaving. Got police involved but had to motivate them. At first they didn't want to do anything said I couldn't prove enough, but I did after much arguing I got a cop that was sharp. I got it back within the hour. Luckily I anticipated a dirt bag thief and had secret numbers stamped all over it. Paperwork and photographs. Cops broke up a big theft ring all the info led them to it. Always stamp hidden I'd numbers and include your DL number too.

@@Anthony-bt2vo glad to help. I learned the hard way. I used to rent trailers many years ago. They would go to great lengths to change appearance after stealing one. Try to locate identifier numbers in as many hidden spaces as you can. On the underside, on spring shackles. Put a little schmutz over the hidden ones. That way if you need to reveal you only need a small brass brush and rag. There gonna grind off the obvious one up top. Use a drill or cut inconspicuous notches where they are easy to see but look like they dont mean anything. The reason because if you suspect a trailer is yours you might only have seconds to glance to identify. Those marks will stand out like a sore thumb and give you reason to look for your hidden numbers to prove it's yours. If u have expensive wheels mark the backside rim. Oh. And if it's real bad where you at you might want to get a hidden GPS locator. Take care. Mac

Back in my college days, we had a dude down the street steal our boat and trailer, it was less than 2 miles from our place, behind a mobile home, we just happened to see it driving around. We waited until dark, moved the boat and trailer by hand to the street, then towed it to buddy’s place that had a garage. The next night we went back to the place of the guy that stole it. He’d used a newer Ford Ranger to get the boat, unfortunately for him, he left it unlocked. We put half a tube of valve grinding compound in the crankcase, then loosened the front wheels’ lugnuts where they were all barely hand tight. Drove by there a few times over the next month, never saw the truck again. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes...

Real clever until he is driving down the road and a wheel falls off, he looses control and kills himself or kills a family in another car. Then go on KZread and brag about it. You’re as dumb as the thief you knuckle head. If you didn’t have the balls to confront the thief or he wasn’t around then slashing four tyres is easy for you and expensive for him. And he gets the message loud and clear especially if you wait until he gets four more tyres and you slash those as well.

I really doubt that he made it out of his driveway, when I say loose, I mean we were thinking the truck was going to fall over sitting still. Also, the valve grinding compound we used was some really rough stuff, if the engine ran a total of 5 minutes I’d be surprised.

I felt like I lost my right arm that day I went to go pick it up, police didnt givea damn, if they hear something they'll let me know. Gee.....thanks! Still to this day my neck snaps every time I see a car trailer wherever. I feel I'll see it again someday, that damn trailer and I put on alot of miles together, like you, I'll know it when i see it no matter what they do to it, no doubts! Be happy you got yours back!!!!👍

I got a call from the police telling me they found the bus and it was my responsibility to move it. VIN number on a STICKER?? Number stamps. Put your DLN on the trailer in 3 or 4 different spots. If you weld your numbers on a structural member with a mig, they can't get the numbers fully removed without grinding deeper into the structure. Sticker VIN is begging for trouble in a case like this. I had to pay $500 for tip to find my trailer and luckily some of my transmission parts were still on it when recovered. Took a couple years,,, that guy got what he deserved later. And I never lifted a finger. People like that sow seeds that karma pays back in spades. Guy I paid $500 to was in dutch for child support so I paid the court and gave him the receipt. It sucked, but there was good accomplished. If my own Brother extorted me for $500, I would pay the money and be relieved to have learned his calibre for such a low price. Someone like that will cost you so much more later in life, they're not worth having around. Loyalty, honesty and brutal fierceness in those qualities, are what you hope for in family and usually only find in true friends.

You're lucky to find it in just a couple of weeks, my utility trailer was stolen from my back yard while we were camping, Just by chance, my buddy and I stopped in at a truckstop on the 401 highway and he pointed out a trailer that was parked and hooked up on the back of a 4x4 Ford truck in the lot. "Does that trailer look familiar ?" he said, I looked, and sure enough, same style as the one that was stolen from me 2 years ago. It had different wheels, the rails were missing and a different paint job but the same trailer (I know, because I built it) I had gotten it licensed at the DMV as a home made trailer and they issued me a file number for the trailer. I had stamped the file number in 3 different locations, one location was the rails which were now gone but still had the numbers on both under-sides of the frame and axle. I still had the title in my truck so I had gotten it out as well as my cellphone and called the police. 2 hours later I brought it back home..... (I'm still looking for my lawn tractor that was on it though)

In it was my Indian motorcycle, and a full motorcycle shop, handi lift, tool boxes, welders, as well as riding gear and some other stuff. Bike insurance paid for the bike, home owners paid for the rest. The only thing not covered was my ten thousand dollar trailer since it wasn't on my property, so no homeowners and it wasn't hooked to my truck so no auto insurance. I wrote it off, got another bike and then months later the sheriff called. They had my trailer. It was empty but it was in one piece. Sweet. I still have it.

A few guys and myself privately had a little conversation about what would happen later after weigh in unless those six rods and reels ended up magically back in my boat. Surprise. I kept my word. Never layed a hand on him. But all the other guys in the harbor that have had stuff stolen somehow caught wind of the situation 😉 and it didn't go so well for him.
